The Role of Robotics in the Nursing Profession

We live in an era where robotics and automation has progressively penetrated the professional facets of society, more so in the medical field. Hospitals have adopted this concept of technology in surgical practices and nursing care to which professionals vouch for its functionality and convenience. With the emergence of this field, technological advancements spearheaded and completely modified nursing practice; AI’s or artificial intelligence gradually developed as well as software techs that revolutionized human endeavors, most especially in the healthcare industry. Over the years, robotics perdures its value in the field of healthcare as well as in society, considering that the execution of medical procedures has lower risks and far more accurate due to its systematically precise programming. It has been utilized for medical practices in progressive countries most especially in Japan to which they used as nursing-care aids that was designed to do repetitive tasks, transcribe and record vital medical data moreover decreasing the possibility of error. Nursing -care robotics are deemed advantageous according to the statistics shown by the American Nurses Association in 2013 to which discussed its capabilities in rendering low invasive procedures, efficiency in diagnosis, assist in administering care and treatment for clients and perform functions constantly with little to no pause. Although it is perceived to be beneficial, it could only do so much together with its own limitations. Unlike actual nurses, AI’s or the robotics does not have the ability to respond to the emotional necessities of the client and would hardly rely on inputs that has been objectively programmed in their algorithm; rapport will not be established. The masses viewpoints diverge, most especially healthcare providers. The technology brought by robotics could indeed function and engage with clients with reliability and precision but solely through predefined instructions. Nevertheless, being dynamic should be initiated and observed in order for the healthcare industry to progress, prosper and evolve.
