Hi! This manual will show how to use Gmuli WWG Calculator(it is made for version 4.1.0.0.2.5). At the end there will be a few examples how to use different parts of it for practical questions. When we open the app we see this screen:

1.Legend/Components Lets look at each component and see how it can be used. Color part shows different aspects of the app we are explaining, while the black/white parts are what we aren’t looking at now.

1.1. Main Screen

Main screen is where the Hexagram is showed with its branches, relations, Ti / Yong, and extra info.

1.1.1. Different Views for Main Screen There are 3 different main screens, right now. To switch between them we can use CTRL. Pressing it once will move to Mei Hua screen with 3 Hexagrams, Pressing it one more time it will move to Mei Hua screen with 2 Hexagrams. One more time will return to the Liu Yao Original Screen. Another easy way to navigate between them is in the menu. Press Alt to show the menu(or the button on top of screen), then we go to: View>Main Screen

3 Screens show different information, while Liu Yao(original one) is more related to work with the lines the Mei Hua screens will show more information regarding the Trigrams. Changes in Mei Hua screens show same Hexagram and changing lines as the one in Liu Yao screen. So if we want to add changing line in any of them we switch to Liu Yao, add changing line(more on that below) then we hit CTRL again to move back to Mei Hua if we need to.

Number in the () is based on the number of hexagrams. Since one of the Mei Hua screens is using 3 Hexagrams, including the “Progress Hexagram” made from the inner lines of the Original one. The key here is that if we want to work with Mei Hua screens to add changing lines we do it form Liu Yao interface. So if we need to add one more for example we hit CTRL, Liu Yao screen shows up, we hit changing line then hit CTRL again to go back to Mei Hua parts of the Main Screen. If we want to change to the other Mei Hua screen from the menu we just have to click the Mei Hua option second time.

1.1.3. Liu Yao Screen Lets look at what is included in Liu Yao screen!

1.1.3.1. Ti/Yong

Ti and Yong show what line is marked with Ti and what with Yong. There are other names that could be used, for example Subject/Object, or Ours/Others, Host/Guest and many others. As many other parts of the app we can see more info about both of them as we hold mouse over them. This is very often used and I won’t mention it each time, since it is on almost every part of the app..

Only situation when Ti and Yong change their way of showing, excluding the translation, is if we switch to Super I Ching way(more on that after). If we do that they will change and show J and U for Ti and Yong instead.

1.1.3.2. Hexagram Selection

Sometimes in books, forums or articles we can see instead of picture the number of hexagram. Often way of writing them could be for example 64.5 and that would mean we have Hexagram 64 with changing line 5. Or hexagram 64.5.6 and that would be Hexagram 64 with changing lines 5 and 6. With this dropdown menu the app allows the user to select hexagram by number, that will adjust the trigrams to show it. Since Resulting Hexagram(right one) is made from the changing lines of the Original Hexagram(left one) we can’t select Hexagram to show there based on number.

1.1.3.3. Changing Lines

There are different ways to add hexagrams. The ones that are more related to Mei Hua, or the random generated ones add changing lines as well(more on that below in the manual). However if we want to add hexagram manually we click this 6 lines to show a line is changing. It will turn from a text to show a graphic arrow. “Click here if Line N is changing” will turn to arrow: That will show that that line is changing and we can see the line in the second Hexagram will reflect that change as it will recalculate based on the new Trigram value it will take.

1.1.3.4.Hidden Line There are two ways to view hidden lines. One is to view them on the right of the lines, more on that later in the manual(at 1.1.3.3.Additional Info on Lines). The other way would be to look at where it says Hidden Line:

1.1.3.5.Void Branches Void branches and the days until void branches are out of void are shown on the right of hidden lines here:

Void branches are the 2 branches that are out of the 10 days pillar stream. Since stems are 10 and branches 12 there will always be 2 branches that doesn’t have stems in them in the initial arrangement of 60 pillars. Void Branches will be calculated in the same way for any other options except Super I Ching. When that is turned on there is small difference when there is Jia stem day. That is a difference that is used in the materials there, more info in the website or books related to that approach. There is also a notification of the days left until the void stream ends and this branches are normal again.

