OBJECTIVES We students taking Additional Mathematics are required to carry out a project work while we are in Form 5. This year the Curriculum Development Division, Ministry of Education has prepared two tasks for us. We are to choose and complete only ONE task based on our area of interest. This project can be done in groups or individually, but each of us is expected to submit an individually written report. Upon completion of the Additional Mathematics Project Work, we are to gain valuable experiences and able to:  Apply and adapt a variety of problem solving strategies to solve routine and non-routineproblems;  Experience classroom environments which are challenging, interesting and meaningful and hence improve their thinking skills.  Experience classroom environments where knowledge and skills are applied in meaningful ways in solving real-life problems  Experience classroom environments where expressing ones mathematical thinking reasoning and communication are highly encouraged and expected  Experience classroom environments that stimulate and enhance effective learning.  Acquire effective mathematical communication through oral and writing and to use the language of mathematics to express mathematical ideas correctly and precisely  Enhance acquisition of mathematical knowledge and skills through problem-solving in ways that increase interest and confidence  Prepare ourselves for the demand of our future undertakings and in workplace  Realise that mathematics is an important and powerful tool in solving real-life problems and hence develop positive attitude towards mathematics.  Train ourselves not only to be independent learners but also to collaborate, to cooperate, and to share knowledge in an engaging and healthy environment  Use technology especially the ICT appropriately and effectively

 Train ourselves to appreciate the intrinsic values of mathematics and to become more creative and innovative  Realize the importance and the beauty of mathematics

FOREWARD First of all, I would like to say thank you for giving me the strength and health to do this project work. Not forgotten my parents for providing everything, such as money, to buy anything that are related to this project work and their advice, which is the most needed for this project. Internet, books, computers, and etc. They also supported me and encouraged me to complete this task so that I will not procrastinate in doing it. Then I would like to thank my teacher, Cikgu Durani for guiding me and my friends throughout this project. We had some difficulties in doing this task, but she taught us patiently until we knew what to do. She tried and tried to teach us until we understand what we supposed to do with the project work. Last but not least, my friends who were doing this project with me and sharing our ideas. They were helpful that when we combined and discussed together, we had this task done.

INTRODUCTION Important of saving You may be asking yourself why is there so much pressure to save money. If you  have enough to pay for everything you need, why should you worry about putting any  aside each month? There are a variety of reasons to begin saving money. Different people save for different reasons. It makes saving easier if you have a clear goal or purpose for  the money you are saving. Here are seven reasons that you may consider saving your  money.             It is important to have an emergency fund set aside to cover unexpected expenses.  This could cover an unexpected car repair, your emergency appendectomy or a sudden  job loss. Ideally your emergency fund should be about three to six months of your  expenses. If you are just starting out you should put aside at least $1000.00 for this. In  addition to your emergency fund you need to make sure you have a plan and good  insurance in place to help you survive the unexpected financial events in your life. Once  you are out of debt, you should work on bringing your emergency fund up to between six  to twelve months of your income. If you are single or living on just one income, you may want to go with a larger emergency fund.             Another important reason to save money is your retirement. The sooner you start  saving for retirement, the less you will have to save in the future. You can put your  money to work for you. As you continue to contribute overtime you will be earning more  interest on the money you have, then you put in each month. You should at least be  contributing up to your employer's match and eventually you will want to contribute ten  to fifteen percent of your gross income.        A third reason to save money is for a down payment on a house. Your negotiating  power goes a lot farther when you have a significant down payment towards your home.  You will receive better interest rates, and be able to afford a bigger home. You can  determine how much you save towards this each month depending on your  circumstances. A down payment will help you move into a better neighborhood and  make it easier to buy your dream home. You will be amazed at how much money you can

free up in your budget if you do not always have a car payment. You can also negotiate  the price of the car much lower if you are willing to pay cash at the dealership. Living  without a car payment can make a huge difference in your monthly budget.

