Most recent PM was terminated.

Job Description for the role of PM •Knowledge about production process and capabilities of equipment

•Expert in budgeting and planning •Labor management •Material procurement •Plant maintenance •Quality Control •Manpower Utilization •Consulting with engineering personnel

•Revision of production schedules because of unplanned stoppages. •Participating in union-management contract negotiations •Technical knowledge about the machinery •Human Resource Management

Assumptions 1.

We are looking for a project manager who can serve for long

term i.e. for at least 5-10 years. 2. Knowledge about Industry, budgeting and planning are the main criteria for the Interview 3. Retirement age is assumed to be 60 years.

Elimination From the job profile given we can eliminate the following candidates: 1) Tony Caciopo – Tony is too old to take up the job and also he has had health problems. Also, Tony is nearing his retirement age. 2) Jay Davis – He has been an assistant PM for 7 long years and hence not shown any progress. 3) Frank Hall –Again, Frank is eliminated on the basis of age. He is 58 years old and nearing retirement age. 4) Tom Doyle: As per the given information he has been declared an ineffective PM and hence eliminated for obvious reasons.

Conclusion From the previous table, we can conclude that George Martin can be chosen as the new PM for Pittsburgh Plant as he has scored highest among all other participants.

Justification John Martin has following attributes : 1)Martin is PM for one of the competitors of Dynamo for 6 years out of his 14 years service with the competitor and thus he has good amount of experience in project management.

3)Since Pittsburgh plant have been facing issues regarding lack of agreement and conflicts with Union a person with high conflict resolution character is required. Martin has been rated high in this attribute. 3) Although he has managed non union employees which works against him but

since his “interpersonal score” and “ability to handle stress” scores are highest among his competitors he can be vouched for the job. 4)Martin is just 44 years old and thus he can be seen as a long term PM for Pittsburgh as he is not too young to be called inexperienced neither too old .