1.1.3.6.Yin/Yang Lines Here Yang lines on the hexagram itself are shown by a Line: While yin lines are shown by Broken Line: There are many other ways of writing them. One example would be , for Yang, and , , for Yin. Or with numbers or many other ways, but this is the way we will use here since it is the more recognized one.

1.1.3.7.Branches

On the right of the line images we can see the pinyin name of the branches, their element, polarity and the relation to the Hexagram element. Lets look at it one by one starting with the top 2 branches in the image. Xu + Earth ( Parent) Xu – that is the pinyin way of writing the chinese symbol of 戌 , that is often called Dog as well. + - it means this earthly branch is from Yang polarity. Earth – it means that the element it belongs to is Earth. The relations in the () is how the element of the branch interacts with the element of the Hexagram. In this case the Hexagram is Metal, while the branch element is Earth. That means the branch will have Parent assignment, since Parent/Resource/Seal produces Metal. That gives it Images and qualities related to Parent/Resource/Seal position, more on that when we mouse over each of the relations. Parent – relation of the branch to the Original Hexagram. Here is important to mention that for the resulting hexagram there are practitioners out there that use a different way of relating them. Instead of relating the relations to the first/original hexagram, they relate them to the second one. In this situation Xu will still be Parent, but if the second Hexagram was Earth for example, it would have been sibling. If we want to use that way of assigning of the relations, we can do that at View> Branches >Separate Or press Alt + 4

So what can we change from that menu, that affects this part of the app? Lets look at them one by one:

Alt+1 – Traditional This is the traditional assignment of branches on the lines.

Alt+2 – Blindsect Some blind schools in China are using different assignment on the branches. While they are the same for some hexagrams like the one the app starts with, they are different for many of the other ones. It may be nice to mention that not all blind schools are using the alternative assignments.

This specific branch method goes with alternative way of writing the stems as well. To turn it on we go to: View>Additional Info on Lines > Stems(blindsect) This will only work if the branches have been turned on, otherwise it will just be empty there. (algorithms for that as for many other things in the app are added thanks to ArtofFugue translations in the Five Arts Info Forums). Alt+3 – Separate This calculates the second hexagram relations(Officer/Sibling etc.) based on the element of the second hexagram, instead of based on the first. That way it is used by students of Joseph Yu for example.

Alt+4 - Super I Ching This are the assignments and terminology used in Super I Ching materials by Alex Chiu. This option changes a lot more then just the branches. Right now, it will change the day/month pillars, Ti/Yong, branches, relations, 6 animals(in this case called Colors).

Turning this on will switch to different way of calculating Void/Empty days. Keep in mind that void days when this is on may(and in some cases will) be different then what is used in traditional and other modes. To use it fully it is recommended you combine it with: View > Additional Info on Lines > Hidden Lines

As this will show the hidden lines on the right of the relations and branches, making it very similar to the Super I Ching examples. On all alternative views as Print View, or Copy Hexagram for Forums(more on this later in the manual) this changes are kept. So in the windows there it will show with the Super I Ching assignments and names used.

(here even though the Hidden Line text is still in pinyin, we can see the hidden line as third line on the right of the normal branch text)

1.1.3.8.Additional Info on Lines

Additional info on lines are on the right of the branches. Since there are different additional info that can be shown that part of the View window lets us choose what we want to see there.

(Here it shows the 12 deities)

Exception is for Super I Ching branches, where even though it can still show everything, since the other Hidden Branches field isn’t using Super I Ching characters, it may need to be in Hidden Lines mode. Some general info about the different possibilities with this menu: Ctrl+1 – Twelve Deities This is the default screen. It will show the 12 deities that fall into each of the 6 branches. More info about their names and short descriptions from ArtofFugues translation in the Five Arts forums, we can see as we set mouse over them.