How to Encourage a Friend Who Needs Help Saving  Money Talk About What Has Worked for You On your savings journey, you’ve probably tried many different techniques and hacks to  boost your savings account. You can shorten your friend’s learning curve by having a  frank discussion about what worked for you. For example, you might say, “I tried really  hard to save money after all the bills were paid, but I still seemed to end up without  anything to save at the end of the month. When I switched to automatic savings transfers, I was able to see steady increases every two weeks.” Some people love Dave Ramsey, others love Suze Orman. Tell what worked for you and  give another option they might want to check out. Personally, a version of Dave  Ramsey’s plan worked for us when we were in debt. His snowball method of getting out  of debt was really a game changer. Be Upfront About Money and Saving Appreciate your friend’s honesty and willingness to ask for help—it’s not easy to talk  about money when you feel like you’ve failed! Be upfront about finances when the topic  comes up. If a mutual friend suggests dinner at a swanky restaurant, say, “I’m actually  saving for a new washer/car down payment/emergency fund. Could we eat somewhere  more casual?” If your friend doesn’t feel like they have to mask their issues by  pretending to have more money than they really have, it may encourage them in their  savings journey. Live By Example

I really think the most important way to influence others is to “live the lifestyle”. If you  are thriving ANS saving money your friends are going to want to know what has changed in you. They will start asking questions and it will give you the opportunity to share with  them! A solid emergency fund and progress toward a financial goal can make anyone feel great. Help your friends enjoy the same peace of mind that you have from being frugal! Use  these tips to preserve your friendship, encourage your friend’s trust in you, and get them  on the path to financial success.

Percentage of saving,Form 5 students %=weekly saving Weekly income =960

x100%

1320 =72.72% Reason of difference in saving  Form 5 students tend to spent more money in their daily activities than form 4 students .  Form 5 students only save about 72.72% of their saving, this might because they need to attend more tuition classes for preparing their SPM exam.  Some Form 5 students had already get their driving license, and need to fill up oil for driving .  Form 5 students have more meeting and gatering than form 4 students, they often spent money at café or restaurant .  Form 4 students are more discipline in spent money

SECTION 2 a) i)Total saving when their child reach 18 years old a = 12x20 =240 d = 20+15 =35 S18 = 18 (2(240) +(17)(180)) 2

=31860 ii)The toatal saving was not enough as they have only collected RM31860 It still have RM8140 Havent collected.

The parents should fixed the child’monthly saving at more 5 ringgit to achieve the target of RM40000 when the children reach 18 years old.

b)i)Total amount of money attained in the bank when their child reach 24 years old. T7=31860(1.033)^6 =38712.19

Thus the total saving once the child reach 24 years old is RM38712.19

ii) RM40000 x 1.09 =RM43600 RM43600-RN38712.19=RM4887.81 The saving is not enough to paid the bill. The fund is less about RM4887.81 to paid the bill ,the couple still need to borrow or add on some money about RM4887.81 to paid the bill

D) Composite index for equipment shows a larger value than transportation cost .I t shows the equipment weightage is larger and it mean the equipment is more important in their daily bases. The index number od an item representing collectively the indices of all components that constitute the item is know as the composite index

(i)

Calculate the composite index for the year 2018 based on the year 2016 for the estimated cost of the camp.

(ii) Hence, calculate the total estimated expenditure of this camp for the year 2018 if the total estimated expenditure of the camp in the year 2016 was RM 2500.

e)i) P18 for transportation coast =38.74 x 1.05 =40.678 17

COMPOSITE INDEX =122.48(2)+40.678(3)+127.2(4)+75(1) 10 =95.079

ii)P18 =(RM2500 X 95.079)÷100 =RM2376.97

FURTHER EXPLORATION Due to lack of funds by the organiser, you have to raise funds for the camp which will be held in2018. Using a suitable mind map, explain how you would obtain these funds to organize the camp in 2018.

Way to organise a camp First how to organise a camp , free time or a camp is the highlight of the year for lots of groups. This is a few days or 2-3 weeks of experiencing something and doing something together with people of a similar age in a group and without any parents. Planning such an event and seeing it through is a challenge for each group leader. It is not the problem that we have to take time and holidays and give up our own personal holiday for the group, but that there are many things to plan and prepare. The growing together of a group and the finding of each other works better in a camp. They are together as a group for several days. No-one can run

