Delaney Patterson 8/2/11 English 1 Reactions/Reflections to the quote/passage This has to be my favorite quote because this is exactly why the book is called: To Kill a Mockingbird. To Kill A Mockingbird have drama, sin, overcoming and passion. If I had to read this book again or recommend it to someone else I definitely would. Jem and Scout had a really strong bound because of them being family. Yet as close as they are they must grow apart at some time. Although in my mind they will never truly grow completely apart from each other. As much as Atticus tried he could do anything. Even though Tom ran away after he got the death penalty and then killed. I still fell as if he deserved to have something good happen to him; to me it was not right to give him the death penalty. I wish that there was something in the world Atticus could have done to help Tom. I really like this quote to because he wanted to show what true courage is. This is talking about a very brave act by a courageous, evil woman. You have to try hard to be really truly courageous, without all the things of this time to help you. To me not a lot of people show true courage now days, they rely on guns and knives and other things now day. I think she was mad because of what Calpurina said. No madder how mad I was I wouldn’t and couldn’t say that I would go out and kill myself. I would have been humiliated to get smacked and put in the kitchen to eat, but not even for Scouts reasons.

Scout is very proud of her father, and his courageous acts to protect her. Atticus is so nice to everybody even when he is mad. So when someone like Mrs. Dubose is being all mean it kind of makes me sad because Atticus doesn’t deserve that disrespect. It seems like to me that he wanted her to hear so he would know how much he loved and trusted her. Atticus I think wanted her to her also so that she would know his parenting style. And to me it seems like he doesn’t care what other people think of his parenting style. Tom Robinson was a negro who was found guilty. Jem felt very strongly toward the guilty verdict. Jem kept muttering, “it ain’t right” which in my opinion was the truth it wasn’t right at all. Atticus accepts his son for who he is and that to me is really sweet. He loves his son no madder what he does and that is really important to love people for who they are and not for who you want them to be. In my opinion “Aunty” should mind her own business.

It is very unusual for Atticus to give up but in this instance he does. He was trying to admit his son killed the other boy. Mr. Tate just was not going to listen to his nonsense at all.
