Dear Teacher, From all the Richmond team we’d like to transmit our hope that this Teacher’s Resource Book helps you and your students to make the most of the GO! 6 project. You will find the following three areas inside, each containing worksheets, their corresponding answer key and where appropriate, the audio transcript. These areas are designed to cover all the possible needs, queries or difficulties your students may have. Language: The worksheets comprising this section focus on the vocabulary and structures presented in the Student’s Book. You will find the most appropriate moment for the students to work with the material indicated in the Teacher’s Book. To help with the mixed ability in your class we have provided the worksheets at three levels: the reinforcement worksheets have been created to ensure that all students have an opportunity to assimilate the essential structures. The consolidation worksheets will allow you to see how the students are progressing with their learning. The extension worksheets are for those students who can go a step further and may need the extra input to stimulate them. With these three levels we give all the children the opportunity of extra practice and development. CLIL: In this section you will find more practice to help your students to understand the broader topics covered in Lesson 4 of the Student’s Book. Through interesting facts and details about the world and their environment, the children will take new terminology on board effortlessly. All CLIL topics reflect areas that have been covered in their equivalent school subject, thus making their comprehension easier for the student. Tests: You will find four types of tests: a general diagnostic test, unit, term, and end of year tests. This format allows you to choose the most appropriate time to gauge the level of your students’ understanding and assimilation of new language. The diagnostic test can be used both with new students and returning students as an indication for the teacher of the class level after the long summer holidays. The remaining tests are both varied and thorough and will consolidate the language worksheets. The tests include work on the four basic skills and include two different versions for the same unit based on level of difficulty in order to meet the needs of your students. Warm regards,
l te The Richmond editoria

Read and answer. At school we’re learning about Europe and we each have to find interesting facts about a country. I’m doing Sweden. This is what I have got so far. Sweden is physically the third largest country in Europe after France and Spain. Its capital and biggest city is Stockholm.
Sweden has got the largest scale model of the solar system in the world. It stretches 950km across the country. The Sun is represented by the Globen building in Stockholm. The first planet, Mercury, is nearly 3km from the representation of the Sun.
Sweden is a very green, eco country, they are one of the world leaders in environmental issues. They are very good at recycling their rubbish. It’s one of the countries with the cleanest air in the world. Over half the country is covered in forests. There are also rivers, glaciers, about 100,000 lakes and over 24,000 islands. Stockholm is a collection of 14 islands, all connected by bridges. It hasn’t really got any skyscrapers.
Over 1,000 years ago Sweden was home to the Vikings. They were probably the scariest invaders in the world. 1 Is Sweden bigger than France? 2 Is Sweden a very polluted country? 3 How many islands are there in the capital city? 4 How long is the model of the solar system in Sweden?

Read and answer. James is in Rome visiting lots of ancient sites. Yesterday he went to the Circus Maximus. He learnt a lot about its history. Here are some things he discovered. It was the largest stadium in the entire Roman Empire. The Romans built it over 2,500 years ago in wood, but after it burned down a few times in fires, it was rebuilt in stone. It was a stadium mainly for chariot races, but they also used it for other events and games. The last known race was in the year 549. It was free for everyone to go and see the races. Men, women and children attended the events. The rich people sat at the top and the poor people sat at the bottom, where it was more dangerous. The stadium was huge and held about 150,000 people. That’s bigger than the stadiums we’ve got today!
Many thousands more people could watch from the nearby hills. The winners of races were treated like famous rock stars! And talking of rock stars, sometimes today the Circus Maximus is used for rock concerts.

I’m Stella. Last month I went to the Scottish Highlands with my parents. We saw lots of castles and lochs in the way. Loch is the Scottish word for ‘lake’, they’ve got many of them in Scotland! On the first day, we travelled by car from Glasgow to Oban through a beautiful national park. There, we rented some bikes and circled around Loch Lomond. This is the largest lake by surface in Scotland. I was tired after that! The next day, we went up to Glencoe. This is such a beautiful valley! We went hiking and took photos of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain. On the third day, we took the steam train from Fort William to Mallaig. We enjoyed the beautiful views all the way, especially from the Glenfinnan viaduct, it’s amazing! That night we had dinner at a restaurant in Mallaig. We had the traditional Scottish haggis, it was delicious! On the fourth day, we took the ferry from Mallaig to the isle of Skye. We saw whales and dolphins on the way! Skye is one of the biggest islands in Scotland. We spent the day there and had a picnic. On the last day, we drove down to Stirling. We visited its castle and learnt a lot about the fantastic history of the town! Then we had to come back home. 1 Stella and her parents took two means of transport during their holidays. 2 Loch is the Scottish word for ‘sea’. 3 They took a high-speed train from Fort William to Mallaig. 4 They ate fish and chips in a restaurant in Mallaig. 5 They saw whales and sharks on their way to the isle of Skye.

Add details and invent additional information to conclude an anecdote. See the example: The week before the summer holidays, I was at the river near my house. I was with my dog, Blessy, and it was really hot. I drank water from the river. The next day, I felt very sick. The water wasn’t clean. I had to stay home for some days, so… no more school for me! My summer holidays were a week early!

Read and answer the questions. Last term at school, we did a project about ancient Rome. It was fascinating! We read about what the Romans ate, what clothes they wore, how people lived and all about life in those times. I’m really excited because next week I’m going to visit Rome with my dad! I can’t believe it! We’re going to see the Forum. You can see the ruins of temples and baths there. Then we’re going to visit the Colosseum. It was famous for its gladiator battles. After that, we’re going to go to a museum with beautiful mosaics, statues and lots of other things from the Roman period. The most exciting thing we’re going to do is go to a party where we have to dress up as Romans! We have to wear togas and sandals. 1 Did she like doing the project at school? 2 When is she going to visit Rome? 3 Where did they have gladiator battles? 4 Are they going to the Forum before or after the party? 5 What is she going to see in the museum? 6 What do they have to wear for the Roman party?

The ancient Romans were not the first great civilisation in Europe. There were some others before them. One of the most important ones was the ancient Greek civilisation, which existed nearly 4,000 years ago. The ancient Greeks were at their most powerful between 2,000 and 3,000 years ago. They developed new ideas for government, science, philosophy, maths, architecture, religion and art.
travelled they took their ideas with them and that is why we have lots of Greek influences in our life today: • The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC in the Greek city of Olympia. • A story says that a man called Pheidippides had to run from Athens to Sparta to ask for help just before the Battle of Marathon. This started the idea of the marathon race. • The first two letters of the Greek alphabet are called alpha and beta, so they gave us the word alphabet. • There are many buildings around the world built in the style of ancient Greece, for example, the British Museum in London. The Romans copied a lot of good ideas from the Greeks!
The people in ancient Greece ate fish, eggs, milk, cheese, nuts, olives, fruit, honey and bread. They wore sandals and tunics. They used coins to buy things. They built statues of their gods, goddesses and heroes. They sailed the sea to trade and find new lands. It’s probably the only room in the school where kids don’t go.

Thomas: Last weekend, I went camping in the mountains with my scout group. We had a fantastic time, but it was tiring. We hiked for hours carrying our sleeping bags… tents… and food. Luckily, it wasn’t raining, so we didn’t need our waterproofs. In fact, the weather was perfect. There were a lot of mosquitoes! Mosquitoes like water… and we camped next to a beautiful lake. The first thing we had to do was decide where to put the tent. In the evening, we made a campfire and cooked sausages and eggs. They were delicious! Camping isn’t for everyone. Some of my friends didn’t like the experience. In my opinion, it was brilliant!
