Appointment canceled

Body Dear XXXXX, When making your appointment with the KU Writing Center, we noticed your course number was an AEC course lower than 100. Unfortunately, we only serve students in advanced AEC courses (>100). Fortunately, the AEC has provided you with an excellent tutoring resource, the Point. Alumni Email

Write with us, again

Dear KU Writing Center Alumni, You are no longer with us, but your legacy lives on. O.K., too corny (or maybe too morbid?), but I hope you get the point: Every graduating consultant and office assistant has contributed something to the KU Writing Center as it is today, and everyone who works here now is building the Writing Center of tomorrow. But you can continue to influence the trajectory of this organization by reconnecting with us! Twenty-eight of you have already done this by participating in the research project led by our Assistant Director, Moira Ozias. Through survey responses and interviews, you have let us know how working at the Writing Center contributed to your student experience at KU and beyond, as professionals and community members. Results of this alumni research project have already informed how we prepare new consultants and continue to educate the ones who continue working here as they contribute to their own and other writers learning in the Writing Center. Now there is another simple way you can give back: Send us information about you for our new website spotlight, Where Are

Answer to Formatting Questions

Dear XXXXX, Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, formatting for theses and dissertations is not something that falls under the domain of the KU Writing Center. However, KU Libraries has some great resources to help you with this. Please go to http://guides.lib.ku.edu/etd to find electronic resources and a list of formatting workshops at Lawrence and Edwards campuses as well as times for "format and submit open lab hours." Open hours and workshops are held regularly. Best wishes, (Your name here) KU Writing Center writing.ku.edu 785-864-2399

Becoming a Writing Consultant

Becoming a Writing Consultant

Dear, XXXXX. I am glad to hear you are interested in peer writing consulting. All of our consultants have experience with peer writing consulting before they are interviewed and hired at the KU Writing Center. While some come to KU with that experience, most do not. Students who do not have previous experience working in a writing center take a course called Teaching and Tutoring Writing (LA&S/ENGL 400). The course, now offered both Fall and Spring semesters, includes observations and an internship in the writing center. You can find out more about the class at http://www.writing.ku.edu/~writing/about/becoming_a_co
