INTRODUCTION BP and Sonatrach are developing the In Amenas Project (IAP) Contract area in the country of Algeria in Northern Africa. The development area is located in eastern-central Algeria, ~1300 km from the capital city, Algiers. The initial development of the Tiguentourine gas condensate field will comprise of a gas gathering system, a centralised process facility, and product evacuation pipelines. The Gathering System consists of well pad facilities, individual well flowlines, field manifolds and trunklines designed to gather produced fluids from individual wells and transport the multiphase mixture to a central processing facility (CPF) where the fluids will be treated to export specifications. The initial field development will tie in a total of up to 10 wells in the Tiguentourine field area via individual well flowlines through four field manifolds and trunklines to the CPF. Two trunklines will be required to develop the Northern area of the field and two further trunklines will be required for the Southern area. Individual well flowlines will be connected to the trunklines serving that area of the field at a field manifold. The field manifolds will be designed to allow tie-in of future wells.

SCOPE This specification covers the general guidelines for the selection of piping materials for aboveground process, utility, drain, and instrument piping systems for the Wellsites and Field Manifolds for the Gathering System for the In Amenas project of Algeria. Materials covered by this specification include pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, gaskets, flange bolting, and other common piping components and specialties. Individually engineered items intended for a specific location and which require data sheets are covered in other specifications, or by a written description on the design drawings The following specifications supplement this specification. •

4.0

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

4.1

Material Classes

Material classes are included as an Addenda to this specification. Piping Line List, Doc no 5174-LL-PD-09-00-51106 lists the class assigned for each line. The material class for any line is determined by the temperature and pressure and the service. A material class is identified by four alphanumeric characters . The first character (a letter) indicates the general service. The second character (a number- single or double Digit) indicates the primary flange pressure rating (1=150#,3=300#,6=600#,9=900#,15=1500#). The third character (a letter) indicates the basic metallurgy. The fourth character (a number) is a sequence number to distinguish between classes of similar services. The index and each material class show typical fluids, flange rating with maximum and/or minimum temperature limit, the nominal corrosion allowance and Design Code. The pipewall thicknesses listed in a material class are selected for the service or group of services covered by the class. The wall thickness cover all combinations of maximum temperature and pressure permitted by the Piping Code for the conditions indicated in the heading for the detailed pipe class sheets. 4.2

Substitutions Manufacturers' names and figure numbers are shown for reference only. Products equal in rating, material, construction, and quality may be substituted when approved by the CONTRACTOR.

4.3

Reports Material reports, test reports, and/or certificates of compliance are only furnished by the SELLER when required by the requisition.

4.4

Asbestos Materials The use of any piping materials containing asbestos is prohibited. Asbestos-free substitutes are to be specified for all valve stem packing and gaskets.

MATERIALS

5.1

Valves

5.1.1

Valve Design And Dimensional Standards

A brief description of each valve is included in each material class. A complete valve description will appear in the requisition. This description is supplemented by General Requirements for Valves document no.5174-SM-LM-09-00-53121. In general valve design is in accordance with ASME B16.34 or API 6D. Valves in pipe classes with corrosion allowances 4mm or more shall made of Solid Duplex Stainless steel or with Carbon steel Body with Inconel 625 weld overlay on the complete internal wetted surface. 5.1.2

Soft Seated Valves Valves with soft seats/seals such as ball, non-lubricated plug, butterfly valves, etc., are limited to service temperatures established by valve type, soft seat/seal material, and pressuretemperature relationship. Refer to manufacturer's data for valve seat pressure rating at design temperature. This data is also noted in the material classes.

5.1.3

Gate And Globe Valves. Globe valves are used for throttling service as shown on the P&ID flow diagrams. Gate valves are normally used for block valves. Manual gear operators shall be provided for gate and globe valves as shown in Table I.

5.1.4

Check Valves In general, check valves in the socket weld or screwed size range are ball or piston type in ASME Pressure Class 600 and less. Y-type piston type check valves are used for Pressure Class 900 and higher. Wafer-style dual plate check valves are used for NPS 2 and larger lines in all Classes .

