DR. ROHAFIZ SABAR 1. Safety Measures 

Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR) Safety measure for Sultan Abdul Halim Airport has the same procedure as

most of the airports in Malaysia. This is because Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is the one who coordinate all airport that cover 39 airports in Malaysia. Sultan Abdul Halim Airport has a CCTV security system to supervise the surrounding and operation within the airport area. Next, it also has an immigration check for checking purpose to ensure safety and security of the tourist and Malaysia citizens. It also has a luggage scanner to ensure that no illegal or dangerous items are being carried into the aircraft. This is very crucial since it can harm and threaten the safety of passengers in the aircraft. Besides, body scanner when entering the hall to ensure no dangerous items such as bomb, knife and etc can be brought into the waiting hall. Then, they also have Airport Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS) for emergencies purposes such as flight crash. AFRS also specially trains staff for airport emergencies. Besides, this airport also has Defibrillators (AED) that function to restore heartbeat by delivering electric shock directly to the heart. Lastly, fire extinguisher was also implemented that meet the fire department (JBPM) guideline to renew the safety of the airport. 

KXP Airport Safety measure of KXP Airport cannot yet to be confirmed since the

airport has not yet been constructed. But, almost every airport in Malaysia are implementing the same security system and procedure since it is under the Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB). We can expect that KXP Airport will have the same security measure as in Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR). First, they will have the CCTV security system to supervise the surrounding and operation within the airport area. Next, it will also have the luggage and body scanner to minimize the threat of the passenger. Airport Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS) is a must in every airport in case there is emergencies happen within the airport area. Lastly, fire extinguisher will also be provided inside the airport area in case there is a fire happen inside the terminal.

2. Law and Legislation These two airports were managed under Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB) so they will use the same things as the other airport in Malaysia. Among the legislation are Civil Aviation Regulations 2016, Civil Aviation (security) Regulations 2019, Civil Aviation (Aerodrome Operations) Regulations 2016, Civil Aviation (Fees and Charges) Regulations 2016, Malaysian Aviation Commission (Aviation Services Charges) Regulations 2016, Malaysian Aviation Commission (regulatory Services Charges) Regulations 2018, Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016 (“Consumer Protection Code”) and Minister of Transport Directives 2016.

3. Air Traffic Forecasting 

Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR) Sultan Abdul Halim airport (AOR) only has one runaway for takeoff and landing purposes and three gates. However, the military force also using the runaways so there will be delay in takeoff or landing if the military want to use it. Based on the table I have found, Alor Setar airport has made a forecast about their maximum capacity for passengers for the next 36 years. In 2056, they have forecasted that can be reach the maximum total of 653895 passengers and the forecast for aircraft movement is around 5927.

KXP Airport Kulim international airport will have two runaways, sitting on a 17sq km piece of land at the state’s border with Penang. On the important of having two runaways, it enables 1 aircraft to takeoff or landing per minute. So, the KXP airport can operate up to 60 flight movement in terms of landings and takeoffs per hour. It is ideal for clockwork efficiency in managing both cargo and passenger flights. Since KXP Airport is an international airport, so there will be two types of passenger which are domestic and international passenger. Plus, the type of aircraft such as Boeing and Airbus will mostly prefer to use the airport services. There will be a massive amount of passenger per year such as business passenger, economy passenger and low-cost passenger.

4. Surface Access Surface access can be referred to all the ways in which passengers, visitors, employees and commercial traffic travel to and from the airport when they are not in an aircraft. In my own words, surface access is the connectivity of the road to the terminal. In other words, surface access is the connection to the airport terminal. This includes travelling to or from the airport by using public transport such as train, bus, coach, private car, taxis, walking and cycling. 

Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR) Surface access is a pressure on airports to encourage passengers and staff to make greater use of public transport. Sultan Abdul Halim Airport can be accessed by using taxi and private car and park and drive facilities. All of this public transport offers the shuttle service to the airport.

KXP Airport KXP Airport have not yet being constructed, thus there will be no concrete information about the surface access of this airport. But, there is a justification given the CEO of KXP AIRPORTCITY HOLDINGS which is Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ir. Annuar Mohd Saffar saying that the airport can be access by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) that connected from Sungai Petani to Kulim International Airport. To facilitate this demand for the new airport, an initiative such as constructing a new highway that connect the Kulim International Airport from the second Penang bridge. This airport also can be accessed by using public transportation such as taxi, bus and also by using private vehicle.

5. Wayfinding and Navigation Planning Wayfinding refers to information systems that guide people through a physical environment and enhance their understanding and experience of the space. Wayfinding is particularly important in complex built environments Navigation is defined as the act or process of planning out a route or directing the travels of a boat, ship, car, person etc. When a GPS device plans out your route and tells you where to go and when to turn, this is an example of GPS navigation. 

Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR) There was various type of wayfinding systems in Sultan Abdul Halim Airport. The first one is signage. Signage is the design or use of signs and symbols to communicate a message to a specific group, usually for the purpose of marketing or a kind of advocacy. A signage also means signs collectively or being considered as a group. The colour of the signage was also important to attract people attention and aware of it. Signage helps people to move or reach to their desired destination within the terminal. Figure 1 below is the example of signage in Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR).

Figure 1: Signage in Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR) The navigation planning that people can use to reach the airport is by using the Global Positioning System (GPS), Waze, Google Maps and etc. All of this can be used effective and efficiently as a navigation tools to the airport.

Other than that, signboard along the highway could also be used to as a navigational tool to reach the airport. 

KXP Airport This airport has not yet been constructed so the wayfinding system cannot yet be certain. But, most of the airport around the world are using the signage system to helps navigate people inside the terminal. Due to the large space of the KXP Airport terminal, it will be difficult for passengers to move or go to their desired location. As because it is a new airport, passengers might have the possibilities to get lost when travelling inside the airport because they are not familiar with the new surroundings. Signage system will help to provide information such as directions to the passengers. The navigation planning of this airport will be the same as navigation planning to Sultan Abdul Halim Airport. The navigation planning that people can use to reach the airport is by using the Global Positioning System (GPS), Waze, Google Maps and etc. All of this can be used effective and efficiently as a navigation tools to the airport. Other than that, signboard along the highway could also be used to as a navigational tool to reach the airport.