away. Your role model, your social behaviour, your life, your readiness to experience something with the group members, your endurance and your learning is observed. Doing things together pushes people together and forms bonds. Noone is simply a visitor for 90 minutes and then runs off again, this has much more meaning. The camp does not take place at home in the normal surroundings. The youths must get used to a new situation, do without their daily shower, and maybe sleep in a place which is more uncomfortable than a soft bed. Independence, social behaviour, helping out and dealing with disagreements might be totally new experiences for some kids.    Finalize the area like no. of societies or pockets/blocks to be covered.  Look for the community hall or any covered space in that area or any central location where visibility is high or people visit more frequently.  Take the required permission from the concerned person (secretary/President), for any Saturday or Sunday. If there are any specific timings, please note that as well.  If there is no shaded place (tree etc.) or community hall is not available, we can arrange a small canopy with a table & two chairs from the nearby tent house. You would still need to take permission from the concerned Resident Association.  Involve the RWA of that area in dissemination the information to residents through pamphlets or take the help of the local newspaper vendor for distribution.  Inform nearby volunteers in advance who can take care of publicity through putting up posters, banners etc., at market place, near a Mother Dairy, on the notice board of the colony at least a week before. We can also spread the awareness through word of mouth or doing door-to-door campaigning one or two days before the camp.  Look for the cable TV network to publicize about the camp at least two/three days before (in most cases they don’t charge for this cause )  Also try to involve Ladies Club, Mahila Samities to create awareness about the camp.  We must try to distribute the pamphlets 2-3 days in advance so that people can get enough time to take out the material.  PLEASE DO NOT INVOLVE – Any political outfit for organising camps. They come on individual basis and donate material as other

people are doing. BUT – there should not be any case where these organisations claim – ” we are doing it with GOONJ….”  Maintain database of people who donate material. This helps us in providing feedback to them. Be very cautious in writing e-mail ID’s as even a (.) matters.  All the communication material is given by GOONJ offices only, in case you want some changes do inform us.

Pack all your camping gear in big, sturdy plastic totes. At the end of the season I clean and repack all my gear and stash it in the tote. On the lid I stick a sandwich zip bag with a detailed list of all the contents written clearly on a card inside. I can see what's inside at a glance and I know it's clean and ready to go. This is a good way to ensure I don't forget anything, and if I want to go camping on impulse I just grab the tote, pick up my tent and go. Keep a Camping Log We start out by recording the time and mileage between our house and the campsite. I usually include a description and what we liked or disliked about the property and take a photograph so we remember the grounds. This helps when we decide to reserve our next camping trip! Store your Clothes I use stackable vegetable containers (with the front cutouts) for our clothes. Each person gets a container. They stack in the corner of the tent for easy retrieval of clothes. It comes with a top so you can use it as a night stand also.

Ways to obtain fund Numerous funding opportunities are available to support schools on their international journeys. The opportunities displayed on this page are primarily available for schools in the UK. Connecting Classrooms Professional Partnership visit grants Connecting Classrooms funds teachers and school leaders who have completed core skills training to visit colleagues at a partner school in another country and develop effective practice for teaching core skills together. Successful applicants get support with every stage of their international journey.

IN MALAYSIA THE FIRST STEP we need from you is a brief executive summary of your proposal and your funding requirements. We are not looking for a work of art, but enough information to give us a preliminary feel for the type of business, whether it is likely to be suitable for angel investors / corporate investor / venture capital / private equity / government financing scheme / grants / bank loans / IPO (initial public offering) or other alternative funding options. Your Executive Summary should include:  A brief description of your business, products or services;  An overview of the market and opportunity;  Your business model, why it can generate superior, sustainable returns;  Background of key managers/founders and shareholder;  Current status of your business: including investment made to date; sales achieve to date  Funding required – money you plan to raise and milestone/goals expected to achieve;  If equity financing, how much equity are you willing to allocate to the Investors for that funding amount;  Expected rate of return to Investors (ROI or IRR);  Investment risks and mitigating measures;  Exit potential;  Conclusion – why should invest in you / your business.

CONCLUSION After doing research, answering questions, drawing graphs and some problem solving, I saw that the usage of index number is important in daily life. It is not just widely used in markets but also in interpreting the condition of the surrounding like the air or the water. Especially in conducting a camping organisation survey . In conclusion, statistics is a daily life essecities. Without it, surveys can’t be conducted, the stock market can’t be interpret and many more. So, we should be thankful of the people who contribute in the idea of statistics.

REFLECTION While I was conducting the project, I have learnt and practice a lot of moral values. These are we should be patient when doing any work or project. This is to ensure our work is completed by the time. We also should be calm and cool down when any source that we are finding for is missing. This sign that we are going to get a conclusion soon. Furthermore, we should always smile when doing our works so that whatever work we are doing can be done easily. Besides that, we should relax and patient when our friends keep forcing us to finish the project so that they can refer to our project when we had done. This act will make us more motivated to complete the project.