5.1.5

Ball Valves Ball valves are used for tight shut-off in light hydrocarbon services. Valves with PTFE seats and seals are limited to a maximum temperature of 200°C. Ball valves used in hydrocarbon service shall be of a fire-tested design. Ball valves NPS 8” and larger in classes 150, NPS 6” & larger in classes 300, NPS 4” and larger in classes 600, NPS 3” and larger in classes 900 & 1500 are to be supplied with manufacturers' standard gear operators. All the ball valves shall be supplied with a locking arrangement to lock the valve in either open or closed position.

Bypasses Bypasses are located on certain valves to facilitate opening and closing or for warm up. Size of bypasses shall be as shown on P&ID. At the operating pressures in the GGS bypass should be 1” globe valve and 1” ball valve in HC gas service. (Butterfly valves may be used in larger sizes where globe valves are not available), and ball valves for water service. These bypasses shall be provided on the piping section of the line.

5.2

Flanges

5.2.1

Flange Standards Pressure rating, bolting and facing of all flanges NPS 24 and smaller are in accordance with ASME B16.5.

5.2.2

Flange Requirements Welding neck and socket weld flange bores shall match the inside diameter of the attached pipe. Class 600 and lower flanges are raised-face. Flanges for pressure Classes 900 and above are ring joint. Where noted in the requisition carbon steel flange facing shall be supplied with Inconel 625 Overlay for classes 300 & above.

C07

Flange Contact Surface Finish Table II defines the acceptable ranges of flange contact surface finishes for each type of gasket and service. The surface finishes are specified AARH, expressed in micro meters. TABLE II

Other types of materials may be used where corrosive conditions are the governing factor. 5.3.2

Corrosion Allowance The corrosion allowance considered for each pipe class is indicated in the ‘Pipe class Material summary’ (See Section 6) and the detailed pipe class sheets in appendix I. The corrosion allowance has been selected based on the Material selection report and the following guidelines. • •

5.3.3

The minimum corrosion allowance for pipe in carbon steel or low alloy steel services is 1.5mm. The minimum corrosion allowance for austenitic stainless steel and Duplex Stainless steel classes is 0.0mm.

Pipe Nipples Nipples are only used for short terminal connections such as vents, drains, and pressure connections. Nipples require heavier wall thicknesses than pipe of the same size to allow for increased mechanical strength and threading allowance. The minimum wall thicknesses for nipples are as follows: •

A short piece of pipe shall not be referred to as a nipple. It will be cut from pipe that has same wall thickness as the pipe in that material class. All threaded or close nipples are not allowed. 5.3.4

Process Instrument Lines Piping materials from the process line or vessel up to and including the first block valve in the instrument line are of the same material class as that specified for the piping or vessel trim to which they connect. The Instrument Material Classes specify the materials that will be used beyond the first block valve.

Fittings

5.4.1

Tolerances

Fittings are generally manufactured with the tolerance shown in the appropriate manufacturing standard. Fittings with other tolerance requirements are indicated as such in the purchase requisition. 5.4.2

Bends Pulled bends with a centre line radius not less than 5 x nominal pipe size (NPS) may be made up to and including NPS 1 ½ without heat treatment after bending. The use of pulled bends on larger pipe sizes shall be subject to approval by COMPANIES. To compensate for the effects of wall thinning from bending, the following allowances shall be considered as a minimum for carbon steel pipe: Bend Radius

Fitting Types Buttweld fittings are used for line sizes NPS 2 and larger. Generally socket welded fittings are used for lines sizes smaller than those listed for buttweld fittings. For services such as cooling water, domestic water, and instrument air, threaded fittings are specified. Special services and lube oil piping require buttweld fittings in all sizes.

5.4.4

Reducing Fittings Reducing fittings include reducing flanges, reducing tees, reducers and swages. Reducing elbows are not allowed. Reducers and reducing tees are limited to those size reductions listed in ASME B16.9.Reducing fittings are listed in the material classes by the larger size. Notes are provided in the material classes to direct the proper application of reducing fittings. Reducing flanges are listed by the flange size and the specified schedule is that of the reduced end. Reducing tees are listed by the run size. The reduction at a reducing tee is allowed only on the branch. Reducing fittings are specified where possible as Standard, XS, Schedule 160, or XXS.Threaded bushings are not allowed.