Deities and text is as here: Grand Duke(earth) - Neutral deity. Encounter auspicious star(s) becomes auspicious, encounter ominous star(s) becomes ominous. If absence of auspicious star(s)# it is ominous. Green Dragon(wood) - Happiness deity, bringer of good luck, smooth-sailing progress, happy events, success, fame, aspects related to literary/academic fields/documents/paper work/certificate, celebrations, promotion, material gains or help/support from benefactors. Also has implications of moving house, travel or positive changes, favourable turn of events. Funeral Door(earth) - Sadness deity, bringer of sad events like death in the family, someone's death, bad luck, failure, wealth losses, sudden expenses, unlucky occurrences, helplessness, problems, obstructions, disharmony in human relations, quarrels, deterioration, negative changes,

unfavourable turn of events or harm by vile people. Also likelihood of lawsuit, imprisonment or heavy sentence in existing legal case. Six Combination(wood) - Happiness deity, bringer of happy events like arrival of offspring, celebrations or helpful benefactors. Also likelihood of partnership, external help, cooperation, harmonious human relations, affinity with opposite sex, romance affinity or wedding for existing relationship. Official Amulet(earth) - Neutral deity, represents career mainly but also can bring legal issues, lawsuits or quarrels. With auspicious stars, it is a sign of good career luck, favoured by superiors or even promotion. Small Deplete(water) - Ominous deity of topsy-turvy, unreliability, minor wealth losses, small legal fines, traffic summons or robbery. Big Deplete.(fire) - Ominous deity, fall-out Of human relations, quarrels, major wealth losses, huge legal fines or sabotage by vile people. Red Phoenix(fire) - Ominous deity, bringer Of quarrels, disputes, backstabbing, gossips, being framed or sabotage by vile people. Also likelihood Of law suit or imprisonment In on-going legal Case. White Tiger(metal) - Ominous deity, bringer of bloodshed, calamity, fighting, physical injuries, calamity, law suit, disharmony, strong competition and accidents. Also likelihood of bankrupcy, retrenchment, dismissal from job, major failures or severe defeats. For on-going legal case, there is likelihood of imprisonment, corporal punishment or heavy sentence. Noble Deity(earth) - Auspicious deity, bringer Of good wealth luck, happiness, good fortune, smooth-sailing progress, happy events or helpful benefactors. Also likelihood of grooming by mentor / superior or promotion For work-related questions. Funeral Guest(metal) - Sadness deity, bringer of sad events like death in the family, someone's death, bad luck, failure, wealth losses, sudden expenses, unlucky occurrences, helplessness, problems, obstructions, disharmony in human relations, quarrels, deterioration, negative changes, unfavourable turn of events or harm by vile people. Also likelihood of lawsuit, imprisonment or heavy sentence in existing legal case. Sickness Amulet(water) - Ominous deity, bringer of illness, disease or health problems. Also likelihood of worries, troubles, fatigue, exhaustion or lack of energy. Ctrl+2 - Stems(traditional) Traditional stems are assigned based on the Trigram. For some reason it isn’t very popular method, even though it is the way that is suppose to have been in Jing Fang’s books. As the default method historically speaking it makes sense to have it here as well. Ctrl+3 – Stems(based on 10 day streams) Every 10 days of the chinese calendar there is a moving stream. 2 branches will be void in it and the rest will move from Jia to Gui. As Gui comes next day will be in another stream. That suggest that by default every pillar would have a default “stream” they belong to in any date of the year and by the same rule there are always 2 branches that won’t have stems with them for any date of the year, that are the branches we say are in “void” or empty. It is most logical method in my opinion, although rarely used. Ctrl+4 – Blindsect This is the alternative stems based on the branches of the blind schools alternative assignments. As mention already not all of these schools use it, but it can be seen apparently, so it is nice we have it here.

For the alternative stems to show up we need branches to be already switched to blindsect, that is done with Alt+2 – Blindsect. Once both of them are turned on, we can also see the NaYin of each pillar when we mouse over the stem.

Ctrl+5 – Hidden Lines This will show the hidden lines on the right of the visible line they hide behind. That can be useful for more easy to see representation, also if we are using Super I Ching mode, since in there the text with the hidden lines below will still be in PinYin, while this will be using Alexs terminology. It is the recommended “extra info...” when using Super I Ching. Ctrl+6 – 6 Animals This are the same 6 animals that are on the lower left part of the screen where information for the day is. They can show up next to the line to make it easier to see. Even though when Super I Ching mode is turned on they will switch to colors, they also do so in the lower part of the screen, so it is just for clarity.

