Introduction Goal setting is the key to success in all areas of life, so why do only 3% of people actually have written goals? I think it is because people are not really sure how to set goals or where to begin. Hence, the reason for this workbook! The 10 steps in this workbook will put you in a position where you will begin taking action toward the achievement of your dreams, but the forward momentum is up to you.

“Even the finest bicycle won’t move unless you pedal it.” – Tom Beaman Goals are important because they give you a direction in life. They create enthusiasm and they make you happy because you know you are working to make great things happen in your life. As you read the 10 steps and you start filling in the blanks, keep in mind that a balanced life is important. You should set goals in more than one area of your life. Here are the key areas of life that you should take into consideration. Financial Relationships Health Social Spiritual Let’s get started straight away with step one! "You will never win if you never begin." -Helen Rowland

Step One: Decide Exactly What You Want You must be clear about what it is that you truly want, as well as know the purpose for wanting what you are clear about! Clarity and purpose go hand-inhand. If you only have a vague idea of your goal, then how can you build a plan to reach it? Clarity is essential to success because, with clarity, you have total control over every choice you make in life. Now, every choice you make is easy because you know where you are headed. With each decision you confront, ask yourself “Will this take me closer to or farther away from my goal?” Goals must be in line with your personal values because you must feel good and true about the action steps you are taking to achieve your goals.

List 3 goals that are important to you. Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3.

What is the purpose of each goal? Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3.

Will there be any action steps required to reach these goals that are not in alignment with your personal values? Goal 1. yes

If you answered yes to any of your goals above, revise the goal so it will fit in with your values.

"So let your deepest desires direct your aim. Set your sights far above the 'reasonable' target. The power of purpose is profound only if you have a desire that stirs the heart." - Price Pritchett

Step Two: Write It Down This is a critical step. Only 3% of people write their goals down properly; so after you rewrite your goals, you will find yourself in this elite group. When you rewrite your goals, write them in a positive and present state; written as if the goals have already been accomplished. The reason you want to write your goals as if they have already been achieved is because your subconscious mind goes to work on them right away. Your subconscious mind awakens to the new “facts” and it now notices everything associated with this new state of being and brings new opportunities into focus.

Rewrite your goals from step one and write them in a present and positive state. Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3.

Examples:

I run 2 miles, 5 times per week, and I wake up refreshed every morning! I am debt free and it affords me the opportunity to spend quality time with my family every day. I make $150,000 annually doing what I enjoy. I am a straight A student.

Read your goals every night before you go to bed and every morning when you wake up. You will find yourself being happier and more energetic as you start working toward the achievement of your goals. In our goals mentoring program, we go into this area in great detail and share many more aspects on how to write your goals.

"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your mind. Put your whole soul to it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Step Three: Set a Deadline Goals are dreams with a deadline. In other words, goals without deadlines are merely wishes. Without a deadline, you may just go through the actions of daily life doing whatever it takes to get through the day, confusing activity with achievement. You can be very active by shuffling papers and not achieve anything of significance.

Set a deadline for your 3 goals. Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3.

"High achievers spot rich opportunities swiftly, make big decisions quickly, and move into action immediately. Follow these principles and you can make your dreams come true." - Robert H. Schuller

Step Four: Identify Obstacles Obstacles are barriers that may get in your way on your journey to reaching your goal. It is critical to know, in advance, what obstacles you may have to tackle. Knowing the obstacles you may run up against will help eliminate getting stopped in your tracks. Instead of hitting a brick wall, you will be aware that a wall may be erected in front of you at any time and you will already have a plan to go around it. Identify any obstacles you may encounter. Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3. What is your solution for each obstacle? Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3. Don’t let obstacles slow you down or stop you. Don’t lose momentum; you know the solution to go around that wall. In the goals mentoring program, we devote extra time to the subject of overcoming obstacles because this subject is so important and creating proper solutions is imperative. “Crystallize your goals. Make a plan for achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and other people's criticisms, carry out your plan.” - Paul J. Meyer

