Introduction: Thank you very much for purchasing Mental Assassin! Mental Assassin is a mind reading effect that fits inside your wallet that can be performed anytime, anywhere. In Summary, this is how the routine looks like: 1. Mentalist hands a card containing different words. 2. Spectator choose 1 word. 3. Spectator performs visualization test. 4. Mentalist is able to divine the chosen word.   

Props: 

2-sided card containing the action words grouped into 4 columns. Copy of the card is found in the last page of this book which can be custom printed into a credit sized card that can fit in your wallet.

Presentation: The presentation mentioned here is just a sample and does not needs to be memorized. Once you get the principle of the method, I would encourage you to create your own patter. 1.

The Mentalist explains that there was a research organization in the 1930s called Institute of Psychical Research who performed experiments on humans regarding paranormal and telepathy. They found out that everyone of is capable of sending mental thoughts to one another. And with enough training and exercise, it is possible to develop this skill. You were able to get a copy of one of the test cards and you tell the Spectator that you want to try the experiment with you. 2. The Mentalist hands out the card to the Spectator. The Mentalist briefly explains the content of the card. That the card is two sided and is composed of different action words arranged into columns. 3. The Mentalist explains that there are 3 phases of the exercise. That the first exercise is a guided visualization test. 4. The Mentalist asked the Spectator to look at the “Phase 1” cards. Look up the words and select a single word regardless of which side. 5. The Mentalist further explains that he will mention each column and that the Spectator will look at the group words in that mentioned column and every time the Spectator sees the word he/she will say the word “Proceed” so that the Mentalist can give the Spectator further instructions. If the column does not contain the chosen word, he/she will say the word “Next” so that the Mentalist can proceed to the next column. 6. Every time the Spectator say the word “Proceed” choose one of the statement in the Visualization Exercise section of this book for the patter. 7. The Mentalist proceed to the rest of the column until to the last column of “Phase 1” of the card. 8. The Mentalist tells the Spectator that they will now proceed with phase 2 of the exercise and that this time, the Spectator has the option to either be guided again by the Mentalist or do the whole exercise by him/her self. The Mentalist explains that phase 2 will be the same method done in phase 1. 9. In case the Spectator decide to do the whole exercise by him/her self, the Mentalist tell the Spectator to let him know when he/she is finished. In case the Spectator decides to still be guided, you chose from one of the statement in the Visualization Exercise section of this book for the patter. 10. The Mentalist explains that during the visualization exercise, you were able to get a glimpse of the thought of word but still hazy maybe because it is getting mixed up with other thoughts.

11. The Mentalist further instructs the Spectator that for the last exercise visualize him/her self standing in front of a big blackboard with a piece of chalk in his/her hand. The Mentalist tells the Spectator you imagine him/her self writing the words in the blackboard. 12. The Mentalist confirms the Spectator on the last exercise and ask the Spectator to repeat it. There are total of 15 different action words in the cards that are grouped into 8 words per column. The method uses binary system to determine the chosen word. Each column per side represents 1-2-4-8 respectively. The card design has included this in the upper right part of the card. To illustrate:

Only Phase 1 of the card is essential to determine the chosen word. The Phase 2 of the card is just decoy. Therefore, you only take note of the response of the spectator during the first phase of the routine. Every time the Spectator acknowledges their chosen word on each column, you add the number the column represents until the end of the 4th column. The sum of phase 1 represents the following action words: Sum

Memorization Technique: I use the memorization technique used in the book of Kevin Tredau entitled “MegaMemory”. Believe me when I tell you that the Mega Memory system is very effective in creating long term memory. No need to worry about forgetting this list as when you already understand the system. The good this is that the system can be though, understood, and apply in a very short time (an hour or less). This technique was originally devised in ancient Rome and Greece and was called, “the method of loci.” Loci is the plural of the Latin word “locus” which means “location” or “place.” Practitioners of this method would begin by taking note of some specific items in a familiar place (objects in their home, for example). Then they would associate these familiar items with the list of things they wanted to memorize. Then there is the process of linking the unfamiliar with the familiar which is a tremendous aid in recall memory. Fact #1. The mind thinks in picture. When you ask someone to think of a pink elephant, your brain does not think of the letters, it sees the pink elephant. Fact #2. The mind retains memory longer when it is unusual, different, exaggerated, and has emotional impact.

