Doug turns one card into another with a wave of the hand.

THE SPREAD CHANGE By Doug Edwards Here's my favorite Color Change! It incorporates a unique beveling action I designed which hides any tell-tale flash of the lowermost card as it's being "stolen." And because of this bevel, the card is practically in your awaiting hand as the turnover of the deck is completed. Used as a change or as a secret palm this handling is hard to top.

The deck is in dealer's grip in the left hand. The right hand moves over the deck, the right first finger and thumb taking hold of the left top and bottom corners of the deck. The opposite side of the deck rests on the left second, third and fourth fingers.

The right hand revolves the deck to the right which causes the edges of the side resting on the left fingers to bevel so the deck is evenly spread from top to bottom about one inch.

The right hand covers the beveled out portion of the deck. The left fingers are under the deck, the finger tips in position to slide the bottom card of the deck to the right so that the bottom card travels under the beveled stock until the leading top corner of the bottom card contacts the tip of the right fourth finger.

As the corner of the card hits the tip of the right fourth finger, the left fingers push the bottom of the card to the right so that it swings right placing it under the right hand in full palm position. The card is held in palm position between the diagonal corners, one corner pressed by the right fourth finger, the opposite diagonal corner pressing into the fleshy part of the hand at the base of the thumb. As soon as the card has traveled under the right hand, the left fingers pull back, taking the beveled edge of the deck with it, which squares up the deck in the left hand, the left hand moving slightly left to create some space between the left and right hands.

The left hand remains stationary as the right hand moves over the face card of the deck in the left hand. Release the palmed card onto the deck, and then pull back towards the body, revealing the face card of the deck has changed. Because of the diagonal corner grip on the palmed card, it can be easily released which a minimum of hand motion, when the right hand is in position over the face up deck. In addition, this move can be used to steal the top card of the deck in the action of apparently just turning over the deck and, for instance, placing it to one side or giving to a spectator to shuffle.
