1.SET DEVELOPMENTAL GOALS  Developmental goals are the key component of the developmental plan  Goals must be  Reasonable  Attractive  Deserved form a careful analysis of the area in which an employee needs to improve  Goals should take into account both short and long term career objects

2.IDENTIFY DEVELOPMENT RESOURSES,STRATEGIES        

Job training Attending courses Self-guided reading Mentoring Attending a conference Getting a degree Job rotation A temporary assignment

4.OBSERVATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF DEVELOPMENT BEHAVIOUR  Time constrains  Situation constraints  Activity constraints REASON TO DOCUMENT PERFORMANCE  Minimize cognitive load  Create trust  Plan for the future  Provide legal protection

RECOMMENDATION FOR DOCUMENTATION  Be specific  Balance negative with positive  Focus on job-related information
