Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 4

Module 1 Course Introduction Part 1

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 5

– Hypnosis equals sleeping, but they won't be asleep.

– Difference between stage and clinical hypnosis.

– It's not magic, it's science.

– People pay to be entertained, you must deliver.

– This class prepares you to create your own show.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 6

– Anatomy of a stage hypnosis show.

– Pre-show and Introduction. – Pre-talk and Convincers. – Call to Stage. – Pre-induction Instructions. – Induction and Deepening. – Test Skit and Dismissal. – Committee Introduction and Re-induction. – First Skit. – Deepening Skit. – Show Skits. – Individual Bits. – Energizing Skits. – Post-Hypnotic Skits, Final Skits and Trance Termination.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 7

– All you need are 10 people to come up.

– People want to have fun and some fame.

– You will always have people come up.

– People cycle in and out of trance and go to different levels throughout the show.

– Some people on stage just go along with it without being in hypnosis and that’s ok.

– We all go into hypnosis every day (TV, books, just awake, just about to fall asleep, etc.)

– Have you ever driven somewhere without remembering? That was hypnosis.

– Ever watch TV to get happy or sad? You know it's not real but you are affected anyway. That’s similar to hypnosis.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 8

Module 2 Course Introduction Part 2

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 9

– Hypnotic state is measurable.

– Beta 14 - 30 cps.

– Alpha 8 - 13 cps.

– Theta 4 - 7 cps.

– Delta 1 - 3 cps (deep sleep).

– Target area is Theta.

– Delta is sleep.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 10

– We cycle between all of them every day, naturally. So, hypnosis is natural.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 11

Myths

The following statements are often thought to be true, but they are false:

– You will get stuck in hypnosis.

– Only dumb people can be hypnotized – actually college kids and high school kids are very easy to hypnotize, since they are in their prime years of learning.

– You will violate your morals.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 12

– Your participants will bypass their critical factor – (conscious mind) so they can let go and have fun so we get the first responses and tap into creativity.

– Stage hypnosis allows us to access the spontaneous part of us – our subconscious instinctive part.

– We can have people imagining being hot or cold because the subconscious mind believes it makes it physiologically real.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 13

Why does stage hypnosis work because of the FACTS?

Fun - People are there to have fun. Authority - People respond to your authority and confidence. Control - We control the environment from beginning to end music, directions, lighting, everything.

Ten - Odds are in our favor, we only need 10 people. Science - We are using solid science taking them to theta bypassing critical factor and it's natural.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 14

– Two Britek at 650 W photography lights.

-- Two big rolls of duct tape for cords.

-- Speakers.

-- Wireless microphone.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 16

Layout This diagram shows how to arrange your stage.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 17

Module 4 Pre-show and Introduction

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 18

Pre-show – Meet with the producer.

– Music – This gets you and the audience in the mood for fun and it's hypnotic. Before the show, meet with the audio/visual person. Give them 2 CDs – a preshow mix with a variety of upbeat music from all genres and show CD with your induction music, skit music, etc. Have a variety of music 70s, 80s, 90s, hip-hop. Or you can have the music on an iPod, iPad, etc. You can control it yourself if you do not have an audio/visual person.

– You can have a pre-show person pump up the crowd with the left side of the audience applauding vs. the right side.

– Atmosphere – Check everything including the temperature of the air to make sure everything is relaxing and ready for the show.

– Lighting – test lighting.

– Recording – Make sure your camera is set up to record the show so that you can then sell the recordings afterward.

– Arrive at least two hours before show.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 19

– Stay back stage pre-show while the music is playing.

– Half hour before show, let the audience in.

– Two minutes before the show, have someone give a two-minute warning.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 20

Introduction – Have someone announce you with upbeat music in the background, "Ladies and gentlemen, live from_____, you’ve seen him/her on ________, please welcome________.”

– Keep it short and positive.

– Walk on with energy and own the stage.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 21

You say, “Hello, city you are in, are you ready to have some fun? Well this is my first, second, etc. time here. Are you guys always this fun? I know you guys have some questions about hypnosis and I'm going to answer them. Tonight’s show is an audience participation show. By round of applause, who has been to a stage hypnosis show before?”

– Make friends with the audience.

– Respect the audience.

– Talk to them, not at them.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 22

Module 5 Pretalk and Convincers

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 23

Pretalk – The pretalk is your opportunity to educate the audience about hypnosis so that people will want to volunteer to be on stage. You need people to come up on stage, or you will not have a show.

