Diamond and T.C. Bits Global Geotech manufactures and supplies a complete range of diamond bits, casing shoes, reaming shells to suit all popular core barrels and casing types. These may be surface set, impregnated, sawtooth or in various PDC forms, depending on the application. Surface Set Diamond Bits These are mostly suited to soft formations or using low powered drills, as they operate more effectively than impregnated bits at low surface speeds. Available with different stone sizes, face profiles and waterway arrangements to suit different conditions. All supplied with the highest quality natural drilling diamonds.
Impregnated Diamond Bits Impregnated bits can drill a broad range of formations from the softest to the hardest rocks. Manufactured with very small, high quality synthetic diamonds, mixed evenly through a metal alloy matrix. All bits have T.C. and diamond gauge protection. Available in 8 standard matrix types to suit rock formation. Sawtooth Diamond Bits A very aggressive bit design for rapid penetration in soft to medium rock types. The teeth are shaped from tungsten carbide matrix, with their cutting edges reinforced with natural carbonado and West African type diamonds. These bits function in much the same way as T.C. bits but with much superior wear resistance.
PDC bits Polycrystalline diamond cutters are set on the crown giving a very long working life, very fast penetration and high percentage core recovery in soft to hard rock formations. The bit may be used with air, mud , or foam flushing.
Cube set bits These bits are set with thermally stable polycrystalline diamond cube-shaped cutters, forming a V-shaped cutting profile on the surface of the crown. These bits are extremely tough and will cope with massive or broken formations from soft to hard, high abrasive groups. Carbotec T.C. bits These bits consist of tungsten carbide fragments fused together to form a crown with multiple cutting edges. They are particularly effective for cutting in formations which are highly fractured or contain loose pebbles, where standard T.C., bits would be susceptible to chipping or impact damage.
Casing shoes and Reaming Shells Available in both tungsten carbide and diamond forms to suit most types of casing and core barrels.

CORE BARREL SELECTION GUIDE
CONVENTIONAL DOUBLE TUBE CORE BARRELS TT Series Core Barrels These are ultra thin wall core barrels available in diameters 46 and 56mm, suitable for underground mining operations. These core barrels require relatively light feed pressure and torque, which means that they cut effectively at high rotation speeds using lightweight diamond drills. T2 Series Core Barrels These are thin wall core barrels available in diameters 46, 56, 66, 76, 86 and 101mm, suitable for general exploration purposes. These core barrels have a relatively small cutting area and therefore permit rapid penetration, especially in harder rock formations. Water or mud flush is required. Designed for use in conjunction with metric casing. The TNW core barrel is the imperial size equivalent of the T2-76, virtually identical in design, but with a slightly smaller O.D. enabling it to fit into NW or NX casing. T6 Series Core Barrels The T6 series is a continuation of the T2 series, but of a sturdier design, and available in larger diameters, 76, 86, 101, 116, 131 and 146mm, suitable for general exploration purposes. Water, mud or air can be used as the flushing medium, but when using air, oversized bits and head couplings are recommended to allow sufficient space for the cuttings to clear. Designed for use in conjunction with metric casing. The T6-H core barrel is the imperial sized equivalent of the T6-101, virtually identical in design, but with a slightly smaller O.D. enabling it to fit inside HW or HX casing.
T6S Series Core Barrels These core barrels have a split innert tube and are intended for use in geotechnical work in very loose formations. The split inner tube combined with face discharge bits gives an undisturbed sample. Suitable for mud flushing and with minor modifications for air flushing. Currently the only sizes available are 116 and 131mm.
WF Series Core Barrels These are geotechnical core barrels, available in DCDMA sizes H, P and S. They are primarily designed for coring relatively soft formations using face-discharge core bits, with water or mud as the flushing medium. Problems may be encountered using these barrels in harder rocks due to the relatively large area of the bit face, which will slow penetration rate and cause faster bit wear compared to equivalent sizes in T2 or T6 series. The head design is rather primitive and the bearings are exposed to the flushing medium, therefore these core barrels need regular servicing and maintenance. They continued to be widely used largely due to clients wishing to specify hole and core sizes according to U.S. and U.K. standards.
CONVENTIONAL TRIPLE TUBE CORE BARRELS Triefus Series Core Barrels These are geotechnical core barrels, designed to maximise core recovery in soft formations. It is sometimes possible to obtain near 100% volumetric core recovery in the most undisturbed condition as is possible with rotary drilling. They are supplied with a third, split tube which is pumped out from the inner tube after recovery. Six standard sizes are available giving core sizes from 35 - 146 mm.
WIRELINE DOUBLE TUBE CORE BARRELS Q Series Wireline Core Barrels Wireline core barrels are primarily used when coring to greater depths, mainly because they eliminate the need to couple and uncouple the rod string each time the core is retrieved. An overshot device is dropped on a cable and directly couples onto the inner tube assembly, allowing fast retrieval of the core after each core run. Available in DCDMA sizes, A, B. H. Q. and P. A geotechnical version of the wireline system is also available in S size, giving cores in excess of 100 mm.
WIRELINE TRIPLE TUBE CORE BARRELS Triple Tube Q3 Series Wireline Core Barrels These are identical to the standard Q series barrels but incorporate a third, split inner tube. This can be pumped out of the inner tube after retrieval, allowing the core to be examined in its in-situ state. Generally used when high quality core is required in broken, fractured formations. The use of a third tube requires the bits to cut slightly smaller diameter core than standard Q series barrels.

