Injection Molding Introduction • You learn the basics of an injection molding machine. You will be able to identify the Sprue, Runners, Gates, and Parting Line of a mold. • You learn the basic principles of designing a plastic part in Catia V5. This includes determining the nominal wall thickness, incorporating undercuts or openings and adding draft. You also learn the importance of fillets. • You learn how to design your part with Catia V5.

Openings: An opening is created when the core and cavity, contacting tightly, prevent plastic from filling an area known as a shutoff. Then the moving platen pulls the part away, out of the cavity, clearing the opening. Once the mold separates, the part ejects normally.
