PURPOSE OF TESTS The purpose of these test, is to verify the correct operation of protective and control system together, also verify current and voltage circuits, having in consideration secondary circuits and the polarity of current and voltage transformers. Also, with this test will verify the stability of the protection differential of generator, the protection differential of transformer. Current document summarize basic considerations for protection primary tests of generator with running machine.

TOOLS – MEASUREMENT AND TEST EQUIPMENT Voltmeters (range from 0 a 120 Volts). Ammeters (range from 0 a 0.1 A and 0 a 10 A) Screwdrivers Portable radios between 500KV Switchyard, unit control hall and gsu transformer hall.

GENERAL RECOMENDATIONS Before attempting any maneuver related to energizing, switchyard area must be checked for the presence of any provisional ground, equipment or material used during erection works, such like ladders, ropes tools, etc. All responsible person and coordinators, must informed of the exact time when energizing manoeuvres will be initiated. When measuring voltage at terminals connections, special care with the handling of bridges & groundings has to be taken. Do not leave loose connections or open terminals. Special care has to be taken when working at terminals with current, with the use of links or short circuit bridges. For no reason should leave CT’s in open circuit; then, should verify continuosly to avoid loose connections or open terminals.

Step-up Transformer disconnected. GS620, GS610, AND =B19Q10 are in open position. GS210 in closed position. GS100 in closed position with trip 1 and trip 2 inhibited.

See drawing above. Check that the short circuit can withstand the generator nominal current 603A, 500 kV side. GSU Transformer disconnected from the 500kV Switchyard. (=B19+Q10 are open position). Excitation system connected to temporarily auxiliary feed. Disconnecting E/S GS620, GS610 are in open position. Generator Disconnecting GS210 are in closed position. GCB GS100 in remote and available for operation.
8.3. CHECKING OF CURRENT CIRCUITS (10%In and 20%In) Unit to nominal speed. Close the excitation breaker with zero voltage. Close the generator circuit breaker GS100. Increase slowly the current up to 10 % of the nominal (LV: 1674A, HV: 60.3A). Check stability of the transformer differential protection