– Say, “The good news is that hypnosis is just like a movie. It's something you participate in and are a part of and enjoy. If you want to have the best seat in the house and have more fun than anyone, you can come up in a few minutes.”

– Hypnosis is very straightforward.

– Now it's all about compliance and building on that.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 24

– This is where the audience decides if they like you and trust you. It is the most important part of the show.

– Keep it short so you don't eat up valuable fun time.

– If you do corporate shows, you will find that people do not want to be there. Their company has required their attendance. You must pump up your enthusiasm. They are in suit and tie and inhibited. Start out with, "I'll bet you're happy to be out of the office." This separates them from their corporate job. Keep in mind that at corporate shows, the audience wants to see the bosses on stage, so tell them that the higher up they are in the company, the easier they are going to go into hypnosis.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 25

Elements of the pretalk (TEACHER):

Trust – Get the audience to trust you. Explain – Tell them what you are going to do. Assurance – Let them know that they are in good hands. Convincers – Use these to convince the audience about hypnosis. Humor – Keep it funny. Educate – Share your knowledge of hypnosis. Reliability – Let them know they will be safe.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 26

In order to encourage volunteers to come on stage, tell the audience:

– You won't miss the show if you come up, you will have the best seat in the house.

– Hypnosis is fun. It is neither magical nor mystical. It is natural. It is something that happens to each of us every day.

– Nobody gets humiliated or nude.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 27

Convincers – Use these to convince the audience of the power of hypnosis:

– Convincer #1: Have you ever driven somewhere and you couldn’t remember the drive? – That's hypnosis.

– Convincer #2: Have you ever spaced out during class? That's hypnosis.

– Convincer #3: Finger magnetism demonstration. Your fingers have magnets in them and are being pulled together.

– Convincer #4: Hand spinning demonstration. The harder you try to stop them, the faster they spin.

o “By round of applause, whose hands started going faster?”

– Convincer #5: Hands held together like vise grips and you are unable to pull them apart.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 28

– Convincer #6: Make the okay sign with your right hand and put it on your chin. The hypnotist puts it on his cheek. Most people will follow what the hypnotist does and not what he/she says.

– Convincer #7: Lemon test- Have everyone imagine cutting open and biting a lemon. They start to salivate.

– Convincer #8: Eye fatigue- Your eyes close more and more as you relax.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 29

Module 6 Call to Stage

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 30

– Choose diversity – Jock, black, white, cowboy, hippy, etc.

– Say, “I have 10 chairs up here and 200 people who want to be in these chairs. I'm going to start giving these chairs away in a moment. If you want to be hypnotized, have the time of your life, and have more fun than anyone, raise your hand and…”

A: Hypnotist picks people or

B: Have them come up on stage.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 31

– Organize alternating male-female, largest people on the ends and no friends next to each other.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 32

Why not do a suggestibility test to demonstrate who comes to stage? Because the people who pass it may not want to participate.

– For a high school, do not ask for volunteers because they will all rush the stage. Go to the audience and hand-pick them. Have them raise their hands if they want to be in the show and then you pick them individually.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 33

Module 7 Pre-Induction Instructions

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 34

– Say hi to all of the committee members.

o Tell them to focus on you, not on the audience or the person next to them.

– Remind them that nobody gets humiliated.

– Have everyone take a deep breath.

– Remind them that you will not reveal their deep dark secrets.

– Tell them, “This is your show and it's only going to be as good as you allow it to be. When I ask you to make a noise, I want you to bring the house down. But when I say be quiet, I need you to be completely quiet. During the next five minutes of the show, I need you to be completely quiet.”

– Cover women's miniskirts with black cloth.

– (To audience and committee) Make it clear that the induction is about to happen and will last five minutes and you require absolute silence during it.

– (To committee) Don't get out of your chair unless I tell you to.

– (To audience and committee) Cell phone on silent, not vibrate. Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 35

– (To committee) No gum. Anyone chewing gum? Tobacco? Candy? Have assistant take it in a napkin.

– (To audience) No flash photography.

– (To committee) say, “Does anyone have any present illness, heart condition, medical condition, back injury, neck injury or is anybody on any kind of illegal or prescription drugs whatsoever?” – Escort them all off stage if yes.