As usual there is more info about them when we mouse over them.

1.1.3.9. Second Hexagram and hiding the inactive lines Second(Right) or sometimes called Resulting Hexagram is the first hexagram after all changing lines have gone through change. In that sense we can’t choose it, since it is constructed based on the first and its changing lines. Second Hexagram by default will show the relations(Parent, Asset etc.) based on the relations to the first(left) or Original Hexagram. That is the way it is used most often, however if we want instead of that to see them based on the element of the second Hexagram, we go to:

Alt+3 – Separate While if we want to hide the inactive lines, so we only see the lines that were moving from the original hexagram we can go to:

View>Hide Inactive lines or press Alt+W

Clicking different controls in the main screen will open the extra info screen on the left. More about that in that part of the manual.

1.1.4. Mei Hua Screens Switching between the Liu Yao screen and the 2 Mei Hua screens can be done with hotkey Ctrl(pressing it once to go through each screen). Alternative option would be from the menu as:

Doing it from the menu will switch form Liu Yao view, to Mei Hua view(with 3 Hexagrams). If we want to switch to Mei Hua view with 2 hexagrams from there, we click one more time Mei Hua(Trigrams) option. As most controls mouse over them will give more info and clicking them will give even more on the left panel.

1.1.4.0 Adding changing lines to Mei Hua screen Adding changing lines can happen in a few ways. We can switch to Liu Yao screen and click the lines we want to add as changing. That will change them in Mei Hua screens as well, since the screens show the same Hexagram and movement. Alternative way would be to Press F4 and add changing lines with dots. So if we want ot add changing lines 4 and 5 we press F4 and we type: .4.5

While this will add lines 4 and 5 as changing in the hexagram that is opened right now, if we instead type without dots, for example 4.5 that will switch to hexagram 4 and add 5 as changing line.

That same option can be used even in Liu Yao screen.

1.1.4.1.(3 Hexagrams) Shows the Original, Progress and Result Hexagrams, more info below.

1.1.4.1.1 Original Hexagram

Original hexagram is the initial condition of the lines/elements, before they transform/mutate/change. In the Mei Hua screens we can see the relations between the elements of the Trigrams they make. That is done by the arrows having possible choices of Control, Produce, Same and Control/Produce in the other direction. Original hexagram exist in both Mei Hua screens, as it is the starting point(and in some ways of writing the Hexagrams, is the only one that exists).

1.1.4.1.2 Progress Hexagram

That hexagram isn’t used by everyone and is made from the inner lines of the first one(lines 2,3 and 4 for the lower Trigram, and 3,4 and 5 for the higher one). The reason there are 2 Mei Hua screens, is because with Progress Hexagram here, we can’t see the relations from the Original Trigrams to the elements of the Resulting ones. In this example we can see higher trigram in the Original Hexagram would be controlled from the Progress, hexagrams higher Trigram, as Kan controls Li. We can also see Kan will be produced by Qian, but we can’t see that Li will control Qian yet, because there is no direct path from Original to Resulting. For that we need the other screen. Some people would view the movement form Left to Right as exclusive. So there wouldn’t be a way form Kan to control back Li, even just as specification of a change. If someone wants to hold that approach, they just need to consider the inverted arrows for Control and Produce, as meaning “weakening” in both times. No option for that in the app as it is rarely used, so far.

1.1.4.1.3 Resulting Hexagram Made from all changes lines in the original hexagram, much like in Liu Yao screen. However here we see it as Trigrams and elements again.

1.1.4.2 Mei Hua Screen(2 hexagrams) Alternatively we can view the relations between the first and third hexagrams from above. That would be the same 2 hexagrams we have in the Liu Yao screen.

All Trigrams will show some Images related to them and their strength in the month when clicked.

