Introduction Social Media Use in 2018

Credibility

According to Pew Research Center survey of United States, adults finds that the social media landscape in early 2018 is defined by a mix of long-standing trends and newly emerging narratives.

Background of topic

In the United States, there are 79% of population had a social media. This means that there were around 244 million social network users in the country in 2018. United States as the country with the third largest social network user base in the world, only behind China and India. By 2023, the number of social network users in the United States is forecast to increase to approximately 257 million.

Central Idea

Mostly, adult Americans use Facebook and YouTube frequently, but Snapchat and Instagram are the most popular among younger Americans who are heavy user by using it.

Description of data (Chart 1)

Body (Describing chart[s] and/or graph[s]) 1. The graph A shows the percentage of United States adult who say they use the following social media sites online or on their cellphone. 2. The graph also displayed the types of social media that they are using such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, Linkedln, Twitter and Whatsapp. 3. The used of social media sites are measured by the years starting from 2012 untill 2018 as illustrated in the graph.

4. Facebook and Youtube became the most dominated social media sites by adult Americans. Eventhough, Youtube started to became popular in 2018 compared to Facebook because you can use YouTube for knowledge. Anything from anyone and specific from an expert, everything is available here to learn that you think it will be possible.

5. Besides, Instagram also obtained the most popular social media sites among younger Americans compared to other social media sites. It was clearly shows the rising percentage starting from 2012 untill 2018 because it is an interesting social media sites for teenagers who are likely to sharing their photos with a caption through their cellphone only. 6. Furthermore, Whatsapp was placed at the lowest ranking of popularity among younger Americans compared to other social media sites. It is because, Whatsapp was not interesting as Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter where user can post a photo with Face Filter features and a caption. Description of data (Chart 2)

1. The graph B shows among United States adult who say they use the following social media sites online and the percentage of net daily usage who use each site. 2. The graph also displayed the types of social media that they are using was narrow down to Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube. 3. The daily usage of social media sites are measured by several times a day, once a day and less often.

Analysis of data (Chart 2)

4. Facebook remains the most popular social media sites in which it’s possessed 74% of net daily usage. This is because Facebook works as an RSS reader for news by giving a latest news to user who are need to keep updated. 5. Moreover, Snapchat clearly defeat Instagram with 63% of net daily usage compared to Instagram 60% of net daily usage. This is because Snapchat offers variety of interesting filter features that you can choose from to express yourselves and how you truly feel. 6. However, Youtube seems to have a lowest net daily usage with 45% only. It happens because Youtube requires it user to have a good internet connection in order to access it. If not, the video that you are watching from Youtube will buffering.

Conclusion In summary, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are popular among younger Americans while Facebook are popular among adult Americans. In addition, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are suitable for teenagers and specifically in media-based types. While Facebook is more suitable for adult who are need for information, news and business purposes. My recommendation to social media user these day is to be aware of your audience and be respectful also sensitive about the content you create or share. You should avoid creating unnecessary content or engaging in an online conversation in a manner that would compromise your personal information.