412 DOUBLE TUBE CORE BARREL
The 412 core barrel is designed as an air flush core barrel, for coring soft formations, such as limestones, sandstones and coal measures. The large annulus between the outer tube and inner tube allows a large volume of air to be pumped through the core barrel for clearance of the rock cuttings. These corebarrels can also be used with plastic liners or mylar liners to form a triple tube corebarrel.

PARALLEL THREADED DRILL RODS
Parallel threaded drill rods are available in two series, DCDMA sizes AW - HW, and Metric sizes 42 and 50mm. Both series consist of a hollow steel tube with a box thread at each end. The tubes are connected by means of a coupler manufactured from hardened alloy steel. The rods are mainly used for rotary coring applications, and may connect directly onto the core barrel head, either with or without an adaptor. AW and BW rods are also sometimes used as SPT drive rods, although we would recommend using our specially designed SPT rods for this purpose, as they can better withstand the percussive forces generated during driving with a trip hammer. When choosing the diameter of the rod to be used for rotary applications consideration should be made of the diameter of the core barrel, and the annulus in the borehole around the rod should be minimized to generate sufficient uphole velocity of flush necessary to clear the cuttings. Rod spanner and hoisting swivels are available for each diameter of rod.

TAPER THREADED DRILL RODS
Taper threaded drill rods are available in DCDMA sizes AWY - HWY. The rods consist of a hollow steel tube with a box thread at each end. Male and female tool joints manufactured from hardened alloy steel are threaded to the tube at each end. This design gives longer life to the rods compared with parallel thraed rods, and facilitates rapid coupling and coupling using drill rigs with a break-out device.

FRICTION-WELDED DRILL RODS FOR DTH HAMMER USE
Friction-welded drill rods are ideal for use with down the hole hammers. The rods consist of a high-qiuality steel tube with male and female tool joints friction welded onto each end. The adavantage of friction-welding is that it forms a very strong bond between the tool joints and the rod tube, to easily withstand the stresses involved in percussive drilling. (Rods with threaded tool joints are not recommended for DTH drilling as they tend to "climb-over" the rod tube with continued use). The tool joints are specially surface hardened for increased wear resistance. Each tool joint has square spanner flats (see cross section).
The rods are available in 4 standard sizes with API type connections, and are provided with thread protectors to prevent damage to the rod ends during transport and storage Hoisting swivels are available for each size.

