GENERAL This specification replaces the Piping Class Index section of Design General Specification No DGS-PU-003 Appendix 5 Revision 0.

1.1

PURPOSE This specification is intended for use as the Index for all Piping Classes.

CLARIFICATIONS The Piping Class Index has been modified to include Service Codes, and the Service column has been revised to include the latest philosophy concerning Low Severe Service (LSS), SOUR and TOXIC services. The following materials shall be purchased to NACE MR0103: (Note EPC Contractor to confirm and develop) All CS and LTCS material designated ‘LSS’. Stainless Steel type 316, 321, 347, 321/347. 1.25% Chrome 0.5% Moly. 2.25% Chrome 1.0% Moly. UNS S32760 Duplex Stainless Steel. Alloy 20 All valves in piping classes which include wet or dry H2S (50-3000 ppmw), or TOXIC (> 3000 ppmw), shall have soft seats/seals/packing etc. suitable for the specified services. Supplier to provide details at the bid stage. Pressure and temperatures have been fully rated for the class 150 and 300 classes except for sizes above 24”. Piping Class Numbers have been given a suffix ‘R’ to signify they are being developed for the Ruwais Refinery Expansion Project. New Piping Classes will utilize existing numbers for a similar service with the addition of suffix ‘MR’, e.g. 33020MR.

Note that piping classes shall be to the requirements of ASME B31.3 unless otherwise stated. For additional material requirements see Piping Material Purchase Specification (SPE Specs) 25418-1000-3PS-P000-P0016. The following services have not been allocated piping classes. Contractor to investigate if required and develop at the EPC stage. Breathing Air

Piping Classes for High Severe Service (HSS)

Bolting not meeting the requirements of Section 5 and Table 8 of MR0103 shall only be used on flanges or other parts that are not directly exposed to ‘Wet H2S / SOUR’ environments, and must be directly exposed to the atmosphere at all times (see Paragraph 5.2.1.1 of MR0103).

Flanges and Gaskets above those specified in ASME B16.47 for series ‘A’ (see below) shall be designed by the EPC Contractor: > 60” NPS >48” NPS > 24” NPS

Class 150 – 600 Class 900 Class 1500 - 2500

All CR (Neoprene) gaskets shall be suitable for 87°C minimum Design Temperature. Supplier to confirm at the bid stage.