1.2. Line Extra Info screen This panel will show extra info for elements we click in the app(mostly in Main Screen). Most useful would be clicking Trigrams, line or the hidden lines label below the Hexagram. That panel can be switched manually from View>Left Menu >Line Extra Info or pressing F2. That is also a way to switch back to Trigram view, this time from View>Left Menu>Trigrams or Pressing F1. Alternative way would be same options in the controls at lower part of the screen.

From Trigrams and their strength, to changing lines and showing if a line is active or not, all this will be covered by this panel. While for Mei Hua it can be used for Trigrams, as shown here. When it comes to the Active Line screen, it uses specific priority for showing that will be explained below. Also while it does use some rules for figuring out if a line is Active(be that hidden, moving or any other line), it isn’t suppose to be extensive. That part of the reading have to be done by the person reading the Hexagram and can’t be fully covered by the app at this time. (for Mei Hua trigram on the left, for active line on the right)

1.2.1. Trigram Extra Info • From up going down that would show: • Strength of the Trigram in the season(basically based on the element of the Months Branch). Few images(for a lot more extensive images can see Menu > Generate > Make Hexagram From Situation(F5). • Direction, Organs and Family member associated with that Trigram. • If there is changing line in that trigram is will say it may be Ti/Subject/Body. If there are changing lines it will say it could be Yong/Object/Use.

1.2.2. Line extra info • • • •

Again strength of line based on the season. Since it is based on the season Shen in Chou month will be considered strong, even though technically it may fall in it depending on the rules we are using. Relations of that line to all the 6 lines of the Original Hexagram. Relations from Day and Month to that line. Sometimes it may show relations that aren’t considered possible, for example Day Branch being controlled by it. In that situation the idea is to consider it would be the inverse(line will be weakened). Active Line – in general moving line is active, meaning it is doing something, be that combination, clash, producing or controling other lines. There are exceptions for example when Day Branch is clashing a line it can be Active, but in lesser way, depending on the rules we are using that would include some functions(or maybe all). App will try to give pointers to the situation there. However for that to be somewhat consistant need to have in mind the order it will calculate.

Order for calculating priorities goes like this: 1. It will calculate relations in the same Hexagram and with Day/Month. 2. It will calculate relations from the changed line to its original line. 3. It will calculate relations from the hidden line to the changed line. Saying it in more simpler way, so lets say the hidden line is considered active(again depending on the rules we use, so all of this may not be what someone will want to use, but the default way is like this). That may happen if the hidden line is controling the visible line for example, in the way app calculates now. So if we click the visible line it may say it is active. If we click the resulting line it may say so again. Clicking the invisible line(the label about it below the Hexagram) it will finally say that the visible line may not be active, as the invisible one is. Again that would depend on the rules we use, but that is the way it will calculate and show the info, right now.

1.3. Hexagrams Extra info panels There are 2 of those, one above and one in the lower part of the app. They will give more info about the Hexagrams, their type and some other details.

As usual hovering the mouse above each of these will give more info about it.

So we have the upper part showing the original hexagram. Lower one the resulting one. For original one it will show all the things listed below, while for resulting one it will show just some of them: • Palace: The element that this hexagram belongs to. This is used for the type(generation) of the Hexagram and for the element it has, resulting in all relations coming from it. • Special type: Fate, Blood etc. all this are special type of Hexagrams. More info as we mouse over them. • Element: This comes from the element of the Trigrams that makes the Palace above. • Body: There are other ways of calculating Hexagram body, but this one seem the most used. • Generation: This is also a form of “Hexagram type” although it is more connected to the movement of Ti and Yong lines in each step of the Palaces. More info in the forums. • There is also one more type of hexagrams that are viewed as seasonal. They can be used as time reference as well and are made from consistant higher and lower Yang/Yin lines moving month by month, that will be noted both in Original and in Resulting screens.

