25 Killer Mixolydian Rock/Fusion Licks Foreword Welcome to my second installment for the Killer Rock/Fusion Licks HD Video Packages! First of all I’d like to thank you for purchasing this product and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, putting this all together. With all of these licks, I’ve tried to make them as modern as possible in terms of the genre rock/fusion. I’ve split it up over three backing tracks included in this package, so we’ll be playing 7 licks over an A7 groove, 8 licks over an E7 groove and 10 licks over a G7 track (again, 3 of our favorite keys as a guitarist!). The reason I chose the Mixolydian mode as a follow up to the Dorian mode (in the first package), is because I feel that again, it’s a scale that most people are quite comfortable with, and it defines the fundamental sound of the rock/fusion genre. Whilst some of these licks may borrow elements from other scales and different harmony, I want you to be able to apply these to other musical situations whether that is playing live, or playing over different backing tracks from those provided in this package. Within this booklet you will find all of the transcriptions for each lick, with a guideline of what I find most comfortable in terms of the right hand. Most of the licks involved require an intermediate level of technique, so a good level of legato playing, hybrid picking, sweep picking, and even alternate picking is necessary. For every lick, I put together a quick video run through of the lick played slowly, and my thought process on fretboard visualization. For left hand fingerings, I advise you to watch these, as sometimes I don’t play it the same way twice. If you have any questions with regards to this package, or if you’re interested in taking one-to-one Skype lessons with me, please do contact me at my website (www.jack-gardiner.com). I’m hoping to put together many more of these in the future, so even if you have a suggestion or an idea, it would be most appreciated! Thanks again, Jack Gardiner