– “You'll always be able to hear my voice. When I say sleep, you will not go completely to sleep, but you will relax, feet on the floor and hands at your sides. Do not touch anyone on stage unless I tell you to. Close your eyes and count to 10. Now open them. That's what hypnosis feels like. It feels like sitting in a chair and listening to me. That's it.”

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 36

Module 8 Induction and Deepening

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 37

– Have all committee members uncross their legs and arms.

– Have assistant behind chairs to monitor stability.

– Ask everyone to be completely silent for five minutes.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 38

– Use hypnotic music in the background.

– The induction gets them into hypnosis but throughout the show, they will be re-induced.

– Fractionation - Means inducing hypnosis, waking them up, inducing hypnosis again, etc. This down up down up process brings them deeper into hypnosis each time so that the longer the show goes on, the deeper they go into hypnosis. This is why the more challenging skits are later in the show.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 39

Actual induction instruction to the committee members:

Say:

– Close your eyes.

– Deep breaths.

– Focus on your breathing.

– The smarter you are, the more easily you go into hypnosis (This is to reduce the possibility that people who think they are too smart to be hypnotized will purposely keep their eyes open. It also reduces the possibility that people who are on stage and do not want to look “dumb” will keep their eyes open).

– Relax.

– Lower your chin toward your chest. The lower your chin goes, the more you relax (Monitor for obedience).

– Relax any tense muscles.

– It's okay to move, cough, swallow, etc. These actions relax you more.

– Outside noises relax you more. Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 40

– You enjoy this process.

– Relax the muscles around your eyes, cheeks and behind your head, let your chin continue to lower toward your chest.

– Your arms feel heavy and your chest muscles relax.

– Your back muscles relax.

– Your torso muscles relax.

– Your arms, fingers and hands relax.

– Your feet and toes relax.

– Good.

– Relax your mind also.

– You can relax your mind as easily as you relax your body.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 41

– Let go of worrying whether or not you're doing it correctly. Just give yourself permission to relax.

– You know that tonight is the night you have chosen to have fun on stage.

– Now see a beautiful blue sky.

– With every word I speak, allow yourself to double the sensation of relaxation (This seems logical and easy for the mind to do).

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 42

Deepening

– See one white cloud (or sun, going down hill, etc.).

– Focus on it as it floats away. You watch it become smaller as it drifts away. As it does, you drift down deeper and deeper and you relax more and more.

– Your mind is open to new experiences now.

– You're ready to have fun tonight and to cooperate. You are willing to participate.

– (Deepening should count down from 10 to 1).

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 43

– During induction and deepening, look for who is cooperating and who is not. Those who are not willing, probably have to be dismissed.

– Induction begins to create group participation and builds collaboration, with you as the group leader.

– (Music with a theta tones and binaural beats is very relaxing).

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 44

Module 9 Test Skit

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 45

– This happens immediately after the deepening.

– This is the first skit. We start with a simple skit and build to more complex skits. This building from simple to complex is called pyramiding.

– Put one arm out straight and feel as if a helium balloon is pulling it higher and higher into the air. You can pull on their arm to help them. Alternatively, you can have a bucket that slowly gets filled with rocks and pushes their arm downward. Or you can tell them that their arm is stuck straight up in the air and that they are unable to move it. Look for obedience and dismiss those who do not comply.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 46

– At this point you need to go to each committee member and either give them a card or a number if you want them to stay.

– Go to each person. Pull on their arm, push them to the side, say sleep.

– Say, “And any time I shake your hand, tap you on your forehead, or say sleep, you will immediately go into a deep state of relaxation.” (Then count to three and bring them up. You are installing a posthypnotic trigger).

– Say, “Ladies and gentlemen let's have a round of applause for your participants.”

– Audience applause.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 47

– Start with the easiest skit and build to the most challenging. This diagram shows this process.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 48

Dismissal – Say, “If you did not get a number or a card, please enjoy the show from your seat in the audience.” (Re-assure them that they haven't done anything wrong).

– Or you could have said during the deepening, “If I touch you, wake up and return to your seat.”

– Re-arrange them male, female.

– Big people at the ends as anchors.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 49

Module 10 Introduction / Re-Induction

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 50

– Say to committee members (those on stage), “You guys are the best and the brightest. I'd like to get to meet you. Go to each one and say, “What's your name? Where are you from? Have you ever been hypnotized before?”

– After talking to each individual, pull their arm, push to them to the side and say “sleep.”

