Listado N°5: “Conveyor Belt” 1. Run of mine coal (uniform) is conveyed at the rate of 2000 tph, with the maximum lump size of 8 inch. If a 35° troughing idlers are to be used and mined coal weights 75lb/f3. Define the appropriate width of belt, maximum speed and its production. 2. Design a 24 in. temporary conveyor belt to haul coal (55 lb per loose cubic ft) 2,400 ft at a level grade in an underground mine. The peak capacity should be 600 tph, and the belt speed is projected to be 500 fpm. The drive has an automatic take up, lagged pulley, and a 270° arc of contact; the motor drive efficiency is 0.9.

3. How many 75-horse power motor with an efficiency of 90% are required to drive a 36 inch wide portable conveyor belt which is designed to haul coal (density=60 lb/loose cubic ft) 2500 ft at a level grade (horizontal) in an underground mine? The take up is a manual bare pulley working at 210 degrees, peak capacity should be 700 tph and belt speed is projected to be 500 ft per minute. 4. How many 60-horsepower motor with an efficiency of 0.86 are required to drive a 66 inch wide portable conveyor belt which is designed to haul coal (density = 55 lb/loose cubic ft) 1800 ft at a level grade (horizontal) in an underground mine? The Takeup is an automatic bare pulley working at 180 degrees, peak capacity should be 600 tph and belt speed is projected to be 550 ft per minute.

5. In an underground mine, the coal (50 ib per loose cubic ft) is transported from the transportation gallery 1000 ft at a level grade with a 42 inch temporary belt. The peak capacity should be 600 tph. The coal material is then hoisted in a vertical shaft 700 ft up to the surface. Each hour, the extracted material is hauled by two locomotives and 20 ton capacity cars with a tare weight of 5 tones from a level siding at a maximum acceleration of a 0.5 mphps, a whole distance of 12000 ft to the port. Design the conveyor, skip and locomotive considering the following information. Conveyor belt (5 points) Information Width: 42 inch Speed: 500 fpm Manual take up, bare pulley, 210⁰ arc of contact Motor drive efficiency: 0.75
