Enjoyment • most important personal gain; positive early experiences often lead to a lifetime of reading enjoyment

Understanding and Empathy • gain and appreciate universality of human needs; all humans are alike to some degree; and develop social justice

Academic Value • the sheer enjoyment of reading, instils a sense of love for literature. • Children’s literatureengages the child, and creates a pattern, a ritual whereby children continue to read, and therebylearn and grow from all its other benefits.