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 51

– Go down the line. This utilizes the post–hypnotic suggestions (triggers) already given. (Touching their forehead, saying sleep, etc. and also fractionation, since they are being put back into hypnosis. Also make small-talk about where they are from).

– Assistant is in back row the entire time.

– Now committee members are in the sleep position, leaning against each other with their eyes closed.

– Say, “Let's hear a round of applause for our stars tonight. The louder you are tonight, the better the show will be.”

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 52

Module 11 First Skit

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 53

– A follow-the-leader skit.

– Watch for floppers (people who have a tendency to fall out of their chairs) and people who get out of hand. Keep your eyes on them throughout the show.

– For a follow-the-leader skit, tell them what to do and they do it. Have them perform with their eyes closed so they remain detached from the audience. You can also tell them to imagine a curtain separating them from the audience. This makes them less self–conscious.

-- Say to the committee, “Ladies and gentlemen, at the count of three, sit up in your chair with your eyes closed and imagine that you are in a band. When you hear music, keep your eyes closed, and with them closed (compounding) play your instrument. You are competing for a $50,000 prize so play your best.”

– Compounding - This means saying the same command several times (usually three times) in different ways to make it more powerful. Notice in the paragraph above that they were told three times to keep their eyes closed. Use compounding any time you have concerns about the committee members not following your commands.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 54

– Play music and they perform.

Possible music choices:

– La Bamba

– William Tell overture

– Or tell them they are all piano players and play the Peanuts theme. Tell them that the piano is getting longer, shorter, higher, lower and they have to adapt.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 55

– Another possibility for a follow-the-leader skit is voodoo doll where they do what the doll does (play the “Day-O” song).

– Look for obedience and dismiss those who do not comply.

– When you dismiss someone, say to them, “Go ahead and enjoy the show from your seat in the audience. Thank you for coming up.”

– Or hot and cold. It's hot and then it's cold. Keep your clothes on. The room is 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120.

– Then 120, 110, 100, 90, 80, 70… 30 you have to huddle with someone to stay warm.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 56

– Everyone's eyes are closed the whole time, so the other committee members don't see dismissals. You did not want them to see other people being dismissed from the show, this could distract them.

– Say, “Ladies and gentlemen on stage 1, 2, sleep.” (Then they stop playing).

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 57

This diagram shows how to arrange your committee members on the stage.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 58

Module 12 Deepening Skit

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 59

– This is any skit that brings them to a deeper level of relaxation.

– Use fairy sleeping dust – sprinkle.

– Sleep gun – plastic or imaginary – shoot to sleep – not in schools.

– Happy pill.

– Alcohol.

– “Relaxing” cigarettes – adult version.

– Laughing gas (high school, company) they breathe it and the more they breathe, the deeper they go.

– Be venue-appropriate.

– After the deepening skit is complete, say, “Sleep!” (Fractionation combined with deepening).

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 60

Module 13 Show Skits

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 61

These are the main skits in your show, where most of the entertainment happens. The skits should last approximately 5 minutes each.

Group – Skits that involve the entire committee. Additional – Skits that you have ready in case you need to make your show longer. You can also eliminate skits from this to make your show shorter.

Phenomenon – These skits demonstrate hypnotic phenomenon in a humorous way.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 62

Group skits

– Voodoo doll- Whatever happens to the doll, happens to you (leg lift, arm lift, tickle, etc.).

– Body building contest- Everyone flexes and shows various muscles.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 63

Additional skits

– Walking on the moon.

– Juggling.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 64

Phenomenon skits

– Forget number – count fingers.

– Forget name – Until you hear happy birthday song then you sing the song with your name in it.

– Positive or negative hallucinations.

– Voodoo doll can be a phenomenon skit if, rather than just follow-theleader, you say that they will only see the voodoo doll and not you – the doll appears to be floating in the air.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 65

– You'll see me in a bathing suit or something else that would be funny.

– One person only speaks Martian. Martian talking and someone who speaks English and Martian interprets.

– Your shoes are puppies – take them off and pet them (This also becomes a convincer, because at the end of the show, their shoes are off and they wonder how that happened).

– Go to individual, and ask them what kind of puppy it is.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 66

Module 14 Individual Bits

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 67

Skits are done with the entire committee, but bits are done with individuals. You will choose certain people to perform certain entertaining bits or to react in a special way throughout the show. This is done by touching them individually and saying to them that when they hear a certain sound or when you shake their hand, touch their forehead or through some other activating stimulus, they will respond in a certain way.

