INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES APPEARING FOR TISS COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET), 2013-2015 ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2013. Important Note: Any infringement of the following instructions by the candidates shall entail disciplinary action including cancellation of the present Test and ban from taking Common Entrance Test (CET) in the future.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL THE CANDIDATES 1. Candidates are advised to be present in their respective exam room before 9.40 a.m. Those who report after 10.10 a.m. will not be allowed to appear for the written test. Candidates are advised to report to the Centre much in advance in order to check their seating arrangement and the location of building and exam rooms. 2. Articles NOT permitted inside the Examination Hall : • Please do not bring books, notes, loose sheets, any type of calculator, calculator watch, mathematical and drawing instruments, log tables, map stencils or slide rules inside the Test Hall. • Please note that mobile/cell phones, pagers or any other communication device are NOT allowed inside the premises where the CET is being conducted. Candidates are advised, in their own interest, not to bring any of these items to the CET venue, as arrangements for safekeeping cannot be assured / guaranteed. MOBILE PHONES ARE BANNED AT THE EXAMINATION PREMISES. 3. Conduct in the Test Hall Please read and abide by the instructions regarding the conduct in the test hall as given on the cover of the Test Booklet (for candidates giving offline exam) and at the beginning of the computer based (online) test. • No candidate shall copy from the paper of any other candidate, nor permit his/her papers to be copied from, nor attempt to give or obtain irregular assistance of any description. • If any candidate misbehaves or indulges in disorderly or improper conduct such as harassment of Supervisory Staff, he/she will render himself/herself liable for disciplinary action and will be permanently barred from taking the test and asked to leave the Hall. 4. Admit Cards without Photos Candidates who got their admit cards without photo should affix their passport size photos and get it 1

attested by principal of a college or headmaster of high schools or branch manager of any government‐ owned banks or doctors/advocates/engineers working with central/state government offices. Candidates carrying admit card without attestation on the photos will not be allowed to appear for the test. 5. Candidates who are Visually Challenged/Dyslexic • Candidates who are visually challenged/dyslexic will be given extra time of 20 minutes to take the test. • The writers helping them should not be a graduate and to prove their qualification, they should bring a bonafide certificate issued by the Principal of the college where he/she studies. • (Writers studying in engineering/architecture are not allowed to help) • The writers will be given token money by TISS as appreication for helping the Differently Abled candidates. 6. Reimbursement of travel expenses Candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC (NC) categories whose parents’ income is less than Rs.2 lakh and 1 lakh respectively during 2011‐12 will be reimbursed their transport cost. Other SC/ST/OBC candidates need not fill up this travel form as travel expenses will not be reimbursed to them. It is mandatory for candidates to submit the original tickets of the onward and return journey to be eligible to get the reimbursement, Travel Allowance form has to be posted along with a photocopy of Caste/Tribe/OBC(NC) Certificate, Income Certificate for the Financial Year 2011‐12 and the Original Tickets (onward and return journey) to the Section Officer (Social Protection Office), Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Post Box no 8313, V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai ‐400 088. 7. No candidate will be allowed to change their course during the CET as they have been informed of the courses they had chosen well in advance. Any candidate who finds a discrepancy in their choice of course listed in the Admit Card should intimate the TISS CARE immediately so that they can be sent a fresh admit card to their email ID within 24 hours. 8. The CET does not have negative marking. 9. Candidates coming without Admit Card or without supporting documents listed in the admit card will not be allowed to appear for written test. 10. Candidates must sign on the attendance sheet as it is the only proof to claim his/her presence in the test.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIATES APPEARING FOR THE WRITTEN (OFFLINE) TEST: 11. Articles permitted inside the Examination Hall: A clean unmarked clip board or hard board, two good quality HB pencils for marking answers on the OMR Answer‐Sheet provided along with the test booklet, eraser, pencil sharpener; and two blue or black ink/ ballpoint pen. 12. Please note that candidates taking the written (offline) test are only allowed to use HB pencils for marking answers on the OMR sheets. 13. Bubbling and Signature on Attendance List Candidates are required to write the serial number of the Answer Sheet (attached with the Test Booklet issued to them) on the Attendance List, to bubble their presence and sign in the appropriate column against their names. Any change or correction in these particulars should be authenticated by the candidate by putting his/her signature and countersigned by the Invigilator 14. Candidates will have to submit both the OMR sheet and question paper at the end of the exam to the invigilator. DESIGN OF THE WRITTEN (OFFLINE) TEST AND PATTERN OF MARKING ANSWERS

The Written Test:‐ The Written Test is common for ALL programmes. It is an objective, multiple choice test, with 100 questions to be attempted in 1hour and 40 minutes, and aims to test Quantitative And Numerical Ability, English Language Competency, General Knowledge and Social Sensitivity of the candidate. The Answers need to be marked on an OMR sheet. It will be given separately at around 9.45 a.m. to write various details on it. All candidates have to fill in answers ONLY on this sheet according to the given instructions. Please note that rough work may be done on the question booklet itself or on the last page (marked as Space for Rough Work) of the Test Booklet; no other space may be used for doing rough work. The specimen copy of the OMR sheets have been put up on TISS website for your reference. Before marking the answers on the OMR Sheet, candidates will be required to fill in various particulars on it. Other particulars like Question Booklet Series Number and Answer Booklet series should be written in the ATTENDANCE SHEET. (i) Before beginning the Test, make sure that the: 3



Question‐cum‐Answer Booklet (QB) / Question Booklet has a Serial number and questions are printed in sequence. If any question number or pages are missing please get it replaced by a new Question Booklet. • Write your Registration Number on the Test Booklet and the OMR Sheet exactly as it is in your Admit Card by pen/pencil. • Any correction or change in writing the Registration Number must be initialled by the candidates as well as by the Invigilator and countersigned by the Supervisor. B. Filling Up Answer Sheets 1. Written Test is multiple choice tests and where answers have to be marked on OMR sheets, please note the following: • Each question item will be followed by multiple options. You have to choose the option you think is the correct/most appropriate/best answer for that question. • (b) Mark the option on the OMR sheet with an HB PENCIL only. Please note that INK SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR BLACKENING THE CIRCLE ON THE ONE ANSWER SHEET. For example, if the correct answer to Item 1 is b, then the circle containing the letter b is to be completely filled in as shown below: Example: 1 a • • • •

Only ONE answer for each question must be marked. If you select more than one answer, the entire answer will be considered wrong. To change a wrong marking, it should be erased completely and re‐marked for the new choice. Please ensure that no are left after examining the pencil mark. Candidates should not write their name or anything other than the specific items of the information asked for, on the Answer Sheet/Test Booklet. Answer sheets MUST NOT be folded or mutilated or damaged by any extraneous markings. NOTHING should be written on the reverse of the OMR Answer Sheet.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIATES APPEARING FOR THE COMPUTER BASED (ONLINE) TEST : Singing in for the Computer Based (Online) test •Candidates taking the computer based (online) test are required to be present in the test hall/centre by 9.30 a.m. in order to log in to the test atleast 15 minutes before the test begins. •Candidates will have to log in to the test using the username and password mentioned on their admit cards. •After logging in, the candidates can view the set of instructions specific to the computer based (online) test. •For getting a better idea of the actual test templates, candidates can take the mock online test available on the TISS admissions website. Signature on attendance sheet Candidates are required to sign in the appropriate column against their names on the attendance sheet. Articles permitted inside the Examination Hall: Candidates taking the computer based (online) exam can bring HB pencils, pens for the exam for doing the rough work. They will be provided with papers to do the rough work while taking the exam.