1.5. Day and Month

In here we can select the day of asking, see the Animals/Colors that apply to that day, the pillars for the Day/Month of asking and also we can add manually stems/branches for that day. In the chinese calendar there can never be yang stem with yin branch, or the other way around. They are either both yin or both yang. So while the app will accept and try to calculate it if it is given in contradicting way, it can’t really happen in reality. On the left we can see the animals(White Tiger, Flying Serpent etc.) As usual we can see more info about them when we click them. We can also see them on the right of the lines, instead of the 12 deities. To do that we can go: View>Additional Info on Lines> 6 Animals or press Ctrl+6

Below each of the 2 pillars, for the Day and Months, we can see the Na Yin that is related to them. That is melodic element, it is a way to view a whole pillars element, instead of just Stem or Branch. Rarely used in most Mei Hua examples, sometimes it is. If someone works with True Solar Time, the Day Pillar will change in another time, not in 00 hour. Same if someone works with other country time(for example China). To work like that will need to adjust manually, if you calculate that it should be next day or previous day in there, just move the pillar one day back. Date selector is usual control for windows.

It will show format and days based on our operation system preferences and language. If we want to switch to previous or future years faster we can left click the line between the 2 arrows. Doing it 2 times will “zoom out” to easiest selection for longer periods like this:

As this is part of the normal windows control and we do have it already in the operational system more explanation probably aren’t needed. There are in the net for working with windows calendars and controls. That wil also decide how the calendar will look. From showing only numbers, to showing the name of the day, so not leaving space for the year – all that is up to the OS of the person using it and can be changed in Control Panel > Region and Language(in Win 7, similar in others)

1.6. Hexagram Selector We can read a little of its use in 1.1.4.0 Adding

changing lines to Mei Hua

screen, but there is more to that. It is started by pressing F4.

Any number we input at start will be consider a hexagram. Any number with dot behind it would be consider a changing line. So as mentioned before 54 – will switch to hexagram 54 reseting all lines. 54.1.2.3 will go to hexagram 54 and it will make lines 1,2 and 3 as changing. Pressing only .1.2.3 so each number starts with dots, will just add changing lines 1,2 and 3 making 4,5 and 6 not changing in the currently Original Hexagram on all screens. The selector also accepts Alex Chiu’s Super I Ching names of Hexagrams for easy input. So for example if we input Big Storage.1.2. it will switch to hexagram 26 reseting all changing lines adding 1 and then 2. Can be very nice for fast input of Hexagram if we know what we are looking for.

1.7. Menu There are some options that can be accessed only from the menu. To show the menu press Alt or click the label saying it.

Menu above, label to click below(or can just click ALT as it says)

Going through them from left to right.

1.7.1. File 1.7.1.1. Settings Right now the only thing there is connected to the translation file. It will remove or show the first lines of each translation file, so the numbers would be visible or not. Very useful while we are correcting the text file, not needed once it is already ready.

1.7.1.2. Open This will open the save/open window. As soon as we open it it will create otherquestion.txt file in the directory where the app exe is. That will hold any questions and it can be viewed and edited manually, as well, more on that below.

In the upper left corner we can choose category of the questions. As soon as we open a category another file will be creates with that category name and .txt extension. Selecting a question in the left will show the 4 pillars, hexagrams, date and text of the question. Clicking Open will open it. Clicking Delete Entry will delete it. Clicking Save Current Chart will always just save the current chart adding it below all other questions, so far with what is displayed on screen. So if you click a already asked question and click save current chart, it will ignore the hexagrams and time, and it will save the current open hexagrams(behind in the app) with the quesiton and notes from the text fields. If we edit the .txt files with the questions we can see many lines similar to this: Test,Test,3/23/2018 4:16:00 PM,3/23/2018 4:16:00 PM,True,False,9,9,1,3,2,4,5,11,1,1 For the question above.