Before – Install these suggestions before you get to the show skits. Install – You are installing the bits in individuals. Touch – Install them by touching one person at a time. Select – Select individuals based on their appearance.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 68

Examples:

– You have to dance when you hear this song (Play a song while installing this bit so that you anchor the bit to the song).

– Your belly button is missing and you realize it every time I say your name.

– You think someone pinched your butt every time I say your name.

– You lie when asked a question.

– You will sing everything instead of speaking it.

– You are a superhero.

– You love me.

– You have an urge to dance when you hear this song. (Play a song while installing this bit so that you anchor the bit to the song).

– You stand up and take a bow when you hear applause.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 69

Module 15 Energizing Skits

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 70

These are used any time you feel that the energy of the show is lagging. These skits cause the committee members to move quickly and they energize them. The audience is also energized by seeing this, so the energy of the show raises.

– Gets committee doing one skit after another.

– You are hot.

– You are cold.

– You are in a bicycle race.

– Uphill.

– Downhill.

– Making pizza.

– Milking a cow- faster, udders are tiny.

– Riding a horse more and more quickly.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 71

– You are a fish swimming in water- more and more quickly.

– You are auditioning for a movie- show emotions of happiness, excitement and other positive emotions.

– Do one skit after another in rapid succession. This gets them pumped up.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 72

Module 16 Post-Hypnotic Skits, Final Skit and Trance Termination

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 73

Post-Hypnotic Skits – Having someone get a post–hypnotic suggestion then come back on stage or yell, etc. after the show: Don't do this because show has already ended on a high note and this also creates a liability.

– Make them do things during the show only.

– For example, do not program someone with this suggestion, “When you get outside, you are going to enter your hotel lobby and yell, ‘I am the king (or queen) of the world.’”

– For the next two weeks, anytime someone touches you on the forehead, you will laugh hysterically.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 74

Empowering post-hypnotic suggestions

– You will remember having a fun time tonight.

– You will make positive changes in your life, whether you want to quit smoking, lose weight, etc., you will find solutions to these challenges.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 75

Final Skit 1. Grand finale.

2. A big group skit.

3. YMCA.

4. Rap song.

5. Or use current popular dance of the time. For example the Macarena would have been appropriate in the 90s.

6. The idea here is that you will have a large-scale full committee song or something of that nature which will involve everyone and be very funny.

7. You'll also trigger the individual bits during this time.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 76

Trance Termination 1. Remove all suggestions – Lost belly button, forgot the number two, etc. individually.

2. Must wake them up completely.

3. Affirm that they have done a great job. Validate their experience with a final round of applause.

4. Bring them back to the present. Say, "You are aware of the floor, the room, and the people around you."

5. Generically remove all suggestions. Say, “All suggestions are gone, all of your faculties are back. You had a great time here tonight."

6. Bring them up at count of three.

7. They all stand up and are all told how to exit stage safely. They are escorted off of the stage by you and your assistant and met by an usher as they re-join the audience.

Module 17 Lighting and Sound

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 79

Lighting – Dark with blue light during the induction.

– Can leave lights on during the induction if you need to.

– This diagram shows how to arrange your lighting on stage.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 80

Sound – Replace cordless batteries and replace cordless microphone batteries before each show.

– Make sure the audience and committee members can hear you clearly.

– Guitar Center is good – knowledgeable.

– Another option is a karaoke system with built in amps, CD player.

– No headset – makes it difficult to hear committee members in the microphone.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 81

– This diagram shows how to arrange your speakers and monitor.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 82

– Mackie 402 speakers should be 120 W each. Need two speakers for the audience. Need a monitor on stage so people on stage can hear you.

– Sennheiser cordless microphone – $50 to $250 price range.

– Bring two extra 120 W speakers for larger rooms.

– Get good quality gold-plated cords.

– If you do not have an audio/visual person, you can use an iPod, iPad or laptop for music. Have your music on a chair off to the side. For PC users, use Windows Mediaplayer or use CD’s on a laptop. You can also use a remote control.

– Run it all through mixer.

– Need amp for audiences over 150 people.

Module 18 Abreactions and Safety

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 84

Abreactions These are abnormal reactions such as crying, screaming or any other negative reaction to the hypnosis process. They need to be dealt with quickly, efficiently and with respect to the individual.

