FSP is a personal load bearing and protection concept which enables the user with the ability to adapt, through scalability and modularity. We developed the FSP by analyzing the tactical and operational requirements that armed forces and law enforcement agencies face. All the components of FSP, THOR load bearing, GARM combat clothing, SKJOLD body armor and OPS-CORE helmet systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with each other. As a result, FSP enables the user to remain protected whilst adapting capacity, level of protection and appearance depending on the threat level and environmental conditions.

GARM combat clothing GARM is NFM’s combat clothing system, which incorporates a complete line of combat garments – from underwear to outerwear. All design aspects of the system have been carefully implemented from end user feedback. The aim is always to reduce weight but also improve durability, protection and compressibility of every item. GARM has also inspired NFM’s fire retardancy (FR) standards, an industry first, on the best ways of wearing fire retardant layers.

SKJOLD body armor protection SKJOLD offers multiple body armor components where optimal protection level and protection area can be adapted, according to different threats and environments. Our SKJOLD solutions allow the user to remain comfortable, with the ability to adapt the level of protection from stand alone, to ICW and additional supplementary protection. We constantly strive to push the boundaries of what is possible through innovative research and carefully considered materials. Reliability ensures that every SKJOLD system saves lives, every time.

2

Full Spectrum Protection

THOR load bearing solutions The THOR load bearing equipment range offers ultimate functionality and mobility, supported by a versatile, modular solution that can be adjusted to the mission at hand. All materials have been carefully selected to optimise durability, comfort and fire retardancy. We have designed our load bearing system so that it integrates with the GARM clothing system, ensuring the end-user remains effective over long periods of time in various environments.

OPS-CORE helmets & accessories OPS-CORE’s comprehensive suite of scalable head protection and situational awareness products provide the warfighter with true system performance. Ergonomically designed to ensure maximum comfort, the modular components integrate seamlessly, allowing the user to focus on their mission. OPS-CORE helmets fit all hooded garments from the GARM range and also supplement the ballistic protection afforded by SKJOLD.

3

With four eyes and a chest drenched with blood, in Norse mythology GARM is the trustworthy watchdog at Hel’s gate who will go to extremes to protect his master’s assets

Like its Viking namesake, GARM offers the user increased confidence, enhancing mobility and lethality, in the toughest conditions. GARM is NFM’s combat clothing brand, which incorporates a complete line of combat garments – from underwear to outer wear. The end-users of GARM are professionals who totally rely on, and need to have, complete confidence in the functionality and quality of the equipment they use. GARM fullfils the specifications set by our customers, whilst simultaneously driving innovation in the field of combat clothing.

4

The Nature of GARM

Complete range of combat clothing Designed to fulfill Military and Law Enforcement requirements High level of fire retardancy Superior functionality and comfort Compatible with body armor Adaptable system configuration

5

System Advantages

The nature of modern warfare is where GARM takes its inspiration from

This drives our capability to be first to market with the most innovative technologies available. GARM is a complete garment layering system developed for Military and Law Enforcement units. It is the result of close co-operation and development with professional combat units and leading edge raw materials suppliers. We base our design process on the end-user’s experience and feedback during extensive missions in various environments.

6

Versality and Performance

Investing in one clothing system allows the user the flexibility to configure what they are wearing without compromising on functionality or protection. All layers of the GARM system are designed to compliment eachother. Pockets are replicated in the exact same position, allowing the user to locate equipment in a fast, easy way, regardless of which garment he is wearing. GARM’s smart seams are designed and located in a way that avoids irritation or friction on the skin, when wearing layered clothing. Additionally, all our fastening systems are field tested and compatible with all types of gloves, even when operating in extreme environments. GARM is designed to be compatible with additional equipment, such as load bearing vests, body armor, Ops-Core helmets and backpacks. Most notably, we have designed our own standards, an industry first, on the most effective ways of wearing fire retardant layers. 7

The FR tests showed us that the chances of survivability are vastly improved when wearing FR clothing

FR Testing In co-operation with our selected scientific testing institute (EMPA Switzerland), we have tested a variety of configurations of FR and non-FR clothing. EN 14 116 (EN 533) tests the fabric of protective clothing against heat and flames. Measurement of flame spread on materials. EN 11 612 (EN 531) tests the fabric of protective clothing against heat and flames. Measurement of flame spread on materials. This includes extra testing for radiant and convective heat transfer. ISO 13 506 instrumented manikin test for complete garments.

