ULTRA GRAVITY BOX

 T-289

The magician places a transparent plastic case onto the table, and encircles it with a piece of string. A spectator is invited to lift the case from the table, but mysteriously, the case does not budge. Seconds later, the magician is able to reach down and easily lift the case from the table. This miraculous case is too heavy for your spectator to lift, but you are able to easily pick it up. Upon seeing this surprising effect, other audience members will immediately want to try it for themselves. The secret behind this wonderful idea is the clever use of a scientific principle.

PROPS INCLUDED

Case

PREPARATION & THE SECRET 1 Fold the tab on the transparent sheet downward at a right angle.

Tab

2 Turn the case upside down. A rectangular indentation is located at the center of the case. Apply the double-sided tape to this indentation. Peel off the backing from the tape, exposing its upper surface. Next carefully place the transparent sheet onto the case bottom so that it aligns perfectly with the edges of the case. Be sure that the tab lies flush against the side wall of the case. Push firmly down at the center of the sheet so that the transparent sheet adheres firmly to the case bottom.

Magic Circle Plate

A sheet of protective paper is applied to the Magic Circle Plate. Please peel off this paper before performing. If you have difficulty removing the paper, apply a piece of cellophane tape to the corner of the plate, and rapidly pull upwards. This action should loosen the paper, and allow you to peel it off. Using a scissor, cut along the pre-set lines of the double-sided tape. The final size after cutting is 15mm x 25mm.

3 Place the magic circle plate onto a handkerchief, tablecloth, or other fabric surface. The non-printed (smooth) side of the plate must be facing upwards. Place the case onto the plate with the case’s opening pointing up. Position the tab at the inner right corner, pointing upward. Firmly press down on the center of the case with your finger.

Press firmly at the center with your finger

When you run out of the double-sided tape provided in this package, replace it with double-sided tape, available at your local office supply store.

4 Immediately try lifting the case straight upwards. The air pressure formed beneath the transparent sheet creates a suction cup effect. The case will adhere to the plate for a few seconds, and you can lift them together as a single unit.

IF THE CASE AND PLATE SEPARATE TOO EASILY If air happens to enter between the sheet and the plate, the suction cup feature will not function properly. The entire length of the double-sided tape must be firmly attached to the case’s rectangular indentation. In this condition, the center of the sheet will buckle slightly enough to ensure that air does not enter from the sides. The sheet will begin to separate slightly from the case, from the moment that it is first attached. In order to keep them flush, it is necessary to firmly press your fingers upward against the outer surface of the case, while pushing down with your thumbs inside the case. If you reinforce the attachment in this way right before performing this trick, you will ensure a firm connection that will enhance the effectiveness of the suction cup.

The length of time they remain attached depends on the condition of the sheet and the plate

5 Allow air to enter between the plate and the sheet, and the plate will fall free. You can also separate the case by sliding it horizontally off the edge of the plate.

6 During performance, a deck of cards will be placed inside of the case, and you will hold the plate down with both hands while the spectator attempts to lift the case. The difficulty your spectator faces in removing the case from the plate will appear as if the case is unliftable.

If this procedure does not improve the suction cup performance, gently remove the sheet (being careful not to crease it) and replace the tape with a new piece. Please note that any dirt or dust present on the sheet or plate can also cause air to enter inadvertently. Wipe down the sheet and plate with a clean handkerchief to improve the performance of these materials.

PERFORMANCE You will now learn an entertaining presentation using a deck of cards, and the enclosed piece of string. Please provide your own deck of cards, and place the entire deck into the clear case. If you do not have a deck of cards, you can fill the case with a stack of business cards, membership cards, employee ID cards, etc. Before performing this trick, place the case onto the table surface, and confirm whether or not you will need the magic circle plate. If you discover that you need the plate, place the plate onto the table along with the piece of string. You are now ready to start the performance.

1 Say, “I’ll show you some magic using a deck of cards.” Remove the 7 The following method will enable you to easily lift the case. To learn, first attach the case to the plate by pressing firmly. Once you have confirmed that they are attached, secretly press your right thumb against the tab as you lift the case. This small action allows air to enter between the sheet and the plate, breaking the suction. Continue pressing the tab with your thumb, and you will be able to easily lift the case.

upper lid from the case, and place it off to the side. Leave the deck of cards inside the lower half of the case.

2 Say, “I also need this red piece of string. You won’t believe this, but a strange and unusual power is formed whenever I wrap the string around it.” Display the string to your audience.

3 Place the case onto the table with the long edge facing you. The secret tab is located at the inner right corner.

4 Lay the string onto the table around the case, forming a circle with the case located at the middle. The purpose of the string is to prevent your spectators from sliding the case diagonally, and to encourage them to lift straight upwards. Press tab while lifting

8 Lift the case from the plate slowly, and it will appear more natural, and more magical – as if you are the only person able to do so. You now know the secret to this effect. If your performance table has a smooth flat surface, you will be able to present this trick without using the magic circle plate. Before you start, place the case onto your table, and confirm whether or not you will need the plate to effectively perform this trick.

5 Press the tab with your thumb, and lift the case straight up from the table. Say, “I’m going to place the case inside of this red circle. When I say ‘Now’ I want you to pick up the case and place it into my hand. You will have three seconds.” Hold your open left hand flat on the table, palm up, next to the circle of string.

Press down with your first finger

12 Remove your hand from the case. As before, count: “One, two, three. Now.” Your spectator will be unable to lift the case. Say, “But I can easily lift it.” Secretly press on the tab, and lift the case from the table.

6 Replace the case inside the circle.

13 Say, “For some reason, I am completely unable to experience this magic for myself!”

FINAL NOTES

7 Remove your right hand from the case, and wait 3 or 4 seconds until the air beneath the sheet has escaped completely. Say, “Ready? One, two, three. Now.” Count to three, and ask your spectator to lift the case and place it on your outstretched left hand. The secret principle will prevent him from being able to lift the case from the table.

This trick was created by Spanish magician Mago Inaki. Tenyo redesigned the special case to include an indented area that improves the suction cup functionality. We also created new choreography using the red string and the magic circle plate, and we refined the routine through countless live performances to actual spectators. This unique trick is an exciting addition to your magic repertoire. Practice it well, and use it to entertain your audiences.

ɶɶADVICE:

If you are performing without the magic circle plate, there is a chance that your spectator may be able to unexpectedly lift the case. This may occur if the suction breaks due to the surface condition of the table and/or the transparent sheet. If this occurs, there is a good chance that the ends of the string are no longer touching, having been bumped when your spectator lifted the case. Say, “Oh look – there is a small separation in the circle, and that gap caused the mysterious power to escape. Let’s use a magic circle that will increase the strength of this unseen force.” Show the magic circle plate, and repeat the trick once again, this time on top of the plate.

8 Say, “But I am able to easily lift this from the circle.” Secretly press the tab with your right thumb, and lift the case from the table.

9 Turn the case upside down, and show the bottom surface to your audience. Say, “There is nothing sticky on the box. Please feel it yourself.” Allow your spectator to touch the bottom surface of the box.

Arrange the deck so the bottom card is a picture card (J, Q, K) to help disguise the tape

10 Say, “Let’s try this again. Maybe there were too many cards inside the case.” Remove all of the cards from the case, but leave one inside. The reason for this single card is to prevent your audience from seeing the double-sided tape.

11 Once again, place your open left hand next to the red circle of string. With your right hand, place the case inside the tabled circle. As you place the case onto the table, use your first finger to firmly press downward on the center of the card. This action will ensure that the air beneath the sheet escapes fully.
