PAPER 5

SPEAKING Parts 1–4 Time allowed: 14 minutes

PART 1 In Part 1 of the Speaking test you have 3 minutes to talk about personal information (5 minutes for groups of three). First, the examiner will ask you questions about your personal details. The examiner will then select one or more questions from any of the categories below. Introduction Where are you from?  What do you like about living there? Social life and friendship How often do you go out with your friends? (Where do you go?) Tell us something about your best friend. Do you feel you have enough time to enjoy yourself these days? (Why / why not?) How often do you go to parties? The daily routine Do you like getting up early in the morning? (Why / why not?) Do you try to have a big meal at lunchtime? (Why / why not?) Do you enjoy cooking? (Why / why not?) When is the best time of the day for you to study? (Why?) What is your favourite part of the weekend? (Why?) Media and entertainment How much time do you spend listening to the radio? What type of television programmes do you enjoy most? (Why?) Do you prefer to watch a film at home or at the cinema? (Why?) Do you prefer to listen to music on your own or with friends? (Why?) Are there lots of interesting things to do in your local area? (Tell us about them.) Home and family Do you talk to your neighbours very often? (Why / why not?) Do you eat at least one meal with your family every day? How would you like to improve your living room? Would you prefer to live in a big city or a village? (Why?) Would you like to live in another country one day? (Why / why not?) Education and skills Which subject do you wish you had studied harder at school? (Why?) Which school subjects do you think are most important today? (Why?) What other language(s) would you like to learn one day? (Why?) Does / Did your school ever organize any trips? (Where did you go?) FCE Test C Paper 5 Speaking Part 1

PART 2 In Part 2 of the Speaking test you will work with a partner. You will be given two photographs each and will have 4 minutes to talk about them (6 minutes for groups of three). You will talk about your photographs on your own for about 1 minute, and also answer a short question about your partner’s photographs for about 20 seconds. Work in pairs: Candidate A and Candidate B. Candidate A speaks first.

Candidate A Look at your photographs. They show people studying in different places. Compare the photographs, and say in which situation you think it might be easier to study. Talk about your photographs on your own for about a minute.

Candidate B Which place would you prefer to study in?

Candidate B Look at your photographs. They show different types of holiday. Compare the photographs, and say what you think are the good and bad points of each type of holiday. Talk about your photographs on your own for about a minute.

FCE Test C Paper 5 Speaking Part 2

PART 3 In Part 3 of the Speaking test you will talk about something in pairs for about 3 minutes (4 minutes for groups of three). You should express and justify your opinions, agree and disagree, make suggestions, speculate, evaluate, reach a decision through negotiation, etc. Imagine that a town wants to build a new park. Here are some of the suggestions for things they might include in the new park. First, talk to each other about how successful these suggestions might be. Then decide which two would attract most people.

FCE Test C Paper 5 Speaking Part 3

PART 4 In Part 4 of the Speaking test you have a general conversation with another candidate for about 4 minutes (5 minutes for groups of three). The conversation is based on the theme of the photographs in Part 3. You should discuss your likes and dislikes, your preferences, your opinions and reasons for them, etc. You should also respond to what your partner says.

Discuss the following questions. Would you like to visit a park like this? (Why / why not?) How important is it for towns and cities to have parks? What sort of parks are there in your town? Do you think it is important for children to learn about animals and plants? (Why / why not?) Do you think it is important to spend time outdoors? Why / why not? Young people and older people usually go to different places to relax. Why do you think that is? Do you think it is important to spend time outdoors? Why / why not?
