Concept of Learning
What is Learning? 1. Learning is inferred from PERFORMANCE. PERFORMANCE If there is no behavior to observe then we can’t say for sure whether or not learning has occurred. 2. Learning involves A CHANGE IN THE MENTAL STATE of an organism . Acquired knowledge must be coded or represented in the brain. 3. Learning stems from EXPERIENCE This distinguishes learning from instinct, which refers to behaviors present at birth.
02/11/16
TCLJIP_IPGKPP
Learning Knowledge acquisition “an experience which produces a relatively
permanent change in potential behaviour.” – excludes natural changes of behaviour due to biological growth, temporary changes due to effects of drugs or physical fatigue.
an inferred change in the organisms’ mental state
which results from experience and which influences in a relatively permanent fashion the organisms’ potential for subsequent adaptive behavior.

Types of Learning Formal Learning Informal learning Non-Formal Learning
Do you know the different of these learning? Give an example of each types of learning. 02/11/16
TCLJIP_IPGKPP
Formal Learning Organized, guided by a formal
curriculum, leads to a formally recognized credential such as a high school completion diploma or a degree, and is often guided and recognized by government at some level. Teachers are usually trained as professionals in some way.
02/11/16
TCLJIP_IPGKPP
Informal Learning No formal curriculum and no credits
earned. The teacher is simply someone with more experience such as a parent, grandparent or a friend. A father teaching his child to play catch or a babysitter teaching a child their ABC’s is an example of informal education.
02/11/16
TCLJIP_IPGKPP
Non-formal Learning Organized, may or may not be guided by a
formal curriculum. led by a qualified teacher or by a leader with more experience. Though it doesn’t result in a formal degree or diploma, non-formal education is highly enriching and builds an individual’s skills and capacities. Continuing education courses for example, attending conferences, seminars, short courses, training camp, colloquium, workshop and training program. Achieve short term learning purposes 02/11/16

Relationship between Teaching and Learning
Teaching is what teachers do, while
learning is what students do. Teaching and learning are a process that happened concurrently in the classroom Teaching is effective only when learning are effective and meaningful Teachers are responsible to ensure effective student learning in the classroom Teachers are accountable for student learning despite poor parenting, negative 02/11/16 TCLJIP_IPGKPP attitudes, and other social ills.
