Rumores de la Caleta from Recuerdos de Viage (1887); This very flamenco inspired piece is usually played in E on the guitar although the piano original is in A. This transcription remains in the original key. The first section is a solea and the middle section emulates a vocal melody accompanied by the guitar in the style of a malaguena. During the repeat of the solea, the following rasgueado figure could be utilized (as played by Pepe Romero): 3

Tango in D, from Espana; 6 Album Leaves Op. 165 No. 2 (1890): This extraordinarily evocative piece is perhaps Albeniz' most recognizeable piece.Originally in D, Tango has been transposed to C for ease of reading and playing. Capo 2 to return to the original key if desired. FRANCISCO TARREGA (1852-1909) Capricho Arabe (1892): Guitarist, composer, and teacher Francisco Tarrega is considered the father of modern classical guitar playing. Capricho Arabe has become a standard in the classical guitar repertioire and is supremely Spanish in character. The original guitar version is in D minor with a dropped D tuning. This version, in A minor, stays very close to the original. There are five distinct sections to this piece: Intro, A minor, C major, and A major and a return to A minor. Less advanced students or guitarists looking for a shorter version may consider using just the intro ("A") and final A minor ("E") sections.
SPANISH FOLK SONG - MIGUEL LLOBET (1878-1937) El Testemant D'Amelia: Catalan guitarist Miguel Llobet was a student of Tarrega and went on to have his substantial career as a performer and composer. El Testament D'amelia is one of many Catalan folk songs he has arranged. This A minor version is based on Miguel Llobett's version in D minor. I have included an alternative to the section played with artificial harmonics to help make this arrangement more accessible to less advanced students. You may wish to play both.
