21-year-oldFelicity Marks is a busy young woman. In 2002 she spent four months teaching street children at The StreetAcademy school in Accra, Ghana. When she came home, she decidedthat she wanted to do more to help educatethe city's children. So, in 2003, she set up a charity called The StreetAcademy Annexe Project. In Ghana most parents have to pay to send their children to school, but The StreetAcademy offers free educationto childrenaged8-18, as well as uniforms, books and a decent meal each day. But the conditions are very basic. The building is a wooden hut with three different classesin the same room and no other facilities. The aim of Felicity's StreetAcademyAnnexe Project is to raise enough money to build a bigger school with at least four classrooms, toilets, a football pitch and an auditorium. So what has Felicity done to raise money for this ambitious project? She's done many different things: 'First we had a big party to launch the charity. Sincethen we've organizedquiz nights and online competitions,we've sold cakesand i've done sponsoredwalks and skydives.Other people have also helped raise money on our behalf which really helps'. So how much money has she raised and how much does she still need?'We haven't r a i s e de n o u g hm o n e yy e t ! We've receivedthe architect'splans and we iove them becausethey've taken the kids' ideasinto consideration. For examplethe windows are in the shape of triangles and stars!