5.5

Branch Connections

5.5.1

Branch Connection Basis The basis for the design of branch connections are the applicable Piping Codes. Reinforcement requirements are determined in accordance with ASME B31.3. The SELLER shall be able to qualify fittings not to ASME B16.9 eg. Weldolets by burst test data or calculations to the relevant code. This data shall be available to the CONTRACTOR if required at the bid stage. Page 17 of 22

Branch Connection Tables When reinforcement is required, the branch connection tables in each of the material classes indicate the type of reinforcement to use.

5.5.3

Branch Connection Usage Branches are specified as follows:

In all pressure classes, size-to-size connections are tees.



All other branches require integrally reinforced branch connection fittings or reducing tees as shown in the branch connection tables.



Branches in certain underground systems have unreinforced or pad reinforced stub-ins in accordance with paragraph 5.5.4 of this specification.



Branches in severe cyclic service shall be as specified in paragraph 5.5.5 of this specification.

Pad Reinforced Stub-Ins When pad reinforcement is required, the minimum pad widths shown in Table IV apply. The actual pad width required will be calculated. The pad thickness shall be no less than the header wall thickness. TABLE IV

Branches In Severe Cyclic Service Welded branches in severe cyclic service, as defined in ASME B31.3, require sweepolets and additional weld quality assurance. Lines in severe cyclic service will be noted as such on the Piping Line List, Doc no 5174-LL-PD-09-00-51106.

5.6

Gaskets

5.6.1

Standards All types of gaskets for raised-face joints are in accordance with ASME B16.5.Non-metallic gaskets are also in accordance with ASME B16.21. Spiral wound and ring joint gaskets are in accordance with ASME B16.20.

5.6.2

Gasket Types Gaskets for pressure Classes 150 through 600 are spiral-wound with grafoil filler and CS outer centering ring. For pressure Classes 900 and above, octagonal ring joint gaskets shall be used.

Inner Confining Rings Stainless steel inner confining rings shall be used on all spiral-wound gaskets.

5.6.4

Gasket Thickness Compressed sheet gaskets are 1.6mm thick ring type. Spiral wound gaskets shall have a 3.2mm thick gauge ring.

5.7

Bolting

Material Selection Bolting materials are as listed in Table VI. The listed temperatures are fluid operating temperatures. Flange connections with bolting of nominal diameter 1 inch and above shall have sufficient clearance and access to allow the use of hydraulic tensioning equipment. Stud bolts shall be longer by one diameter to suit the bolt tensioner. Miscellaneous

5.8.1

Blanks And Spacer Rings The dimensions of all blanks (blinds) and spacer rings for sizes through NPS 24 are as specified in API 590, Steel Line Blanks. The contact surface finish for blanks will be in accordance with paragraph 3.3 of this specification. Spectacle blanks are specified in sizes through NPS 12 for ASME pressure Classes 150-600 and through NPS 6 for ASME pressure Class 900 and higher. In larger sizes, a two-piece system consisting of a plain blank and spacer ring is used. Where blanks are used with ring joint flanges the blanks will be female type. That is, the grooves for the gasket will be cut into both sides of the blank.

PIPECLASS P9A6P General Notes 1 PRESSURE/TEMPERATURE RATING IS BASED ON ACTUAL SERVICE DESIGN CONDITIONS 2 WHERE INDICATED ON THE PURCHASE ORDER FLANGE FACES SHALL BE WELD OVERLAY WITH INCONEL 625. THIS SHOULD EXTEND FROM THE RING GROOVE AT LEAST TO AS FAR AS THE PIPE BORE. 3 FLANGES USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH LINE BLINDS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH JACK SCREWS 4 MINIMUM BRANCH SIZE SHALL BE NPS 1.5 OR EQUAL TO LINE SIZE 5 WALL THICKNESS/BORE(SCHEDULE) SHALL MATCH THAT OF PIPE 6 ONLY TO BE USED FOR VENTS,DRAINS AND INSTRUMENT CONNECTIONS 7 CARBON STEEL BODY VALVES WITH 3MM INTERNAL OVERLAY OF INCONEL 625 ON ALL WETTED SURFACE IS ALSO ACCEPTABLE.