METRIC SERIES CASING
Metric casing is designed to be used in conjunction with metric series core barrels TT, T2 and T6 Series, The casing has integral pin and box threads at each end, and is made from a thinner but stronger material than the imperial sizes (W and X series). The internal diameter provides sufficient clearance for the respective sized corebarrels to pass down. For example, a T6-116 core barrel will drill a 116mm diameter hole which can then be cased with 116 casing. The the next core barrel in the series, T6-101 will then fit inside the 116 casing to continue coring to a greater depth.
Casing drive heads, and casing shoes in diamond and tungsten carbide are available for each size. When ordering casing drive heads, please specify drill rod connection required.

W SERIES CASING
Flush-jointed casing has integral pin and box threads at each end, and unlike the X Series does not rely on separate couplings to connect each length together. The heavier wall section provides internal and external mating shoulders for the threads to butt-up againts, preventing the threads climbing up under heavy torque loads. This is the most popular type of casing used in geotechnical applications. The internal diameter provides sufficient clearance for the respective sized corebarrels to pass down, e.g. HWF corebarrel within HW casing, PWF corebarrel within PW casing etc.
The smaller diameters B-H are manufactured from cold drawn seamless tubes, and the larger diameters P-Z from hot-finished seamless tubes, grade ST52 or higher. Casing drive heads, and casing shoes in diamond and tungsten carbide are available for each size. When ordering casing drive heads, please specify drill rod connection required.

X SERIES CASING
Flush-coupled casing uses separate couplings to connect each length together. The wall thickness of the coupling is slighthly thicker than the mid-body section of each tube, giving a lighter weight casing string but still the advantage of strength in the threaded section. The internal diameter provides sufficient clearance for the respective sized corebarrels to pass down, e.g. HWF corebarrel within HW casing, PWF corebarrel within PW casing etc. The smaller diameters N-H are manufactured from cold drawn seamless tubes, and the larger diameters P-Z from hot-finished seamless tubes, grade ST52 or higher. Casing drive heads, and casing shoes in diamond and tungsten carbide are available for each size. When ordering casing drive heads, please specify drill rod connection required.

AUTOMATIC TRIP HAMMER FOR S.P.T.
The Automatic Trip Hammer is designed for carrying out the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) to BS 1377: Part 9: 1990. SPT Drive Rods and a Split Tube Sampler are connected to base of the anvil, and driven into the ground by the falling weight.
The hammer comprises a drop weight of 63.5 kg and a pick-up and selftripping mechanism that ensures the weight has a free fall of exactly 760mm. The inner shaft acts as a guide on which the weight drops with minimal resistance and strikes the anvil squarely. The trip hammer is supplied with a Safety retaining bolt to prevent the weight from sliding when the hammer is not in use or during transport.

HEAVY-DUTY "TUFLOK" SPLIT TUBE SAMPLER
For Standard Penetration Test. This is a heavy duty version of the standard split tube sampler and is designed for taking soil samples at the bottom of a cleared borehole using the Automatic Trip Hammer and SPT drive rods. The split tube is held together with a ball valve adaptor and a hardened steel drive shoe. The ball valve adaptor prevents samples from being washed out of the sampler when it is withdrawn from the borehole. Basket retainers, trap valves and plastic liners are available as an option with this type of sampler.
The sampler is available in two diameters: 2" (to BS 1377 : Part 9: 1990 or U.S. ASTM Standards) and 3". The split tube is forged and heat-treated and has a large driving shoulder at the top end to prevent premature breakage under heavy driving conditions. The two halves of the split tube lock together by means of a step in the profile of the tube, thus preventing bowing of the tube. The threads are coarse, square type for quick and easy release of the drive shoe when necessary.

SHELBY TUBE SAMPLERS
Thin-walled "Shelby" tube samplers are used for soils that are particularly sensitive to sampling disturbance, and consist of a thin-walled stainless steel tube whose lower edge is chamfered to form a cutting edge. The area ratio is less than 10%. These samplers are suitable only for fine soils up to a firm consistency, and free from large particles. They generally give Class 1 undisturbed samples in all fine cohesive soils, including sensitive clays, provided that the soil has not been disturbed by sinking the borehole.
Shelby tube samplers are available in two standard diameters, 3" and 4", but other diameters can be manufactured by special request. The drive head contains a non-return valve to allow free exit of water and/or air above the sample. The sample tube is attached to the head by means of four screws