It is used “CSV” or comma seperated values format, where the actual information is seperated by commas, obviously. While they are editable like that, keep in mind that if you leave an empty line or leave “word wrap” on in your editor the app may crash when you open them in the future. If that happens either fix the txt file, or just delete it. Can also move the exe to another directory and run from there. So what are the values that are actually saved? Lets look at the test example from above: Test,Test,3/23/2018 4:16:00 PM,3/23/2018 4:16:00 PM,True,False,9,9,1,3,2,4,5,11,1,1 Test – Question Test – Notes on Question 3/23/2018 4:16:00 PM – Date and Time the question was asked True – Place holder value should always be true for the WWG app False – Place holder value should always be true for the WWG app 9 – Hour Stem Number 9 – Hour Branch Number 1 – Day Stem Number 3 – Day Branch number 2 – Month Stem Number 4 – Month Branch Number 5 – Year Stem Number 11 – Year Branch Number 1 – Selected Hexagrams 1 – Resulting Hexagram This is always the order they are saved in in the WWG app(keep in mind there are differences in the BaZi app saves, some parts are similar, but others not). So feel free to edit it manually, or open it in other programs if you need. As long as every line starts with the name of question, there are no empty lines and there is no “word wrap” on in the editing program, it should be fine to do changes.

1.7.1.3. Copy for Forums This option will make a string, very similar to the Chinese Plotter. That string can be pasted in forums, documents or any other places that allows text. May need some formating depending on the editor, but overall should look recognizable and won’t require to upload picture. Looks like this:

Ti▅▅▅▅▅Xu+Earth(Parent) ▅▅▅▅▅Shen+Metal(Sibling) ▅▅▅▅▅Wu+Fire(Officer) Yong▅▅▅▅▅Chen+Earth(Parent) ▅▅▅▅▅Yin+Wood(Asset)

▅▅▅▅▅Xu+Earth(Parent) ▅▅▅▅▅Shen+Metal(Sibling) ▅▅▅▅▅Wu+Fire(Officer) ▅▅▅▅▅Chen+Earth(Parent) ▅▅▅▅▅Yin+Wood(Asset)

▅▅▅▅▅Zi+Water(Child) ▅▅▅▅▅Zi+Water(Child) Day Pillar: 1.Jia/3.Yin Tiger ,Month Pillar: 2.Yi/4.Mao Rabbit, Date:3/23/2018 4:43:40 PM 1.Ch'ien The Creative >>>> 1.Ch'ien The Creative Hidden Line: None Changing language or text on the lines(to Super I Ching for example) will change the text that is copied in the string as well. Clicking that the string is automatically copied, you just need to paste it in the forum/document. For that just right click there and choose Paste, or type Ctrl+V.

1.7.1.4. Print Preview Another view to the hexagram and some details about it. Can use it to save or print Image from there. The “save” button won’t show up in the Image. Also it will try to keep the other arrangement of branches or stems if it is switched to them(like Super I Ching, or Blindsect).

1.7.2. Generate This includes different ways of generating the Hexagram and changing lines.

1.7.2.1. Make Hexagram from Time (F6)

Creates hexagram based on the current time, or a specific number. If we want by time we click the Time box and it will activate controller for choosing time with the current OS time selected. For number we click in the right part of the screen Any Number and add numbers on the left of it. All the steps of calculations here are shown, so people can learn and do this on their own. Changing line is made by the sum of all the numbers then dividing them by 6 and taking the remainder(6 if it is 0).

1.7.2.2a Make Random Hexagram (F7) This is the same as the “Generate” button. It will try to make random hexagram simulating 3 values for each line, much like a coins.

1.7.2.2b Make Random Mei Hua Hexagram (F3) If we want Mei Hua hexagram instead we can click this, or click the Generate button while holding shift.

1.7.2.3. Make Hexagram from Situation(F5) This is using the “Shao Kangjie classic cases” translation examples from ArtofFugue in the Five Arts forums. It uses images related to the Trigrams to convert a feeling coming form a real world situation into trigrams and adding changing line based on the time of asking.

The images here are mostly from Shao Kua, from some other books and a lot just from practice. To use it we select:

This is just for clarity. In practice upper trigram won’t always be the person doing the activity, but it’s a good starting point if unsure how to position them. After selecting this click the images related to the Trigram. Then do the same for the lower one. Selecting “Select whom is the activity influencing(Lower Trigram), then click the images. The changing line will be calculated automatically based on the hour. At times you may want to adjust the hour if you remember some events that happened before with that images.

The changing line here will be calculated based on the branch of the hour. It will substract 6 if the number of the branch is after 6. So for 12:00 for example, we have 7.Wu Horse branch that -6 is 1st changing line. While 23 as branch 1(Zi) is again 1st changing line.

