LET’S CELEBRATE! ‘Om Swastiastu...’ Another year has passed and here we are at our 15th anniversary! It can be fun to reminisce about the years that have passed, like back to the time that Bali & Beyond was still in tabloid form, or how the island used to be when the magazine first started compared to how it is now. However, we’ve decided not to do too much reminiscing this year and instead we want to focus on celebrating the now. So check out a lighthearted piece we prepared titled ‘Fun Fifteen’ where we asked 15 people around the island 15 questions that are all related to the number 15! Our colorful Beyond Bali piece about the annual carnival in Jember is sure to get you in a festive mood. As for Rest & Relaxation, this time we decided to cover the W Resort & Spa Bali because they always have great parties. If you’re already familiar with their rooms then you’ll want to check out this article to see their villas – the design is completely different but of course still has that signature W touch. It’s a surprisingly peaceful area where you can rest your head after an eventful night out. And to change things up, we’ve decided to teach you a fun workout in Action & Attraction this month. Follow our contributor’s 10-step workout to burn off those extra calories from partying it up during the months ahead! CORAL ACTION Billabong’s “GO BLUE – SAVE THE CORAL REEF” campaign has succeeded in planting 577 coral reefs in Tanjung Kotal, West Bali. When I graduated from high school I moved to Surabaya and was surprised to see the buzz on social media about the JFC. I never imagined that JFC would grow to be such a major event. When one of my friends decided to join the carnival as one of the artists last year, I took the opportunity to go back to my hometown and see the 11th annual JFC. One of the first things I saw was 600 artists walking along the 4 km catwalk located right in the heart of the town, all dressed

Bali is non-malarial and prophylaxis is not required. Mosquito bites, cuts or abrasions easily become infected in the tropics. Treat them immediately. Drink only bottled or boiled water. Peel fruit before eating; avoid raw vegetables except at reputable restaurants. Ice in restaurants is safe. Protect yourself from the intense equatorial sun. Use high SPF sunblock and a hat. AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases are increasing in Indonesia. Local sex workers have multiple partners from around the world. They are not checked for sexually transmitted diseases.
