STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Many students do not know the benefits of the track they’re going to choose because all they know is what they want to be in the future. Lack of knowledge in knowing the benefits of each strand may affect the students to choose what they want to be. This research aims to guide the students identify their interests and goals and to help the undecided students see the importance of baking. This topic is for the incoming students of Home Economics Strand to know the benefits of Baking and other major subject that is related in the Strand.

"Guide Question" What are the different benefits of baking to H.E. students of La Consolacion College Caloocan?

Specific Questions: 1. Does baking help you improve your skills? In what way? 2. Do you think baking has any advantages of being an H.E. student 3. How does baking affect you? Does someone encourage you to have an interest in baking? 4. Do you think you can apply what you learn about baking in the future ? What particular food/dishes would you like most to bake?

Proposed Questions: 1. How often do you bake at home? 2. Do you want to become a baker someday? 3. Do you do baking as a hobby or a passion? 4. What are the different benefits of baking? 5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of baking?

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction:

In the middle ages or medieval era baking first originated, but only few were able to enjoy it because the only one can afford a wood-burning stove were able to bake before. Then centuries came then baking became more popular all around the world. Now, the aim of baking is to prepare students in emphasizing their skills and creativity to create breads or pastries. Now the goal of baking is to prolong the lifespan of the food specifically bread, it can also enhance your skills on creating varieties of bread and pastries that can get you a job opportunity on different countries after graduating. Here in the Philippines baking helps people here because it's like the most popular job here that was brought to us by the Spaniards on the 17th century. Baking is exceptionally important in cultures that rely on wheat as their primary food. Baking also help us Senior high students because it can prepare us for our college years.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES The researcher made use of different reading material related to the benefits of baking. These reading materials such as books, magazines, research journal and web articles are essential in enhancing the skills of the H.E. students. These will be also serving as a guide to achieve the objectives and make improvements as possible. The information gathered by the researchers focuses on the benefits of baking to H.E. students here in La Consolacion College-Caloocan and its advantages to H.E Students. Researchers also aims to enhance their skills on their performance on their academics.

Related Literature: Baking is a method of cooking food that uses prolonged dry heat, normally in an oven, but also in hot ashes, or on hot stones. Baking uses leavening agents such as baking soda, baking powder, and yeast. We all know baking have many advantages that we can use in our daily lives and it is one of the oldest cooking method that still exists until now.

BENEFITS OF BAKING TO H.E. STUDENTS HERE IN LA CONSOLACION COLLEGE CALOOCAN S.Y. 2016-17 Dominic Rubio Ryan Baldoza Eugene Libao

Research Methodology The type of research that we used was a Qualitative Research because we aim to gather an in-depth understanding about the benefits of baking to H.E. students. The topic about benefits of baking is phenomenological

because

the

researcher

needs

an

in-depth

understanding, observation and reasons that will be answered by the respondents. And the sampling method that we'll use is random sampling to obtain a more precise result that could be used to present the whole.

Research Locale Our research took place on Caloocan City, specifically on La Consolacion College Caloocan. We chose this school because there are H.E. students here and it's the nearest.

Findings This chapter presents the summary or the research work undertaken made as an outgrowth of this study. 1) How often does the respondents bake at home? As the result of question number 1, respondents number one(1) to nine(9) don't usually bake at home, because they don't have the right tools and equipment, specifically an oven. While respondents number ten (10) who does have an oven, bakes at home at least once a month. 2) Does the respondents want to become a baker someday? Why? We found out that respondents number one(1) and two (2) doesn't want to be a baker, because they have other professions or dreams that they wanted to fulfil. While respondents number three(3) to nine(9) want to become a baker someday. Some respondents answered yes because it was their childhood dream, some found their passion on baking, while the others answered yes because they can see the benefits that they can get from baking. And respondent number ten(10) is undecided yet. 3) Does the respondents take baking as a hobby or passion? Respondent number one(1), three(3) and seven(7) takes baking as a passion. Respondents number two(2), five(5), nine(9) and ten(10) takes baking as a hobby. While respondents four(4), six(6) and eight(8) takes baking as a hobby and passion.

4) Does baking make the respondents forget their problems? In what way? Sometimes baking makes respondent number two(2), eight(8) and ten(10) forget their problems because sometimes baking takes their focus and their time but some problems are really hard to forget. Baking makes respondent number three(3), four(4), five(5), six(6) and seven(7) forget their problems because they said that they enjoy baking and it helps them to enhance their skill at the same time they're learning while the other one answered baking was awesome so that he is able to forget his problems. While respondent number one(1) and nine(9) answered no because they said that some problems are hard to forget and it increases the problem. 5) What are the advantages and disadvantages of baking? As the summary of their answers. The respondents said that as an advantage of baking, first baking is enjoyable and there are lots of benefits that you can get like you can use it in the future as a business or a job with a high salary or income. And as a disadvantage of baking, ingredients are usually expensive and you need to produce or have lots of tools and equipments in order to bake some products that you desire.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION After summarizing the findings, it can be concluded that baking offers a lot of benefits especially to those who are into it. Aside from being a hobby and a passion, it can be used as a steady source of income. The fulfillment it gives makes one forget his problems easily and enhance his skills.

1. Does baking help you improve your skills? In what way?

Yes. Because baking makes one relaxed no matter how big the problem is, he is determined and focused on it. Question number 4 which shows that fifty percent of the respondents find baking as a way to lighten every burden and to improve his ability may be used as a reference.

2. Do you think baking has any advantages of being an H.E. student? As answered by the respondents in questions number four and five, baking is beneficial. First, it’s therapeutical that problems don’t seem to bother them when doing it. Also, as an interest, one may develop his skills which can be a lucrative business or job in the future.

3. How does baking affect you? Does someone encourage you to have an interest in baking?

This is laterally answered in question number four wherein half of the respondents find that baking gives them enjoyment which makes them forget their problems and enhance their skills.

4. Do you think you can apply what you learn about baking in the future ?

Yes. In relation with questions number 3, 4 and 5, as a hobby and a passion, baking helps a person emotionally that problems seem light when doing it. It’s nice to think that engaging in it, one may not only improve his ability but also discover and use some things that he wasn’t aware of before. If improvement and interest is consistent, then good fortune will be waiting years from now.

What particular food/dishes would you like most to bake?

The researchers would like to focus on pastries since these are common and easy to bake.
