IRCC Releases Forward Projections for Immigration Regulations Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released a major announcement concerning expected changes to several immigration regulations. The changes, published in the Forward Regulatory Plan 2016—2018, outline anticipated reviews to existing conditions of various immigration programs. Read Full Article
Canada Needs Immigration to Balance Aging Population A new report from the Conference Board of Canada has found that immigration levels should increase to 413,000 per year by 2030 to strengthen Canada’s economic growth. The report highlights the need for increased immigration in order to respond to challenges posed by Canada’s aging population. It is projected that without significant policy changes, including a substantial increase in immigration, the costs required to support retirees could undermine the strength of Canada’s economy in the coming decades. David's Blog: Mother knows best I feel compelled to comment on the case of Maryam Monsef, Liberal MP and federal Minister of Democratic Institutions, who has been caught up in a story about the location of her birth 32 years ago. Monsef, an Afghan citizen who arrived in Canada aged 11, was born in Iran. She had previously believed she was born in her country of citizenship, Afghanistan. Her documentation had stated that this was the case — documentation that had been submitted by her mother all those years ago. Read Full Blog
