EVENING SHOW ‘Devdan: Treasure of the Archipelago’ is a captivating 90-minute performance that combines storytelling with Indonesian dance and stunning aerial acrobatics. It’s a perfect way to stay dry indoors while getting a glimpse of the vast array of culture that dots the Indonesian landscape. The performance begins with two children who stray from their tour group in Bali and stumble upon a treasure chest full of iconic objects from around the Indonesian archipelago. As they pick up each object, they are magically transported to the source and greeted warmly by the locals. The children are introduced to the traditional dances, music, day-to-day activities and legends that are specific to each region, from Bali to Java, Sumatra, – and rather emotional – opening score. It is advisable to take a porter. Guides will only carry a light daypack, so one or two porters are needed to carry your food and supplies.

For “Bali Belly”, Lomotil and Imodium eliminate symptoms, but not gastro-related infections. A fever along with symptoms requires doctor-prescribed antibiotics. Drink as much liquid as possible. Isotonic drinks under various brand names are widely available and are known to replenish body hydration and replace fluids. For discomfort, diarrhea and cramping, drink strong, hot tea; avoid fruits and spicy foods. Some day-biting mosquitoes carry dengue fever, but this is not a problem in tourist areas. Bali is non-malarial and prophylaxis is not required. Mosquito bites, cuts or abrasions easily become infected in the tropics. Treat them immediately. Drink only bottled or boiled water. Peel fruit before eating; avoid raw vegetables except at reputable restaurants. Ice in restaurants is safe. Protect yourself from the intense equatorial sun. Use high SPF sunblock and a hat. AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases are increasing in Indonesia. Local sex workers have multiple partners from around the world. They are not checked for sexually transmitted diseases.
