— Why do we use drives? In a word, control Benefits of control

Speed

Demand increase

The needs of many modern systems vary. This can be because of – Demand

Best efficiency

– Energy reduction Let’s look at an example using a pump. By controlling the speed of the motor and therefore the pump we can effectively and efficiently control the flow, level, or pressure of the system. Using this type of control removes the need for throttling using valves or bypass systems that are inefficient.

3. Specify the motor ...

4. Specify the frequency converter

— Dimensioning Various methods/tools to dimension a drive: - Drive Size (011 DriveSize Basic & 321 DriveSize Essential - Catalog – sizing must be done using the motor current and load - Drive Hardware manual – more information than in the catalog. Make sure the HW manual match the drive product version - existing drive (in case of replacements)

• •

For catalog sizing, load type is very important. Pay attention to maximum current and network voltage. Make sure the overload limitation are considered and also derating factors

Safe configuration for unpowered drives

Assistant panel, ACS-AP-S

Blank panel with RJ45 connector, RDUM-01

Set up the drive using the assistant control panel delivered as standard. With primary settings, there is no need to know any drive parameters and help button clarifies unclear situations.

The RDUM-01 panel is used in the cabinet installations for connecting the assistant control panel, basic control panel, or Bluetooth control panel mounted on the cabinet door to the drive via the RJ-45 cable.

The CCA-01 cold configuration adapter provides a serial communication interface for unpowered ACS480 drives. With the adapter, safe isolation of both serial communication and control board power supply is possible.

Bluetooth control panel, ACS-AP-W

Control panel mounting platform, DPMP-01

PC tools

The optional Bluetooth panel enables connection with the Drivetune mobile app. Together with the Drivetune app and the Bluetooth panel users can, e.g. commission and monitor the drive remotely.

This mounting platform is for flush mountings. It requires also a RDUM-01 (blank control panel with the RJ-45 connector) and a control panel (assistant, basic, Bluetooth or industrial).

Basic control panel, ACS-BP-S The icon based control panel supports users with basic operations, settings and fault tracking when nothing extra is needed.

Control panel mounting platform, DPMP-02 This mounting platform is for surface mountings. It requires also a RDUM-01.

Industrial control panel, ACS-AP-I

Door mounting kit, DPMP-EXT2

The industrial control panel is compatible with all ABB drives, thus making it simple to use a single panel with different products.

The door mounting kit is ideal for cabinet installations. A kit for one drive includes one DPMP02 and one RDUM-01. If another control panel than the assistant panel is wanted to be connected on the cabinet door, it needs to be ordered separately.

The Drive composer PC tool offers fast and harmonized setup, commissioning and monitoring for all-compatible drives.

Fieldbus adapter modules The ACS480 general purpose drives are compatible with all major fieldbus protocols. The drive comes with Modbus RTU fieldbus interface as standard.

Remote monitoring With a built-in web server and stand-alone datalogger NETA-21 module enables worldwide and secure access to drives.

— Optional I/O options to further extend standard connections ACS580 I/O extensions and adapter ACS580 can be equipped with additional option modules CMOD-01

CMOD-02

– 24 VDC/AC input to keep control unit powered

– 24 VDC/AC input to keep control unit powered

— Drives Application Macro Control macros are sets of default parameter values suitable for a certain control configuration. When starting up the drive, the user typically selects the best-suited control macro as a starting point, then makes any necessary changes to tailor the settings to their purpose. This usually results in a much lower number of user edits compared to the traditional way of programming a drive. Control macros can be selected in the Primary settings menu: Menu – Primary settings - Macro or with parameter 96.04 Macro select
