WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE Right, first of all I need to say that this book won't be able to make you an instant 'Paul Brook Style Mind Play Person’. It has taken me years to cultivate my skills and knowledge of psychology to the point where I can produce this unique form of entertainment. What I can do is to teach you a way to read minds without you having to practice and learn for years. I think the best way to proceed is to actually show you. So follow along and do these things:

PICK A NUMBER BETWEEN 1 AND 10

MULTIPLY IT BY 9

5

IF IT'S A 2 DIGIT NUMBER, ADD THE TWO DIGITS TOGETHER

NOW SUBTRACT 5 FROM YOUR NUMBER

WHATEVER NUMBER YOU ARE LEFT WITH CORRESPOND IT TO A LETTER OF THE ALPHABET: 1 = A 2 = B 3 = C 4 = D 5 = E 6 = F 7 = G 8 = H etc. 6

THINK OF A COUNTRY THAT BEGINS WITH THAT LETTER

TAKE THE SECOND LETTER OF THAT COUNTRY AND THINK OF A LAND ANIMAL THAT BEGINS WITH THAT LETTER

THINK OF THE COLOUR THAT THIS ANIMAL NORMALLY IS

THAT'S STRANGE BECAUSE THERE ARE NO 8

HOW TO DO IT As you can see this is a good approximation of mind reading. It feels like you have a genuine free choice to select anything you want from start to finish... that's because you do. Another reason why this is so powerful is that it all happens in the person's mind. The thought never leaves their head until it is mentioned by the mind reader. So how is it possible for the mind reader to know what the person is thinking of? The answer to that lies in something that you may not have thought about much since your time in school. That is that any two digit number on the multiplication table of nine has a special property. If you add both of the digits together they will always total nine.

10

Paul Brook – Learn to Play with Minds

2 x 9 = 18

1+8=9

3 x 9 = 27

2+7=9

4 x 9 = 36

3+6=9

5 x 9 = 45

4+5=9

6 x 9 = 54

5+4=9

7 x 9 = 63

6+3=9

8 x 9 = 72

7+2=9

9 x 9 = 81

8+1=9

10 x 9 = 90

9+0=9

This allows the mind reader to know that after this initial step the end number will always be the number nine.

Of course the person does not know that you are aware of this. You ask the person to subtract five from their number. Which we know to be nine. Therefore, bringing their total to four. This means that the person will be thinking of the letter 'D'. Now, there is a strange thing about countries beginning with the letter 'D', there are not very many of them. Most of them are more obscure than Denmark, which means that over 99% of the time Denmark will be the country thought of first. Obviously, this allows you to know that the second letter will be 'E' and that the animal will begin with that letter. By saying 'think of a land animal that begins with that letter' you are psychologically pushing the person to think of an elephant.

Of course elephants are usually grey in colour. Which leave you to reveal that there are in fact "No Grey Elephants in Denmark!" Before you go out there and begin reading the minds of your friends, family and colleagues here are some general pointers to remember: 

Learn the words that I outlined above by heart, as they are generated to psychologically maneuver the person away from the obscure choices and toward the desired outcome.

When people ask how you did it, don't tell them. Act cool and they will want to know more. Just change the subject and let them remain amazed.

Telling people the secret will just disappoint them. When they are unsure of how you did it they will feel like you have read their mind. This is a wonderful feeling, and much more impressive than what has really happened. No matter how much they ask you, don't tell them.

Don't repeat this piece of mind reading process for the same person, or same group of people. If you repeat the process, it increases the chances that someone will discover the secret.

If you want to use this more than once with the same person, why not work out other countries that you could use, and change the calculations to force the letter you wish.

Once you know the secret it may seem obvious and when you perform the mind reading you may feel it is obvious to others. This is not the case, most people are completely baffled by what you have just learned, even very smart people. Treat it seriously and as if you are able to really read their mind. When you do this, always bring out your acting side to play.
