About the Origami Collection The Origami Collection was born in 1980 from ideals fostered by the founding members of OrigamiUSA. Michael Shall (1949-1995) launched this yearly anthology to share origami models from around the world. His mentor, Lillian Oppenheimer (1898-1992), provided the springboard for this effort, as many of the models were drawn from her collection and connections she cultivated. Alice Gray (1914-1994) also provided inspiration by streamlining the communication of origami ideas. All of the novice-level works in this collection are dedicated to Alice and her love of simple, elegant pieces. Throughout the years as our presentation has grown more polished, the goal of showcasing great origami has not diminished. The editors of the Origami Collection spend many hours curating, testing and editing origami designs to produce a book that will appeal to origami aficionados of all levels and interests. Variety is a key criterion; you will find works here by established origami artists as well as many hidden gems from up-and-coming stars. Most of the pieces are making their debut in these pages. We hope you are as excited about discovering these diagrams as we are in presenting them.

If you started with relatively large and fine paper, e.g. 30cm*30cm, more creases on the tree are reccommended.
If you started with relatively small and thick paper, e.g. 15cm*15cm, less creases on the tree are reccommended.
Step 16 Shape the tree and the star. Notes: 1. The creases on the tree are unevenly but symmetrically spaced according to the actual situation and one's preferences. 2. It is recommended that one uses wet folding to keep it in place.

4-D Dog Illusion
Leonardo Pulido Martinez
High Intermediate
©2016 - Colombia
MODO DE USO:
This 4-D Dog is based on the Hollow Face Illusion. Although the model is mostly concave, it will appear convex under certain condiƟons. To see the illusion, you need to close one eye and look at the far corner of the model. When you move your head from side to side and up and down (slowly), the model will start to appear more convex. This will be even more unusual when you try to touch the diīerent parts of the dog’s head. You can also take a picture of the model and at certain angles, it will appear convex. The illusion works because of the way we process 3-D images. Our eyes piece together 2-D images, and our mind will combine what we see with our memory of what the object should look like. When we only use one eye to view an object, our mind will rely more on prior informaƟon to complete the image, and this is where the decepƟon occurs. The success of this illusion will vary from person to person. The 4-D Dog Illusion is dedicated to Halle.

©2017 - California Start with letter-size paper (8½ x 11 inches). Make sure to keep the model oriented as shown in steps 1-7 so that the V-shaped creases appear in the right locations in step 9.
2. Fold the left edge to the right.
3. Fold and unfold in both directions.
1. Fold the top edge to the bottom.
4. Fold the lower left corner to a line about 1/4 inch from the crease.
7. Repeat steps 4-5, but reversing the creases (valley to mountain, mountain to valley).
5. Fold the corner to down to touch the edge.
6. Unfold steps 4-5.
8. Unfold the model completely.
9. Fold the top and bottom edges to about 1/8 inch from the center crease, leaving a gap of 1/4 inch in the center.

10. Turn the model over.
11. Fold the bottom edge up about 1/2 inch.
13. Fold and unfold the left and right edges to the center. Then turn the model over.
14. Fold and unfold the upper left and right corners down at 45 degrees to meet the creases.
16. Valley-fold and unfold the center while popping the snout into 3-D with mountain and valley creases. Fold the left and right flaps behind a little, and valley-fold the center where indicated.
12. Fold the lower left and right corners up at 45 degrees to meet the creases.
15. To make the ears, roll the upper left and right edges down to the creases you made in step 14.
The Pig is complete. Add eyes and nostrils, and then pull and push the sides apart and together like an accordion to make him talk.
