INTRODUCTION

The West Qurna-2 Mishrif Oil field area (including Well pads, Central Processing Facilities, Gas Treatment Facilities, Euphrates River Water Intake, Accommodation Operator Camp and Waste Management Complex) is located in Southern Iraq, near the Euphrates and Tigris confluence. The West Qurna -2 Project was originally divided into three phases:  Phase 1- Crude Oil Production Capacity of 150,000 BOPD plus 15%. In this phase, three (3) crude oil trains are in operation. No Gas Treatment Plant is provided.  Phase 2- Crude Oil Production Capacity of 400,000 BOPD plus 15%. In this phase, eight (8) crude oil trains in operation and one (1) train spare.  Phase 3- Crude Oil Production Capacity of 550,000 BOPD. In this phase, ten (10) crude oil trains will be in operation and one (1) train as spare. Each of the new Oil trains will be designed for a capacity of 50,000 BOPD+15% margin. At this stage of the project, WQ-2 Mishrif CPF Oil production has reached a capacity of 450,000 BOPD through (8+1) oil trains including the design margin. Phase 1 & 2 mentioned above are Completed. Phase-3 mentioned above to achieve 550KBOPD will be executed in future. COMPANY has decided to first maintain the 400KBOPD with the addition of new oil wells and water injection without CPF Expansion of additional oil trains. In order to maintain 400,000 BOPD plus the 15% design margin, COMPANY has decided to expand the well pads and gathering system. To maintain the target production, West Qurna 2 Oil Field, Mishrif Well Pads and Gathering System Expansion is envisaged. This Project includes development of new Well Pad 11/1A, gathering line together with various appurtenances and associated interface works. Eight (8) production wells were already drilled at Well Pad 11/1A and are ready for hook-up. In order to achieve the production early from Well Pad 11/1A and deliver to existing Gathering system, Well Pad 11/1A will be executed in two phases:  Phase-1 (Temporary Hook-Up) to facilitate oil production with minimum required FACILITIES via temporary power supply.  Phase 2 (Permanent): All other required FACILITIES to ensure the operation via permanent power supply. 1.2

This document covers the Earthing calculation for the new facilities in Well Pad #11/1A at WEST QURNA-2 (PHASE 2). 1.3

CALCULATION BASIS

Following are the basis for carrying out the earthing calculation:  The section of an earth conductor (Amm2) is as per Eq. 40 of IEEE Std. 80-2000 section – 11 (Refer Annexure C).  Ground resistance of the grid conductor (R1) is as per Eq. 54 of IEEE Std. 80-2000 section – 14 (Refer Annexure C).  Ground resistance of the rod bed (R2) is as per Eq. 55 of IEEE Std. 80-2000 section-14 (Refer Annexure C).  Mutual ground resistance (Rm) between the rod bed and grid conductor is as per Eq. 56 of IEEE Std. 80-2000 section–14 (Refer Annexure C).  Total system resistance (Rg) is as per Eq. 53 of IEEE Std. 80-2000 section-14 (Refer Annexure C).  PRELIMINARY GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION (Refer Annexure E) Assumption: the considered earth type for the Well pad 11/1A will be wet organic soil.  Soil resistivity value of 0.252 Ω m (Average Value) is considered in the calculation (Refer Annexure E).  Ground resistance requirement of 1 Ω is considered as per TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR EARTHING AND LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM (Doc no. 8015-0151-EPPM-12-880-EL-SP-00001).  Earth electrode size considered for calculation is 19mm diameter, 3m long as per TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR EARTHING AND LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM (Doc no. 8015-0151-EPPM-12-880-EL-SP-00001).  Grid Length considered for Well Pad #11/1A area is 316m (length) x 210m (width) as marked in the GENERAL PLOT PLANS FOR WELL PAD 11/1A attached in Annexure D.  Short circuit current of 28.83 KA is considered as per SHORT CIRCUIT CALCULATIONS (Doc no. 8015-0151-EPPM-12-800-EL-CC-20002).  The duration of Low voltage short circuit current is 0.7s. 5.

CONCLUSION

According to the calculation results (in the two Annexures A and B) and the COMPANY standard, the section of the earth grid conductors shall be 70 mm2. 8 nos. of earthing rods (19mm dia. & 3m long) with their inspection pits are required to be installed in Well pad 11/1A area.

1.0 Calculation of the section of grid conductors The principle adopted is to dimension the earth grid on the basis of the short circuit current fault value on the whole voltage levels HV/MV/LV. The size of the earth cable should be calculated based on the short circuit current. a) Fault Current The table below shows the different values of the fault currents deduced from the table existing in the SHORT CIRCUIT CALCULATIONS (Doc n. 8015-0151-EPPM-12-800-EL-CC-20002). According to the calculation results, the size of each branch is 42.792 mm2. According to the COMPANY standard, the minimum section to be used is 70 mm2. 2.0 CONCLUSION We will consider for all areas that the section cross for main earthing grid, realized by bare copper conductor, will be 70 mm². However, the redundant connection, from the electrical switchgears 6.6KV and 0.4KV to the main earthing grid, will be performed by insulated copper conductors 70 mm².
