Timothy Kunsak Mr. Campbell Religion II 12/15/17 Saint Project: Saint Thomas the Apostle I have researched ten Saints whom were of particular interest to me. The one saint that made the cut for me, was Saint Thomas the Apostle. It wasn’t an easy decision however, I really like Saint Sebastian as well. This essay contains a little bit about Saint Thomas and why I chose him. Saint Thomas was born in Galilee Israel in the first century. He was one of the apostles of Jesus. If it weren’t for the fourth Gospel, we would know little to nothing about Saint Thomas. We learn that during the Last Supper, when Jesus said he would return after death, that Thomas had questioned him. Saint Thomas did not know what Jesus had meant. Saint Thomas said that he thought the other apostles should go with Jesus and to die with him. However, the other apostles did not want to do that. When Jesus did eventually die and Resurrect, Saint Thomas was not one of the Apostles that Jesus had come to first. The other Apostles came to Thomas and told him of Jesus’ resurrection. Saint Thomas doubted their claims. Hence his nickname, “Doubting Thomas.” It wasn’t until Saint Thomas saw Jesus himself and put his fingers into His wounds that he believed that Jesus had resurrected. I like this story, because I feel like in today’s times that people want concrete evidence or have the ability to see something with their own two eyes in order to believe it. I think that we should take a look at look at Saint

Thomas’s instance. If he never saw the wounds, he would have never believed. We need to have faith in and believe in God. We will be missing out a lot if we do not. The reason I chose Saint Thomas the Apostle is because of the personal and family connection I have with his name. To begin, Thomas is the middle name of my brother who had passed away when he was just three years old. The name Thomas means a lot to me, because it was his middle name. That is why I chose the name Thomas for my Confirmation name. The name Thomas is also my Grandfather’s name. I look up to my Grandfather and respect him and what he has done. My Grandfather started his own funeral home from the ground up, and that is where he continues to work and where my father works now. I have nothing but respect for my grandfather and his accomplishments. These reasons are how the name Thomas has personal and family importance to me. I hope you understand a little bit more about Saint Thomas, and why I chose him. I have a lot of personal connection to his name, and his story that gave him the name “Doubting Thomas” is very interesting. I feel like of all the Saint’s, he is the easiest to relate to. He had his doubts about the faith and Jesus’ return as I am sure many people do today. If you are having doubts or questions about the faith, I believe you should offer a prayer to Saint Thomas to help you understand a little better, and have 100% faith and belief in the church. Prayer to Saint Thomas Dear Saint Thomas, just as you had your doubts about Jesus’ return Pray for those who have their doubts in God That they may find their proof and belief just as you did

So that they may have a lasting relationship with Our Creator Amen
