Congo river – Africa Discovered in August 1482

The Congo river is located along the border of Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Congo River basin contains about 1,000 species of birds. It’s home to more mammals, birds and fishes and than any other part of Africa.

They fish in the Congo River. They use it for irrigation that can help water their peanut, organic cotton, tobacco, and sugarcane vegetation, all of which grow quickly because of the humid air.

There are approximately 40 hydropower plants on the river that utilize this power to provide energy for the African continent.

There is also a lot of tourism as the African tourism department is implementing it on full scale.

WHY DO PEOPLE LIVE HERE ??

Tourism • The incredible view that you get from Les Rapides, La Cataracte and other waterfalls sites next to the Djoue make your trip at Congo unforgettable. • Meeting fishermen along the coast who come out of these waters with tiger fish weighing about 180kg is just a rewarding experience for any tourist. • When it comes the sunset, you can enjoy the same fresh tiger fish as a very tasty meal served with cassava, fufu or plantains paired with a nice glass of wine or a cocktail, all this prepared by local Chefs who are experts on Congolese and French gourmet cuisines.

Hazards and dangers • The main hazards are the crashing or destruction of boats. • There have been a total of 350 plus deaths due to this. • There are also several crocodiles which can be life threatening. • There have also been instances where villages have been almost destroyed dur to floods.

Safety and precautions.

For the safety of the people there have been several steps taken by the government

The Inga Dams are two hydroelectric dams connected to one of the largest waterfalls in the world, Inga Falls. They are located in the western Democratic Republic of the Congo and 140 miles southwest of Kinshasa