1.7.2.4. Hexagram(by Number) (F4) This is the same hexagram selector that was explained at 1.6. Hexagram Selector

1.7.3. View More info about the parts of View screen, we can see at 1.1.3.7.Branches and 1.1.3.8.Additional Info on Lines

2. Symbolic stars There are 2 ways to open the Symbolic Stars screen. First way would be using the menu or pressing F3.

That will give a list of all symbolic stars, the way to calculate them and a brief explanation from ArtofFugues translations in the Five Arts Forums.

Alternative way would be by right clicking on the lines and choosing Symboling Star of the Line.

This will calculate stars that are applying only to that specific line and will show them with their description.

3.Translation File To access the translation file we can again right click any line. That will show the line in the translation file with the idea that line is changing.

Alternatively we can right click the name of the Hexagram and see the text for the whole hexagram. There is a specific way to make the translation file. A lot easier will be to replace the values in a template file. So how does the template file looks like? Lets give an example: Name of Translation 01.0.0 Name of Hexagram 01.0.1 above Upper Trigram 01.0.2 below Lower Trigram 01.0.3 Some text name 01.0.4 Very long test line here. The key thing is that this is one line. If we disable the “word wrap” function So in the text editor the lower line should be 01.0.5 and there should be long scroll bar to see the 4th line. 01.0.5 Here starts new line. 01.0.6 Here in some translations there would be - THE IMAGE for example. 01.0.7 01.0.8 Skiping the 7th line now we have not just new line, but also one empty one above. 01.1.0 Nine at the beginning means: 01.1.1 Some text about nine at the beginning. 01.1.2 01.1.3 01.1.4 01.1.5 01.1.6 01.1.7 01.1.8 01.2.0 01.2.1 01.2.2 01.2.3 01.2.4 01.2.5 01.2.6 01.2.7 01.2.8 01.3.0 01.3.1 01.3.2 01.3.3 01.3.4 01.3.5 01.3.6 01.3.7 01.3.8

01.4.0 01.4.1 01.4.2 01.4.3 01.4.4 01.4.5 01.4.7 01.4.5 01.4.5 01.5.0 01.5.1 01.5.2 01.5.3 01.5.4 01.5.5 01.6.0 Nine at the top means: 01.6.1 01.6.2 Here is some text about nine at the top from Zhou yi. 01.6.3 01.6.4 Some text from the wings. 01.6.5 01.6.6 01.6.7 01.6.8 01.7.0 There is text for all changing lines in some translations for hexagrams 1 and 2. When you get to hexagram 3 just stop at 6. 01.7.1 01.7.2 01.7.3 01.7.4 01.7.5 01.7.6 01.7.7 01.7.8 02.0.0 2. K'un / The Receptive 02.0.1 Upper Trigram of Kun 02.0.2 Lower Trigram of Kun ,,, … So we have 3 set of numbers. For example 01.6.5 01 – Number of Hexagrams 6 - changing lines 3 – because of the way the file is structured, we use the other numbers for new lines. So since for most changing lines we have around 8 numbers that means we can add text with 8 new lines.

This is the key thing here, if we look at line 01.7.5 all this is one line - 01.7.5 When all the lines are nines, it means that the whole hexagram is in motion and changes into the hexagram K'un, THE RECEPTIVE, whose character is devotion. The strength of the Creative and the mildness of the Receptive unite. Strength is indicated by the flight of dragons, mildness by the fact that their heads are hidden. This means that mildness in action joined to strength of decision brings good fortune. To be able to do that, you need to remove “word wrap” from your text editor. And this is all, can just replace with any text from any translation the above parts. Then copy paste the numbers again and change 1 to 2, and so on until 64. Of course, the idea is that text above is only used for the numbers. And removing the 01.7 part after hexagram 2. Using it with the example text above, when we click Hexagram 1 line 1 we can see:

That is all for Gmuli WWG app for now. Hopefully people will find it as useful as I do. Enjoy! Feel free to send any questions to [email protected]
