Problem An OPC service error occurs when opening a FactoryTalk View Studio application: An error occurs when trying to open an existing or new FactoryTalk View Studio application. The same error occurs when trying to start RSLinx Enterprise from Services: RSLinxNG OPC runtime service has encountered a problem and needs to close The following error messages have also been observed: An Internal error has occurred, you must close RSView and stop RSLinx Enterprise before continuing. Failed to find topology node.

An Internal error has occurred, you must close FactoryTalk View and stop FactoryTalk Linx before continuing. Failed to initialize component manager.

Environment FactoryTalk View ME FactoryTalk View SE FactoryTalk Linx (FactoryTalk Linx is seen in versions 6.0 and higher) RSLinx Enterprise

Solution 1 Close FactoryTalk View Studio and restart the RSLinx Enterprise (FactoryTalk Linx v6.00 and higher) service (or reboot the PC). Additionally, ensure that the RSLinx Enterprise (FactoryTalk Linx v6.00 and higher) service is not set to Disabled in Windows services.

Solution 2 Follow the steps in the sections below to replace the RSLinxNG.xml file. Note: For an automated batch file for Windows 2000 or Windows XP, see 33688 - RSLinx Enterprise error: Failed to find the topology node.

For Windows 7, 2008, and 10 (64 bit) 1. Delete the file RSLinxNG.xml from C:\ProgramData\Rockwell\RSLinx Enterprise\RSLinxNG.xml 2. Copy the file DefaultTemplate.xml from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSLinx Enterprise 3. Paste the file to: C:\ProgramData\Rockwell\RSLinx Enterprise\ 4. Rename the file from DefaultTemplate.xml to RSLinxNG.xml. 5. Reboot the computer. Note: If FactoryTalk Linx 6.10 or higher is installed, also replace RSLinxNG02.xml with DefaultTemplate02.xml using the same procedure.

For Windows 7, 2008, and 10 (32 bit) 1. Delete the file RSLinxNG.xml from C:\ProgramData\Rockwell\RSLinx Enterprise\RSLinxNG.xml 2. Copy the file DefaultTemplate.xml from: C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSLinx Enterprise 3. Paste the file to: C:\ProgramData\Rockwell\RSLinx Enterprise\ 4. Note: If FactoryTalk Linx 6.10 or higher is installed, also replace RSLinxNG02.xml with DefaultTemplate02.xml using the same procedure.

For Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 1. Delete the file RSLinxNG.xml from: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rockwell\RSLinx Enterprise\RSLinxNG.xml 2. Copy the file DefaultTemplate.xml from: C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSLinx Enterprise 3. Paste the file to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rockwell\RSLinx Enterprise\ 4. Rename the file from DefaultTemplate.xml to RSLinxNG.xml. 5. Reboot the computer.

Alternative Method to Default RSLinx Enterprise Configuration, for FactoryTalk View ME 1. Exit FactoryTalk View Machine Edition and launch ME Station Runtime:  Click on Start > All Programs > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk View > FactoryTalk View ME Station If ME Station is not in your Start menu, launch it from here: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise\MERuntime.exe Windows 7/8/10 32-bit:  C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise\MERuntime.exe 2. Click on Terminal Settings

3. Select Networks and Communications then click Enter

4. Select RSLinx Enterprise Communications then click Enter

5. Click the Restore Default button

7. The RSLinx Enterprise Configuration will result in a default state.

 

8. Click Close on each screen to return to the main configuration screen then click Exit and reboot the computer.