Step Five: Special Skills and Knowledge What special skill or knowledge will you need to acquire in order to reach your goal? You have the desire to reach a goal, but you may not have a specific skill that is required. Identify the skills that are essential and outline a way to obtain those skills. You must be willing to possibly step outside of your comfort zone and do something you have never done before. What one skill, if any, must you acquire to reach your goal? Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3. What steps are necessary to obtain the skill required? Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3. Break free of any comfort zone and embrace personal growth. Resolve to learn whatever it takes to reach your biggest goals! “Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I shall have the belief that I can do it. I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning”. - Mahatma Gandhi

Step Six: Identify Your Circle of Influence Choose to be with people who are optimistic and believe in you. Choose to be with people who inspire and motivate you. These are the people with whom you share your goals. Identify people who you can depend on and who will give you guidance. Find others you can shadow who will help you achieve goals. Find a mentor. Having a mentor or a coach will help you achieve your goals at a much faster pace. Fly with the eagles….. Family 1. 2. 3.

People who have achieved what you desire are paramount, because if someone else has already done it, you can too. Shadow that person, if possible. Mentors help you reach your dreams much quicker. They will catapult you toward achievement and they are there for guidance, questions and advice. "Keep away from small people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." - Mark Twain

Step Seven: Make a Plan and Organize It You know your goal and the purpose. You have a deadline and have identified the possible obstacles, along with the solutions. You are aware of the skills you need to acquire and you have a list of people that will be by your side or can help you achieve your goals. Take all of this into consideration and make your plan. What are the steps you must take? Goal 1.

"Successful people decide how they are going to live; they are not victims of circumstance. In good times or bad times, they know where they are going and they know that they are going to get there." - Bob Proctor

Step Eight: Take Action on Your Plan A plan without action is like a bike without wheels. Give your goals wheels and take decisive action every day. Plan each day by making an action list. Put a time next to each action on your list and follow through with it. Successful people work from written plans. It is said that for every 10 minutes of planning, you will save one hour every day. An even more important factor is that you will have a scheduled time to take specific action on a goal, which eliminates any question on when or what you need to accomplish that day. Plan the action step(s) you will take tomorrow on your goals. Plan at least one action step on at least one of your goals. Date: 1.

Step Nine: Visualize ‘Seeing’ your goals on a regular basis keeps them in the forefront of your thoughts. Pictures are an activator of the subconscious mind. Let your mind go to work! Hang pictures in your car, on your computer, or anywhere you spend time. Seeing is believing! Find a picture of your goal or write words that describe it.

Write where you will find pictures for each of your goals and where you will hang them. Goal 1. Goal 2. Goal 3.

"When you paint success pictures in your mind, you initiate an inner process whereby your attitudes, hopes, aspirations, and enthusiasm are elevated in response to an image of a more promising future. Every person who aspires must first sell themselves hope, the promise of a better life." - U.S. Andersen

Step Ten: Never, Never Give Up Persistence is a key factor in goal accomplishment. Why isn’t everyone persistent? Because persistence takes discipline and tenacity; you must be willing to pay the price and sometimes put everything else on hold. You must have the drive and determination to do what has to be done without giving in. You must figure out a way to overcome obstacles and unforeseen hurdles and to build a foundation for good habits. Believe in yourself; believe in your goals. Keep positive people around you and when you need someone to talk to, seek someone who cares. When you need advice, seek someone who can give you nonjudgmental, true advice; someone who has already accomplished great things that you want to accomplish. Have a mentor and converse regularly.

NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP! DO NOT QUIT!

"You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, what do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change." - Jim Rohn

Wrap Up Keep your goals close to you and read them every day. Add new goals as you achieve current goals and modify your goals as needed. Life and circumstances change and so will your goals. Never give up on your dreams. Chase them down with sure footed leaps and do not stop. Never give up! Thank you for accepting this workbook and feel free to share it with others.