During these tests we exposed fully dressed manikins to open flames for 4 seconds at a time. Through extensive research we discovered that the average time for an individual to escape an intense fire either in a building or vehicle was 4 seconds. Clothing designed to protect an individual for longer than this will impede on the soldier's mobility. The nature of a soldier's role requires them to maintain a high level of mobility which should not be compromised by over-protection. The results showed us that the chances of survivability are vastly improved with even just one layer of FR clothing. The manikins dressed in nonFR showed devastating results, with low chances of survival.

GARM FR In this FR test, manikins were dressed in the lightest combat uniform: combat shirt, utility pants, short underwear, gloves, socks, boots, helmet, goggles, body armor vest with pouches (see picture above). For detailed information about the test please contact our sales representatives. 8

FR Layering Capabilities

LONG BASE LAYER SHORT BASE LAYER

Most* GARM products are FR (Flame Retardant). Flame retardants are materials that inhibit or resist the spread of fire. NFM FR products will not melt or drip, protecting the user from serious burns and injuries caused by fire and explosions. The more layers of FR garments you wear, the greater the protection. (* We also offer a NonFR collection for those who are not in direct risk, or want a more affordable solution.) The combat layer is essential during direct exposure to fire, as it prevents the spread of the fire and melt/drip of a fabric and accessories. The base layer fabrics restrains the heat transfer, preventing melting to the skin. NFM-developed materials are inherently FR, giving stable protection even after countless wash cycles.

Non-FR Garments With FR Accessories Some of the outermost layers like insulation and rain protection are not FR, because these garments burn quickly and do not cause major burns or melting if the base and combat layers are FR. It is essential that all accessories such as threads, zippers and velcro patches are FR. The presence of non-FR items can result in substantial spread of fire and melting/dripping. In order to fully protect the end-user from fire-related injuries, every item must be FR. 9

Lighter and More Durable

We are constantly striving to reduce the weight a soldier carries without having to compromise on durability. At the core of this are the materials that we choose. Making material lighter yet stronger and more durable is not an easy task. Through our partner material development programs we have made significant gains in these results.

The modern battlefields’ “electronic eyes” are constantly creating new requirements for signature management. IR sensors are common in all conflict areas. Every object around us, either natural or manmade, gives off a light reflection signature. Infra red light reflection is not visible to the naked eye. Devices have been engineered which allow us to see objects further into the Near-Infrared (NIR) spectrum, enabling those with this technology to maintain the initiative on the battlefield.

GARM clothing aids the individual's ability to remain undetected in order to succeed with the mission. Managing this signature has become increasingly important to avoid detection. The goal here is not to totally eradicate any signature, but to reduce it to a certain level where it helps the individual blend in with the NIR signature given by the natural surroundings. GARM NIRcompliant uniforms use special materials that allow soldiers to appear at the same radiation level as the surrounding terrain, thus making them more difficult to detect.

11

Comfort Our entire design philosophy is based around essential feedback we recieve from end users using our clothing in conflict areas around the world. We constantly strive to improve the ergonomic design, comfort and freedom of movement. GARM snugly fits the body design of the individual, so much so, that they almost forget it is there! We understand that individuals in conflict areas already carry too much weight so our aim is to reduce any unnecessry materials, accessories or seams. We are constantly developing lighter and softer materials whilst increasing the levels of durability and protection. It is our goal to constantly increase the soldiers level of confidence regardless of individual size, shape or weight.

Logistic Advantages One supplier, one delivery, one bill

From a logistics perspective, GARM offers the client a unique solution. We have developed our own sizing tables from research across different geographic locations. Our thinking behind the system is that each individual should be able to be fitted in one common size through all the garments. Our colors and patterns are compatible across all garments, regardless of which materials are being used. All FR layers together conform to give the user the required protection. We have also engineered GARM to ensure that the life cycle of each garment is similar. From a logistics perspective it is easier to replace the entire system once, rather than replacing individual garments from different suppliers.

13

The task of the base layer is to maintain a dry and comfortable micro-climate next to your skin. This layer will absorb moisture from the skin and then distribute it over the surface, where it will evaporate via other clothing layers. This layer will also protect against odor and sweat.