U100 SAMPLING SYSTEMS
These systems are designed for taking 100mm diameter undisturbed samples in clay and other soft formations. The sample tubes are each 18" long and are driven into the ground with a sliding hammer or other arrangement, via a bell housing incorporating an air release valve.
Two systems are currently available. The Standard System utilises steel or aluminium sample tubes, with a cutting shoe and optional corecatcher. The Plastic Liner System utilises plastic liners to retain the sample. The plastic liner is retained within a steel tube. Although this system reduces the overall cost of taking samples, the samples produces suffer greater disturbance due to the higher area ratio compared with the standard system.

GUS PISTON SAMPLER
This unique, air or water-operated piston sampler has been designed and extensively test proven in the field, yielding truly undisturbed Class 1 samples and high-production sampling. How it works: The GUS Sampler is assembled on a drill rod and lowered to the bottom of a clean, cased or self-supporting, borehole. A water or air swivel is attached with a hose line coupled to the swivel and the pressure pump. As the water or air pressure is applied at approximately 100 –600 P.S.I, the piston in the head of the assembly (16) forces the thin wall sample tube (1) into the soft underlying soil or clay materials to take the sample. Once the sampler reaches the end of its maximum travel, the water or air used for pressing exhausts through a relief hole, and returns immediately to the surface. This is a signal to the operator that the sample has been taken to its maximum depth. Depending on the materials being sampled, the sampling may take only a few seconds or as much as one minute to reach its maximum travel of 24” .
After the sample has been taken, the rods and sampler are pulled to the surface and laid out on trestles for removal of the sample tube. The sample tube is rotated in 3 turns is an anti-clockwise direction which releases the “ vacuum lock”created over the sample in the sample tube and allows for easy removal of the sample tube containing the sample. A new sample tube is then installed on the sample head and the procedure repeated. Advantages of the GUS Sampler: •Borehole diameter need not be larger than the sampler size in use. •Simple to operate –there is no need for actuating rods or complicated procedures. •Piston closes of sampler until sample is taken. •No need for hoses in the borehole. Water or air is delivered directly through the drillrods. •Drill rig is not necessary for sampling, however, hoist is required to lift tools and sampler from the borehole. •Inexpensive when compared to other types of piston samplers.
SHELL & AUGER CASING AND TOOLS
Strong steel flush jointed casing ideal for use in general site investigation works with cable percussion rigs. Heavy-duty drive heads and casing shoes with hardened bevel edge can be supplied with either male or female threads, depending on whether the casing is used in "pin-up" or "pin-down" position. A complete suite of tools is also supplied including bailers, claycutters, cross cutters (stubbers) and chisels for clearing out the borehole. These tools are ruggedly constructed for maximum service life.

“ GEOPRO”Inflatable Packers Global Geotech supplies a complete range of inflatable packers in nine different diameters from 28 –170mm. The inflatable sleeves are reinforced with two layers of steel cables embedded in natural rubber. The deflated packer is lowered into the drilled borehole and is then inflated with neutral gas or water injected through an inflation line. A borehole is thus isolated and hydrological tests or cement grouting works can be conducted in this area. Thanks to their modular design, all Geopro packers offer reliable and easy operation. Inflatable sleeves can be replaced in the field and single packers are easily adapted into double packers. To convert a single packer to a double packer just unscrew the sliding end SE from the single packer and replace it with the CE element. Complete the installation by screwing a standard sleeve S and a plug PL on the lower part of the packer. On all packer sizes of 56mm and greater, the CE element has a diameter identical to the whole packer assembly. This design makes the double packer ZI extremely robust and the external flush, particularly well adapted to micropile grouting and water pressure tests. In addition to standard packers, Global Geotech can supply special packers for different applications:
Packers for testing water wells Packers for wire line core barrels Large diameter packer for boreholes 275 –450 mm Impression or “ Print”Packers Pump packers for water sampling High pressure Hydrofracturing packers Plug packers for abandonment or recovery
Spare parts for packers and accessories such as inflation hoses, pumps and couplings are readily available
