General Information Introduction

The purpose of this troubleshooting guide is to provide the Schindler employee with an appropriate tool to make troubleshooting work easier. Only properly trained and authorized Schindler employees are permitted to operate or handle any portion of the equipment. This also applies to settings, adjustments, inspections, maintenance, repair and modernization.

The given instructions are for escalator and moving walks. To keep this troubleshooting guide as slim as possible only the wording “step” and “step axle” are used. At a moving walk with short pallets remove three pallets instead of one step. At a moving walk with long pallets proceed as described for steps.

This troubleshooting guide does not claim to include all possibilities. The Schindler employee has to read, understand and follow the instructions in this troubleshooting guide in any case. Do not disclose this troubleshooting guide to third parties. Return the troubleshooting guide to the line manager when requested. For any questions and suggestions please contact your local branch office or national master trainer.

WARNING Open Step / Pallet Band

– Connect the maintenance operating panel

Unit with open step / pallet band could result in death or serious injury. Never leave a unit with open step / pallet band. If no immediate repair is possible, reassemble all disassembled parts in reverse order.

– Lift out the control cabinet and open it – Unit older than MIC F 2: Check every safety contact with a continuity meter and the wiring diagram – Unit with digital display: Check the display for the error message. Refer to chapter “7 Error Messages” and follow the correction instructions

 Notify the customer at arrival and at departure.  If the unit is equipped with handrail entry type "mouse trap" check all four entries are closed.  Check if the unit is equipped with a display which is visible from outside.

– Only at error message 28 or 36, refer to the chapter “Step Level Switch” – Check if the error related switch is mechanically locked

 If the display is toggling showing [d0] and an error message: – Read the error message and refer to the chapter “7 Error Messages” – Check the mentioned area for trapped objects and correct switch / sensor setting.

– Confirm the error.  Reassemble all disassembled parts in reverse order.  Restart the unit by using the key switch.

 If no display is present or the display do not show [d0]: – Set up protective barriers – Activate EoS – Unit older than MIC F 2: Remove the floor cover at the drive station – Unit with MIC F 2/3/4/5: Remove the floor covers at the tension station Activities Copyright © 2014 INVENTIO AG

The main switch is turned on Both inspection switches are set to Normal Both inspection dummy plugs are connected and secured The fuses are OK The safety circuit is closed The relays and contactors are picked up.

If there is a failure of a step band light barrier, emergency operation can be started: – – – – – –

Switch off the main switch Disconnect the defective light barrier / proximity switch (terminal 115 or 116) Insert a jumper between terminals 115 or 116 Switch on the main switch Set DIL switch S10 to OFF position The defective light barrier must be renewed as quickly as possible, and the jumper removed.
