Andrew Lawton Host, the Andrew Lawton Show 380 Wellington St., Suite 222 London, ON N6A 5B5 519-931-6098 [email protected] August 29, 2016 The Honourable Kathleen Wynne, M.P.P. Premier of Ontario Legislative Building Queen's Park Toronto ON M7A 1A1 Dear Premier: When we spoke last on my radio show, you were kind enough to address some of the concerns Ontarians have about the rising costs of living—from hydro rates to taxes. I have one to add: vehicle fees. Though my birthday isn't until October, I decided to get a head start to save myself $12 by renewing my license plate stickers this week before the increase to $120 (a 62 per cent hike over the last five years, not that anyone is counting.) Even though my Drive Clean emissions test, which I purchased on Oct. 8, 2015, is under its one year expiration over a month, I was informed after waiting for 45 minutes at a ServiceOntario location and another 20 minutes on the phone with Drive Clean that the one year expiration is not measured from when you purchase it, but rather from when the sticker goes into effect. Now I understand rules are rules, but can anyone be expected to follow them when they're never explained and they’re rather silly anyway? This is a difference of six days—hardly keeping with the spirit of the program. I will need to get another emissions test done, at a cost of $33.90, and as I’ll be unable to get this all sorted out before Sept. 1, I’ll be subjected to the sticker fee increase, setting me—an Ontario taxpayer— back $45.90. I've enclosed an invoice with this letter. In the spirit of generosity, I’m not billing for my time. I require payment by Oct. 14, so if you want to slip a cheque in my birthday card that would be fine. If I don't receive payment by then, I'll tack on hydro overcharges as interest. Yours sincerely,

Andrew Lawton
