1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE This method statement covers the preparation and insulation of the pipes (Hot & Cold) as well as all the required inspections and tests on insulated line pipes,.

RESPONSIBILITY 4.1

PROJECT MANAGER.



He will be the overall in charge of the operations.



Ensures that all workers follow the In house rules and Iraqi Laws.



Ensure that all workers will be working on safe working conditions.



To enforce any corrective actions required by client.



To also ensure proper housekeeping at all times.



To understand the whole work scope and requirements.



To participate in any HSE meetings and site walks required.

4.2

SITE COORDINATOR.



He will be working closely with the project manager regards to operations.



In any case, the project manager is unavailable for meetings, he will represent



He is to upkeep the requirements given by clients and project manager.



To do reporting and documentations for any submissions



He will be responsible to call for inspection once job completed, based on test packages.

4.3

SUPERVISOR



He is mainly in charge on site supervision



He will work closely with the management and execution



He manages the workers with instructions given by managements



If required for site walk and inspection, he must be present on site



He must ensure all workers are equipped with proper PPE.



End of the day, he must ensure housekeeping to be done before going home.

INSULATORS Workers are to report to supervisor every day for their job scope

They are check their tools before start of work.



Ensure proper PPE and if insufficient report to Supervisor.



They must be responsible of their own tools bags.



To follow all in house rules at all times.

GENERAL a) All insulation materials shall be stored, mixed, thinned and applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s printed instructions. b) All conflicts between the method statement and manufacturer’s instructions shall be brought to the attention of Contractor for resolution. c) Insulation material shall not be applied over wet surfaces. d) Insulation material section shall be trimmed as required to achieve tight fit without voids. e) Fabricated or preformed insulation shall fit curvature of the surface to be insulated. f)

If applying single layer insulation other than hinged pipe covering the circumferential butt joints of each half section shall be staggered.

g) If applying multi-layer Insulation material each layer shall be staggered to the longitudinal and circumferential joint of the layer beneath. h) Each layer of insulation shall be held in place separately. i)

Insulation shall be applied as single layer for thickness less than 90mm

j)

All insulation shall be free from cracks, voids and gaps. All cracks, voids etc greater than 3mm shall be refitted not filled.

k)

Installed insulation shall have the required permanent or temporary protection applied before the conclusion of days work.

l)

Insulation material shall be handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable local laws and regulations.

m) SS piping shall be insulated with SS wire mesh blankets to avoid bi – Metallic corrosion n)

Piping’s shall be tested & inspected as required by relevant specification prior to installation of insulation.

o)

Removable or flexible type insulation shall be used in areas where access for frequent maintenance is necessary.

p)

Nameplates shall not be insulated and shall be attached with extended brackets to give adequate clearance for full insulation thickness.

TYPES OF INSULATION 6.1

Hot Pipe insulation

a) All Pipe insulation materials shall be protected from rain and moisture. b) Pipe insulation sections shall be trimmed as required to achieve close fit to avoid major void and gaps. c) All hot piping insulation shall be done with mineral fiber (blanket/section) d) All piping insulation with single layer less than or equal to 8” shall be installed by preformed pipe section. e) Sectional Pipe insulation shall be sized to eliminate gaps and voids between surfaces and the insulation. f)

Sectional Pipe insulation shall be applied so all end joints are staggered.

g) Pipe insulation shall be secured with SS wire or Bands spaced at max. 250mm. h) For vertical piping Pipe insulation the support ring will install directly above all elbows, flanges or flanged valves. Additional support will install at every 6425 mm of uninterrupted length. i)

Elbow 4” and over shall be insulated with mitered cut.

j)

Pipe insulation shall terminate at a distance of (bolt length+25mm) flanges and valves occur.

6.2

Cold Insulation

a) All insulation materials shall be protected from rain and moisture. b) The thickness greater than 76 mm will be install by multi-layer insulation. c) All cold piping insulation shall be done with cellular glass. d) Insulation Up to 12” OD will secure by fiberglass reinforced tape. e) Insulation shall be sized to eliminate gaps and voids between Surfaces and the insulation. f)

Insulation Up to 36” OD from 12” will secure by 12 mm band.

g) Insulation over 36” OD will secure by 20 mm band. h) Insulation securement shall be spaced on a maximum of 250 mm. i)

Protrusion through insulation of piping will be insulated for a minimum distance equal to 4 times of adjacent insulation thickness.

j)

Insulation thickness on protrusions shall be half of adjacent insulation thickness.

k) Insulation thickness on protrusions shall be 38 mm, if the half value of adjacent insulation comes less than 38 mm. l)

Vapor stops that seal the insulation to pipe shall be installed at all insulation terminations.

m) Vapor stop shall extend a minimum of 50 mm from insulation termination point. n) Before the application of jacketing all insulated surface shall be sealed with vapor barrier sheet.

o) Vapor barrier sheet shall be installed without gaps or folds with 50 mm overlap. 7

HSE 7.1

HSE Manager shall ensure that the work is performed accordance to the approved Construction Safety Manual and precautions specified in the work permit. He shall ensure that barricades, warning tapes, warning signs, firefighting equipment’s and first aid kits are readily available at the working area.

7.2

Toolbox talk shall be conducted on a daily basis to inform the workers of the recent safety issues and incidents and to get feedback of any unreported unsafe acts. Feedback will then be processed and resolved.

7.3

Area shall be barricaded adequately with warning signs.

7.4

All Equipment’s and tools shall be checked for good conditions before commencing the work.

7.5

Unauthorized persons shall be excluded from the area.

7.6

Adequate caution boards and warning signs shall be provided.

7.7

On completion of job, the area shall be cleared of any materials and keep clean and tidy.

7.8

Hazard analysis for hazardous operation shall be carried out prior to commencing the works.
