ABSTRACT •The COVID -19 pandemic hit the global economy. •One of the major sectors impacted by this is fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). •FMCG sector is an important contributor to the Indian economy. •Because of Covid-19 and announcement of lockdown lead to increasing demands for FMCG products massively. •This paper focuses on how Covid-19 has impacted the FMCG industry and consumption of FMCG products by consumers in Mumbai. 2

INTRODUCTION •The  lockdown that has increased demand and consumption of FMCG products massively. •Retailers’ supply-chain difficulties have largely arisen. •Sales of non discretionary products have tailed off. •To increase production the key problem is a shortage in the workforce. •MOM and POP stores are winning the lockdown battle. •Managing internal and external communication is the key. •Work from home will be the new culture. 3

METHODOLOGY •Participants - Participants who participated in our study are the people of Mumbai. The percentage of females in our survey were 68% whereas men were 32%. We surveyed a total of 259 people. •Research Design - We have used chi-square testing along with the questionnaire method for our primary research. H0: The no. of people expenditure increased is independent of the storing necessities during the lockdown. H1: The no. of people expenditure increased is dependent on the storing necessities during the lockdown. •Measures - The collection of primary data was carried out with the help of a questionnaire through the survey method. The secondary data collection is from the internet, magazines, and reference books. 4

RESULT AND DISCUSSION •We took a survey of 259 people who reside in Mumbai to know about what kind of impact does Covid-19 has on the FMCG products in Mumbai.

•It was observed that with the announcement of lockdown in Mumbai people started to buy goods in bulk due to the fear of necessary goods running out of stock.

•It was also observed that during lockdown people in Mumbai spent more on the FMCG products than usual.

•Majority of the Mumbaikars were of the opinion that the current production of the FMCG products is not enough to sustain the gigantic population of India. 5

CONCLUSION We concluded that during the lockdown the FMCG sector as well as the consumers have faced a lot of challenges. Hence a there can be a few changes that can be implemented which are as follows:•The FMCG suppliers should reduce product variety at this point of time and focus on the vital products that are needed by every household. •The FMCG product manufacturers should revise their plans and allocate manpower to the highly demanded products. •The FMCG manufacturers should also anticipate the future increase in demand of certain products and hence should buy raw materials accordingly . •From the consumer point of view it is necessary that the consumers buy products in a 6 reasonable manner