Remember STOP:

Safe – Reassure the person that they are safe. Touch – Do NOT touch the person. Orient – Re-orient them to the room through trance termination. Post – Follow up with them after the show.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 85

The best ways to avoid abreactions:

– Avoid any skit that involves regression – example 8 years old, etc.

– Do not make them any age other than the age that they were when they came to the show.

– Do not take them back to another era either as this can also trigger an abreaction.

– Avoid any skit based on phobias – bees, heights, airplanes, etc.

– Avoid negative suggestions – pain, discomfort, loss, or hostility. For example, don’t say, “Any time I say the word blue, you will think you are sitting on nails, etc.”

– If an abreaction occurs, put everyone else in a trance on stage, put the microphone in your pocket. Reassure the individual having the abreaction that they are okay and safe and say to the individual having the abreaction, “If you want to take a moment for yourself and rejoin us in a moment that will be fine. If you want to leave the stage, you can.”

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 86

– Count them up one – two – three and have an usher escort them to their seat or see if they can re-join the show (in less serious cases). Tell the audience everything is okay and that they are going to enjoy the show from their seat.

– Deal with situations quickly, with care, with respect and get back to the show.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 87

Safety – Liability insurance for performers: TheHypnosisCompany.com/safety SpecialtyInsuranceAgency.com

– Liability insurance and listing for performers: NameEntertainers.com.

– You may need to attend a live training and/or take a safety course online to qualify for liability insurance.

– Safety first – If there are unsafe conditions – Theater overcapacity, people too drunk to function, exposed wires, etc. do not do the show.

– Continue your hypnosis education. (Read books, go to live training, etc.).

– Get certified as a clinical hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner at hypnosiscertified.com so you can deal with more abreactions and answer more questions.

– Make the committee members keep both feet on the ground for safety while seated.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 88

Module 19 Notes

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 89

– You can do a two-host show. Just take turns hosting.

– Practice with imaginary people or teddy bears on a chair.

– Practice with friends.

– Ask for a round of applause after each skit.

– Remind them you sell DVDs of the show and hypnosis recordings on your website and in the back after the show.

– Make sure you are ready – Be confident and have everything memorized.

– If things get out of hand or reach a nice level, you can say, “Freeze!” It is understood by everyone.

– You must be polite, respond to people and ask if they are comfortable.

– Folding chairs are potentially problematic because committee members might get folded up in them.

– Use stackable cloth chairs about 16 inches wide with no armrests. They are available at bizchair.com.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 90

– Folding chairs can be used in the locked position if no other chairs are available.

– Stage presence is very important. You must command respect. A suit or dress can be very helpful in establishing this.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 91

Module 20 Review and Conclusion

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 92

– Make sure the room temperature is comfortable.

– As an alternative to wearing a nice suit or dress, you can also form your own image by dressing as a pirate, having red hair, or something unique.

– Lights should be on your committee members but not blinding.

– Sit in the audience to test for comfort, lighting and sound.

– Use your unique personality.

– Encourage pictures after the show for posting and tagging on Facebook and other social media websites.

– Stage presence is important. Men's Warehouse is good for suits for men. Separate and distinguish yourself from others.

– Remember that the committee members are the stars of the show, not you.

– Watch for safety issues and avoid risking people’s safety. Always ask yourself if someone can get hurt on stage and then correct the issue. If you are unable to correct the issue, do not perform the show.

– You can do a hypnosis show with people in their seats the whole time.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 93

– Do not have committee members go offstage to interact with the audience because they could trip or they could touch someone inappropriately.

– You must have insurance for bars and certain other venues.

– Make sure your music and jokes are appropriate for the age of the audience.

– YMCA is popular music for a closing, because everyone knows it.

– Take all of the info in this program and make it your own, adding your unique style.

– If an individual does not sleep when you tell them to go to sleep, go to them individually and say, “Sleep!” and push them to the side gently.

– If you send someone offstage, make sure someone helps them off stage.

Stage Hypnosis Training Program – Steve G. Jones, Ed.S. - 94

Back of Room (BOR) sales – Record all of your shows on video and sell them. Put them on YouTube and your website.

– 10 stack DVD burner will burn 10 DVDs in 10 min. Go to SandyYang.com for stack DVD burners.

– You can sell 5 to 10 DVDs at $30 each, every night.

– Corporate events may not want you to record and sell the show.

– Also let them know you sell CDs and do private sessions.
