THEORY, METHODS AND APPLICATIONS

The recent years have witnessed the explosion of the number of horizontal wells that are being drilled around the world. The drilling of horizontal wells presents challenges for the operators, as well as for the well planners and petroleum engineers. These challenges have resulted in new technologies and methods for exploiting more reservoirs, coupled with complex well designs. During the next few years, a new generation of engineers will become involved in stretching the horizontal departure in the drilling envelop. This process of extending the reach to a greater depth requires more in depth understanding of the well design. To fill the need Dr.Robello Samuel and Dr. Deli Gao have written Horizontal Drilling Engineering – Theory, Methods and Applications. This book provides the elementary coverage, details of the design, methods, well profile quantification and advanced methods and applications. The most comprehensive book in the horizontal drilling technology provides detailed explanation on different methods alongwith workedout examples to students and practical drilling engineers. Engineers will learn various methods and the basic principles on which these methods are based. - See more at: http://www.sigmaQuadrant.com. About the Authors: Dr. Robello Samuel is a Technology Fellow with Halliburton. He is currently a research and engineering lead for well engineering applications and responsible for research and scientific activities for new drilling technologies. He has more than 25 years of multi-disciplinary experience in domestic and international oil/gas drilling and completion operations. He is also an adjunct Professor at the University of Houston and Texas Tech University, Lubbock for the past 10 years. Dr. Samuel, a SPE Distinguished Lecturer, holds B.S. and M.S. (mechanical engineering) degrees from University of Madurai and College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University (Chennai), M.S. and Ph.D. (petroleum engineering) degrees from Tulsa University. He is also the author of five bestselling drilling engineering books. Dr. Deli Gao received his BS and Ph.D. degrees from China University of Petroleum, both in petroleum engineering, and received his Master of Science in mechanical engineering at the Southwestern-China Petroleum Institute. Since 1993, he has been working for China University of Petroleum-Beijing as a professor. He was previously director of Department of Petroleum Engineering in the University. Dr. Gao is a Cheung-Kong Scholars-endowed professor and director of key laboratory of petroleum engineering. Dr. Gao has 28 years’ research and teaching experience in the field of petroleum engineering.