Can you list all the items in order? How about reciting the list reverse order? Do you remember which items on the list per number? How did you try to memorize the items? Repetition? Well, there is another way to memorize things.

Step One: Create your memory list The list provided above can easily be memorized using word association. The technique is to link the number with the item on each number. This will be your permanent list and will be used for future memorization. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11.

Tree — a tree trunk is straight up and down like the number 1. Light Switch — there are 2 settings on a light switch, on & off. Stool — a stool has 3 legs. Car — a car has 4 wheels. Glove — 5 finger holes. Gun — a 6-shooter. Dice — 7 is a lucky number in the dice game Craps. “7 come 11.” Skate — skate a figure 8. Cat — a cat has 9 lives. Bowling ball — it is used to knock down 10 pins. Goal post — a football goal post looks like the number 11.

Eggs — eggs come in a carton of 12. Witch — think “unlucky 13.” Or Friday the 13th. Ring — think “14 carat gold.” Paycheck — most of us get a paycheck on the 15th of the month. Candy — think “Sweet 16.” If you’d like, imagine your favorite candy. Magazine — think of the teen magazine named, “Seventeen.” Voting booth — you earn the right to vote when you turn 18. Golf club — golfers use the term “the 19th hole” to refer to the club house after playing a round. Cigarettes — not terribly PC these days, but cigarettes come in a pack of 20.

Now that you are able to associate each item on each number. I am sure that you can recite them in any order without any problem.

Step Two: Pegging Here’s where it starts to get fun! Pegging in this system refers to the linking of familiar to the unfamiliar in a different way. Unlike the logical association done in the first step, link the word in the most unusual way. The more outrageous or emotionally impacting the peg, the more it will retain to your memory. Once you learn how the System works, it can be used in any situation where you need to remember list of words besides the effect on this book. Applying this System to our list of action words we only need 15 from the list. Below are the sample peg I used to remember the list. You can always create your own. Remember that the more creative you become the more longer it retains in to your memory.

I imagine myself and a friend jumping in front of thousands eggs and having fun while doing it. I imagine myself doing a swimming race with a long nose pointed witch with big mole wearing black dress. I Imagine myself getting mad because I got declined from my wedding proposal and end up wearing engagement ring and continuously punching the wall until my hands bleed. I imagine myself getting excited on my first paycheck and wore the giant paycheck as a cape and flew up in the sky.

Visualization Exercise: Every time the spectator says "Proceed", you can choose from the list of visualization exercise mentioned below: Tell the spectator to briefly close their and imagine: a. Yourself doing the thought of action word in front of a mirror. b. Yourself and a friend, relative, or enemy doing the thought of action word. c. Yourself inside the cinema and seeing the thought of word in the big screen. d. Someone whispering to your ear the thought of word.

Bonus Reveal Idea: This is very good reveal presentation is you want to add more flavor. This is only applicable if you are able to determine that the chosen word of the spectator is the word “Eat”. The presentation is inspired from "Exchange" by Wayne Dobson. After the 2 phases of the routine I tell the Spectator that I am seeing two words in his/her mind and have decided to write it down. Using business card or paper in a clipboard, you first write the word "EAT" and then write the word "SEX". You make sure that the word "SEX" is the one facing the Audience and then proceed with the interrogation.

Interrogation Questions: a. b. c. d. e. f.

Is there a letter “E” in your chosen word? Do you do this at home? How many times do you do this in a day? When did you last do it and where? Is it something we can do together if I pay of course? Which part of the body you use it with?

After these questions, you hand out the business card paper with the word “EAT” to the Spectator with the false impression from the audience that you hand out the word “SEX”.

About the Card: 1.

On the lower left side of the corner there is a number written (86). You can ask Spectator to think of a 2-digi even number, different from one another and is higher than 50. This is a hit or miss but there is big possibility that the thought of number is 86. If it misses you just proceed as usual. It does not do any harm and is not really part of the routine.

The upper right side of the card is a number cheat representing each column the equivalent number of each column.
