Copyright (198)) by Al Mann Exclusives An unbelievable test with a book! Any person chooses any word from a book and the Mentalist divines or predicts the word! Even more unbelievable are the conditions! The spectator holds the book in his own hands and has an absolute free choice of aflY word on any page! The Uniword! The Mentalist stands several feet away or across the room and never approaches the spectator! THE GIMMICKI You have received a hard cover book of many pages. Leafing through the book you can see many words and everything appears normal. However, the book is gimmicked and has been specially printed. The book has only two pages, left hand page and right hand page, plus the first page of chapter I and the last page. A closer look at the right hand page will reveal that it contains only four words in different combinations! Thes e words are , ")\ ction louder than words. You will b e amaz e. d that very few persons can detect that the ri ght ha nd pa ge :i s made up of only four words. The printer that s et th e type di g not r ealize it until he was told! II

Cons i de r i ng thqt the spectator is given a free choice of any word, and that he sees many words on the pages facing him, the c onte nt s of th e r est of the book a r e not given any importance in the mi nd of the person doing the choosing. You ha ve also r eceived an index card with a tiny window. THE PRESENTNrIONI l\fter proposing a test with a book, give the ind ex card to the spectator and t ell him to stick it anywhere in~o t he book and to open the book so that both pages, left and ri ght are facin g him, and caution him not to let anyone els e se e th e pa ges . Next instruct him to take the index card and rotate it about the right hand pa ge and to stop at any word that he can plainly s ee through the small window. Now yOU say, "Please choose a word of about from three to seven letters. Do not choose a very long word. I want you to be able to see the entire word through the win dow so that it will impress itself on your mind." Of course t here are no words longer than six letters o )~ nhorter that four, but no one knows it but you.

THE UNIWORD

Assuming that the persqn has chosen the right hand page and that he or she have chosen a word, you then proceed to read their minds. You say, "Right away I get 'the impression of a round letter. II letter "0." Does your chosen word contain an "O'?" Chances are that it does; since three out of the four words do. If he says No! then you know it is the word 'than,' and you say that then the word must have an 'a' in :.i ttl I

If he admits that the word does contain an '0,' you continue by saying, "I also see the letter 'd. ,,, If he admits to edt' then you know the word is either 'louder' or 'words.' etc. Then' you say, "You have chosen a word of more than five letters, right?" etc, NOTEI If the person is right hand ed, he or she will invariably c hoos e t he ri ght hand page. You can also induce the choice of the right hand page by ges t ur i ng with another book and card and indicating with circu l a r move ments what they are to do on the right hand page . THE LEFT HA ND PAGEl This page is ungimmicked and contains many words. It is this page that adds to the illusion making the boo k appe ar normal. I f t he person choose s the l eft hand page, then you must proceed wit h the one a~ead system. Give the person a free choice and say "Before you p i ck a ,wor d , I am going to write down a word on this card. " Then you show a blank busincess card and then write the word s p "The two words chosen will be, 1. and 2. . " and si gn your name 'at the bottom. Flash the': card.rt o the audience to show that you have written a mes s a ge . . ~ft er th e person chooses the word tell him or her to call it out so that the audience can hear it. Then say, "Now Please c hoose a word from the right hand page." The n you f ind out the second word by pumping but do not tell t he chosen word but say, "I am going to write the word here also before you call it." 'l'hen you write the first word called next to line 1. and then say, "And I am going to sign my name to mak e it off i c ial , " But instead you writ e out the second word. Then pa s s t he card out to anot her member of the audience and t ell t hem to re ad what you have written! End of Miracle. RULEI ~l w a y s take the book back fro m the audience as soon as t he words a re ch os en. Never leave the book in their hands. RULE II: ~lways treat the book as unimportant. Make believe t hat it just happen to be handy and of no further value. Put it away!

Mentalists have createq'a sensation by discovering a mistake in a book (mathematics, tor example) or telling the audience that the chosen page has a misprint, or blotch. In UNIWORD, this principle can be used to also create a sensation, as followsl In presenting UNIWORD the spectator only sees two pages, the left hand page and the right hand page that faces him as he opens the book. He has been given a free choice, of course, of opening the book to any page by sticking a card anywhere in the book. Patterl "You have chosen a page freely, and from where I stand I ~ave no idea what the page looks like. But as you look at the book you see many words, both on the left hand page and on the right hand page, correct? Good so please .show the pages to the audience. Just a flash, thank you." , "As you look at the left hand page, I am going to try to sense its contents. Pl ease look only at the left hand page . -- I sense that there are at least four paragraphs plus I also see some quotation marks on the bottom, am I correct? "I will not try to tell you the exact words at this time, but I can sense certain aspects of the pages you are looking at. Let's try the right hand page. There are at least three paragraphs there correct? Oh! Oh! I also sense a printer's error, a mistake or misprint or blotch on the lower right hand corner of the pagel Corr ect? Pl ea se "t el l the audience in a loud voice that I am corr ect. Thank ~ou. : Now let's try for a single word. Please notice that the -index card you are using has a little window s o pl ease rotat~ the card over the right hand page and stop at any word you .c hoose . Do it quickly, please. You have a word? Go od pleas e concent r ate on it and memorize it. Close the book a nd write your word on this slate so that the audience can s ee it But do not let anyone see it yet." Take the book a wa y from the sp ectator . Then follow s t he pumping for the correct word which you write on another slate a nd then both slates a r e shown, for the dramat i c cl i ma x ! As ca n be se en, th e Ublotch' gives room for much dramatics. UN IWORD is a ls o availabl e without the Blotch. Write me about it i f you are int ere st ed , Only 40 books have be en printed so far with the 'blotch' so thos e of you who get it may be fortunate. ~VER allow anyone to riffle the pages of the book.

EFFECT. A word chosen from a book is found predicted in a sealed envelope locked- inside the Psychic's zipper pocket of his walletl METHOD. The most direct! Get four lightweight cheap wallets, the ones that sell for a dollar or two in the marketplace. Get some that contain a zipper pocket for best effect. Each wallet predicts one of the four words of Uniword. The predictions are written in a long message and sealed in a coin envelope and wax sealed. THE PRESENTATIONI Do the Uniword book test and tell the spectator to callout his choiGe. "That' is your choice?" you ask. Take back the book. Then take the book and show the audience that there are hun'dreds of words on the pages and that the person .had a free choice! Then say, "I want everyone to notice what I have locked in the zipper compartment of my wallet." Then take out the correct wallet, open it and show the zipper pocket and that it is closed. Say to the spectator, "Please take my wallet and open the zipper and take out a sealed envelope in. side. Open the envelope but please notic e that it is officially s ealed with wax and stamp." "Please read the message in the envel ope so that everyone can hear. " The effect is most profound, Gentlemen, so take advantage of it. , ~n a l t er na t Lve method to the above would be to display a single wallet from the "beginning. That can only be done with the DiploMental Pouch. Or use two double envelopes in a Himber type wallet! Or use two , double coin envelopes inside a double letter envelope. .' . But, the above effect done with four wallets is the most direct. The reason is that no one will imagine that you carry four wallets simply because they have no reason to imagine it or that you carry one hundred wallets. Bear in mind that the audience imagines that they had a choice of any word in hundreds. It is
