Abstract • The aim is to design and develop a control system based an electronically controlled automatic head light controller by using LDR Sensor is called “AUTOMATIC HEAD LIGHT DIM/BRIGHT CONTROLLER with over heat alarm”. • Automatic head light dim/bright controller is consists of LDR sensor circuit, Control Unit, Dim/bright light and frame. The sensor is used to detect the opposite side vehicle (Light Beam) on the path. There is any obstacle on the path, the sensor senses the obstacle (Light Beam) and giving the control signal to the Dim/bright Light.

INTRODUCTION Driving the highway with your high-beam headlights can really increase your visibility, but can be a blinding hazard for other drivers. This project can be wired into your headlight switch to provide automatic switching between high and low beam headlights when there is oncoming traffic and control the brightness. It does this by sensing the lights of that traffic. In this way, you can drive safely with your high-beams on without blinding other drivers.

Working This project is built around the popular arduino microcontroller. Automatic headlight brightness contro circuit switches brightness the headlight from high beam to low beam when light from oncoming vehicle strikes the LDR of the vehicle. It holds the lights on the upper beam until the vehicle approaches from the other direction with increased brightness. Also the moment the car passes by, it shifts automatically the headlight back to upper beam with lower brightness. Then temperature can measure engine heat and display warning alert using 16x2 lcd display.

Arduino • Arduino is an open-source hardware and software company, project and user community that designs and manufactures singleboard microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control both physically and digitally.

Head Lamp • Bike lights works the same way as other electrical lights works. Depending upon which type of light source it may use different principle for generating light. Most common is incandescent light bulb which is common light bulb having a “filament” increasing resistance of passing electrons through it so much that it start burning and giving light as bi-product.

Relay • SPST(single pole single throw)switch • One-way switch. • A simple on-off switch: The two terminals are either connected together or disconnected from each other. An example is a light switch

LDR-Light Dependent Resistors • A Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) is also called a photoresistor or a cadmium sulfide (CdS) cell. It is also called a photoconductor. It is basically a photocell that works on the principle of photoconductivity. The passive component is basically a resistor whose resistance value decreases when the intensity of light decreases. This optoelectronic device is mostly used in light varying sensor circuit, and light and dark activated switching circuits. Some of its applications include camera light meters, street lights, clock radios, light beam alarms, reflective smoke alarms, and outdoor clocks.

Temperature Sensor • The DS18B20 temperature sensor is a 1-wire digital temperature sensor. This means that you can read the temperature with a very simple circuit setup. It communicates on common bus, which means that you can connect several devices and read their values using just one digital pin of the Arduino.

Advantages • Prevents accidents • Immediate indication of engine over heat so increased lifetime

Disadvantage • When we drive the vehicle fitted with automatic dippers on a road in which different types of vehicles and hence varying light intensities cause frequent flickering of Headlight • This is only useful on highways and straight width roads

Applications • • • •

Used in cars Twilight switch Road way lighting Building perimeters lighting

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS • HARDWARE: – Atmega Microcontroller, Relay Driver IC, LCD, Relay, Lamp, Temperature sensor, Capacitors, LED, Diodes, Voltage Regulator, . • SOFTWARE : – Arduino Compiler – Language: Embedded C or Assembly

CONCLUSION • Use of these automated head lights results in convenience to the driver while driving at night. • The same principle can be used is automatic street light so that manual switching is avoided.
